Every day it looks more like the Halo movie is going to happen, but it's moving in a direction the fans of the Halo video game series aren't happy with.

The most recent news on the film suggests that Stephen Spielberg would be producing the movie based on a screenplay written by Stuart Beattie. Stuart Beattie is responsible for the silver screen disaster interpretation of G.I. Joe, and Spielberg recently alienated his fans when he took the most recent Indiana Jones movie in an unusual direction.

As serious Halo fans we don't want a screenplay that will destroy the series, and we don't want a producer with a reputation of alienating fans in favor of undesirable plot twists.

We want Peter Jackson back on board as the executive producer, Neil Blomkamp as the director, and Alex Garland's screenplay to be used. Peter Jackson is heralded as one of the greatest film directors of all time. He's entirely responsible for the rags-to-riches success story of the Lord of the Rings films, noted as a few of the best movies ever made. Jackson hand-picked Neil Blomkamp to direct the Halo movie. At the time Blomkamp was a relatively unknown director, known only for his short films. After the Halo movie was put on hold Jackson had Blomkamp direct the recent critically acclaimed, blockbuster phenomenon known as District 9. See what we're missing out on?! Alex Garland's screenplay interpretation of the Halo movie has already been glorified as an amazing piece of work and was sold with a hefty price tag of $1 million. Garland is most noted for his screenplay written for the movie 28 Days Later which was nominated for several "Best Original Screenplay" awards.

Why try and fix what was never broken? We want the Halo movie back in production and we want Peter Jackson as the executive producer, Neil Blomkamp as the director, and Alex Garland's screenplay to be used. Spielberg and Beattie will almost certainly ruin what many gamers consider to be the holy grail of gaming franchises.
