This petition is in support of strengthening Rhode Island's Attorney General Sex Offender Community Notification Guidlines.

Currently, Rhode Island is one of four states that do not list the exact addresses of convicted sex offenders.

Rhode Island's Attorney General Patrick Lynch is opposed to strengthening Rhode Island's sex offender notification guidelines. It is time that we send a message that Rhode Island victims and families need to come first.

Attorney General candidate Bill Harsch has proposed sweeping reforms to strengthen Rhode Island's community notification guidelines, however Patrick Lynch has refused to support these common-sense measures. For full details on the Harsch plan, visit www.BillHarsch.com

If you are interested in supporting the Harsch plan to strengthen Rhode Island's Community Notification Guidelines, then please affirm the following letter to Patrick Lynch.

Dear Attorney General Lynch,

I am writing to urge you to strengthen Rhode Island's Attorney General Community Notification Guidelines.

In a state forty miles by thirty, Rhode Islanders need to be aware of threats in their immediate neighborhoods, as well as from Woonsocket to Westerly.

As the law currently stands, a Level III sex offender can reside across the street from an elementary school, playground, or childcare center, and parents would only be notified of an approximate address. As a parent and concerned citizen, I am deeply troubled by this inexplicable loophole, and I support this petition in order to bring pressure upon policy-makers to fix it.

I urge you to reconsider your opposition to protecting Rhode Island's families and support Bill Harsch's plan for strengthening Rhode Island's Sex Offender Community Notification Guidelines.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Citizen

I am stupified that RI does not have strict and enforceable laws protecting our children. I am a parent of three young girls. I want them as safe as possible! There are predators on our streets the public is not even aware of.

I support this petition & so should every other concerned citizen of this State. Unfortunately, I just lost a family member who I loved like my own child. We later found out the man who called in the 911 is on probation until 2025 for 2 counts of 1st & 2nd degree sexual assault during a buglary in committed in 1983. He has been arrested & charged 5 addtl times of B&E's; possession of fireare. His latest charge, obstructing a police officer, he did not show for pre-trial yesterday, 9/21/06. But this is normal for this Sex Offender in RI. The AG lets this guy out repeatedly. The Prov Detectives are no better. They have evidence to put this guy away, but they say the ATTORNEY GENERAL said NO. Detective Sgt Sweeney did not return my family's call until 2 weeks after his death. He said "I was to busy working two murder cases" .... If the ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE and PROVIDENCE POLICE DEPT do not think it is important to protect the citizens of the State of Rhode Island from Sex Offender's *** IT TIME FOR A CHANGE ** WE AS CITIZENS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BEG FOR JUSTICE ** And re-offender's should NOT be allowed to "WALK" from their crimes for IMFORMANTion. The next victim may be you or your loved one... PLEASE SUPPORT BILL HARSCH FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL

We need to protect our children. It's time for The Decent people to have control over The Law Breakers. And not the other way around.
