I don't think my little brothers age group (13) needs to be able to check out college girls who are on here to tlak to their friends. Also, allowing anyone with an e-mail is just opening up another way for people who are on petifile or other watched lists to see what is going on... people list room numbers and phone numbers on here which is bad enough but allowing anyone in the world to see it is a little much... leave it alone and let college students enjoy something without having to share with people who don't understand..... there is no way a 12 yr old would understand the problems of college people and face book is used to talk about them
Facebook.com has been the last holdout for Internet sensibility, especially concerning the lives of impulsive young people. Should it fall to the masses like myspace, I'll no longer be able to participate in what I feel has been a safe Internet community.
Facebook is selective by invitation only for a particular reason, and that's so it is able to keep its exclusitivy.
Opening the website to the general public will demean that aspect of the website, and make it no more worthwhile than any other.
facebook being primarily available to students is what sets it apart from myspace, friendster, etc. if facebook goes public it will just belnd in with all the others.
"The Facebook users feel like they have ownership in the company," says Stutzman. "When they realize that they're not the ones in control, it's a real slap in the face."
Yeah, ok, but without US they wouldn't be in business... so fuck you corporate assholes... DAMN THE MAN!
facebook should be kept within the college community. it is a networking website and it loses its validity and exclusivity of educated individuals. it is just going to turn into another "myspace"
I agree, facebook needs to not look at the money that would be made here and look at what made facebook unique in the first place. A site where people of colleges and businesses (and now high schoolers..) can get together and converse with colleagues. The way we have it now, is what sets it apart from any other website, like myspace (minus the html coding etc. obviously..). I joined this website because it was nothing like myspace as i'm sure is the same reason many others on here joined as well. PLEASE FACEBOOK! KEEP THE .EDU REQUIREMENT! (IT'S ALSO THE ONLY WAY TO VERIFY THAT PEOPLE ARE FROM WHERE THEY SAY THEY'RE FROM TOO!) YOU HAVE A DEDICATED FAN BASE HERE, PLEASE DON'T ABUSE OUR SUPPORT, BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET IT THIS TIME!
