It has become a major bone of contention lately that apparently the entire world is looking to remove Christ from Christmas. Those making that allegation seem to have neglected the Jews, Pagans, agnostics, atheists, and black culturalists who also like to celebrate the season with their families in the true spirit of the season. Petitions are circling with the intention of getting rid of Xmas or Happy Holidays in advertising and major commentators (and the lobbying organizations they work with) are claiming that there is a "War on Christmas" and, concurrently, a war on Christians. It appears to a rational observer from the outside, however, that this war is being waged by the Christians against all other believers or non-believers in the name of "religious freedom". These people seek to create a truly Christian state in the United States and allege that it was the intention of our Founding Fathers that this nation be such, even though many of those Founders (Jefferson and Franklin stand out among them) were less than practicing Christians and even created some of our basic documents for governance on the model of the writings of a famous philosopher whose first publication advocated religious tolerance, but only so long as the religious institutions allowed in society also advocate that same tolerance.

A signer of this petition believes that the holiday season lasting between late November and early January doesn't belong solely to Christians (who co-opted it from the Romans) and does not exist solely for the celebration of the birth of Christ (who was most likely born in the spring).

Christians have Christmas, Pagans have Yule/Winter Solstice, Jews have Channukah, some African-Americans celebrate Kwanzaa, and the list goes on. And we all have New Year's Eve. There is more than one holiday celebrated in the winter, thus "Happy Holidays" is appropriate. Jesus is not the reason for the season for everyone, get over it. The only reason Christmas is even in the winter was to override all the pagan festivals that celebrated the solstice. "Hapy Holidays" is not trying to exclude Jesus, it's trying to include everyone. I support this petition.

Everyone who supports this petition needs to check out ****christmas.com--(that censored word is the f-word.) It's an hysterical rant against the idiots who are crying about the war on christmas.

We need to be more aware that not only christians live in this country. It is abhorent that some feel christian beliefs should be shoved down everyone's throats. Long live Festivus!

What the morons who are crying about the "war" on Christmas don't realize is that the word "holiday" is an anglicized version of the words "holy day". But, I guess with no runaway brides or a scott petersen to talk about, they HAD to come up with SOMETHING to cry about. Idiots.

the church has stolen a holiday from pagan revelers and alowed everyone from hallmark to your local mall santa claus to exploit it for monetary reasons, while at the same time forcing its "moral values" of giving instead of taking upon the rest of the world. maybe this is why catholic priests like to give it to little altar boys in the ass but wont turn the other cheeck(s).

I support this petition because I believe the fundamentalists who are all up in arms about "Happy Holidays" need to take the stick out of their...well you know where. I'm a pagan, I don't get offended when people say Merry Christmas to me, so why should Christians get offended because people wish to use an all inclusive greeting at this time of year. Christmas isn't the only winter celebration so get of your high horse!!!

I think everyone who is offended by ANY holiday greeting, whether it be the jackass majority who are offended by Happy Holidays, or the oversensitive minorities who are offended by someone wishing them a happy holiday that they don't celebrate, just need to be locked in a small room together. Give them all weapons. Let them kill each other off. Then our holiday won't be ruined by us having to listen to them ***** about it. >:) exceptions include bizarre holiday greetings like, "May gypsies devour your entrails this season" 'cause I'm sure most people would be offended by that. Seriously though, I don't celebrate christmas. But I'm not offended when somebody says Merry Christmas. Nor am I offended when someone says Happy Hannukah or anything else that I don't celebrate. Y'know why it doesn't bug me? Because that's what THAT PERSON celebrates. And they have every frikkin' right to talk about it. I think these so-called 'Christians' need a good history lesson (Jesus was born in spring, and Christmas is just Yule with a story of Jesus tagged on) and a dose of reality (And by that, I mean a smack upside the head. I mean come on people. There are starving children somewhere in the world and you're arguing about holiday greetings.) In the meantime, the rest of us who are trying to celebrate our respective holidays, enjoy them, and I'll wish a happy Yule and general happy holidays to everyone. (And no, I'm not going to try to be politically correct and list them all. This rant is already far too long. And besides, people who try to be politically correct annoy me almost as much as the people I'm complaining about in this petition.:) ) And I think my rant has gone on long enough... so happy holidays to all, and to all a good night.

While I agree that Christmas is all about Christ, don't wish me a Merry Christmas because I'm walking down the friggin street. Street walkers don't have to be Christians last I checked. Christmas is for Christians, but the "holiday season" is for all of us.

I support this petition. I think that so-called "Christians" are just trying to manipulate the public in the name of "religious freedom".

Happy Yule! I've recently heard that lawyers have been assembled to bring some sort of litigation over not saying Merry Christmas. It's all a being blown out of proportion by the "Christians" for attention. A device to bring people who are not staunch conservatives into their line of thinking by making it look like the rest of society is out to disrupt the traditions they follow blindly and the mass consumerism that explodes during the winter months. Blessed be.

I'm so beyond sick and tired of people whining about being persecuted when it's terribly apparent that they were once the ones oppressing and now they have lost their hold on the populace so they have nothing better to do than pitch a stinking toddler like fit thrashing about on the floors of the city hall like spoiled brats... this is a friggin HOLY-DAY for crying out loud, there are WAY MORE than one of them too in this time of year and i'm sure if Jesus was alive today he'd be sobbing and running away from all the things that are done in his name...

I'm offended enough at the fact that Christmas has become so overblown that it has created an entire season out of non-Christian holidays that (at least in the case of Chanukah) were traditionally simple, private, and relatively unimportant celebrations. Although to say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays" would be to call a spade a spade, now that we have this horrible disease of consumeristic "holidays," we should at least be egalitarian and inclusive about it.
