We, the undersigned, hereby pledge our support for KSCR Radio, the student-run radio station at the University of Southern California. We believe that KSCR is a worthwhile campus-wide organization and an important contributor to university culture and student life. We support KSCR because of the following:

1- KSCR provides students with the opportunity to run their own radio station.
2- KSCR provides students with important opportunities including the opportunity to have their voices heard and to gain valuable hands on experience in the Music and Broadcast Industries.
3- KSCR supports independent artists and independent music.
4- KSCR provides valuable programming on the USC campus, including concerts and educational lectures and conferences.
5- KSCR has committed itself to supporting and fostering the growth of a student music community at USC.

We, the undersigned, believe in KSCR, believe in its continued growth, and believe that it has an important place at the University of Southern California.

I was the first voice ever heard on KSCR, back in the late 70s, when I was part of a group of students who helped put this station on the air, and I can tell you that those of us who were there at the beginning are proud to have been there and are proud that this station continues to provide a haven for students interested in radio and it's importance in communicating ideas--and now through the internet, those ideas go around the world. Some things never change---KSCR has always struggled for funding, needlessly. Those who have worked at KSCR from the beginning to the present are offering a unique voice that represents our University and our Southern California. Radio has not lost it's power, but increased it's power through am and fm, the worldwide web and satellite. KSCR is part of this and continues to be part of an exciting future or communication---just like is was when it started back in the 70s. Students should be given the support they need to take KSCR and their future in communication to the next level.KSCR provides them that opportunity and it's worthy of USC's support. KSCR is and has been, the voice of USC.

KSCR is the best! Funding should be expanded – not cut – for independent student-run media.

KSCR Radio has always been an avenue for developing the talent of USC's future voices of radio. It's not just some hobby but an internship in an industry where experience is key yet such work is hard to find. Having worked for KSCR from 1994-1999, including 1 year as Sports Director, I know that despite the lack of awareness by the student population, KSCR is a vital part of USC life and student development. A quick search of any record studio, radio station, news or sports outlet will show a number of KSCR alumni. I urge you to maintain full support of one of USC's unparalleled opportunities and outlets.

It's not even so much about the money, it's about the university's support for their very own student radio station. Trojan Vision gets an enormous amount of funding from Annenberg as well as alumni benefactors. The Daily Trojan makes an insane amount of money through advertising. However, both of these organizations have an enormous amount of oversight from USC administration. There's something to be said for the administration letting KSCR remain its own entity. However, I still support the cause. As a student media organization that can influence USC's image both inside and outside of Los Angeles, the administration should be aware of this and try to appease its students' wishes, not cause a rift.
