Save Bay to Breakers!
Published February 11, 2009
We the undersigned demand that the City of San Francisco and Bay to Breakers sponsorship remove the "zero alcohol tolerance policy", and the prohibition of "wheeled objects and floats" from the 2009 Bay to Breakers event on May 17, 2009.

These bans cut at the very heart of this San Francisco institution that was supposedly created to revive city morale after the San Francisco earthquake. In the middle of a global economic crisis, eliminating these aspects of the race decimates the ideals on which the race was originally organized. Not only will the city's morale suffer, but so will the participation and publicity for San Francisco, as well as every sponsor involved.

Demands:

The city of San Francisco and Bay to Breakers Sponsorship must remove a ban on floats, wheeled objects and alcohol at the 2009 Bay to Breakers event.

The city and sponsorship will provide adequate restroom accommodations for all participants.

Adequate law enforcement will be provided by the city, as well as barriers to control crowds in residential areas.

Adequate dumpsters will be provided along the race route and at the end of the route for trash disposal.
