We, the undersigned, respectfully ask His Excellency, the Most Rev. Joseph Martino, Bishop of Scranton, to bless and approve the continuation of Bishop O'Reilly Junior/Senior High School as a separate academic institution for the students of the West Side of the Wyoming Valley. We firmly believe in the power and value of Catholic education, and in particular, the education made possible by the dedicated faculty and staff of Bishop O'Reilly High School for over fifty years. The closure of the school would bring an end to a half century of tradition, academic excellence, and evangelization. Furthermore, such a decision would afford fewer students the opportunity to receive a Catholic education in our region. We pray that God bless our efforts and our school.

704 9 Mar 2007 - 8:11    jess : I believe that the schools should be saved. I don't go to BOR but its unfair to the faculty and students to close the school. Money is not the most important thing it's about giving kids an education which they deserve.

I dont go to O'reilly but my father did and he would be really disappointed on what they are doing.
693 2 Feb 2007 - 22:45    Loreen Auchus-McGill : I am a 1985 BOR grad and proud of it. I am now a mom of a first grader and soon to be Kindergardener. I live in Ohio and know it is a FIGHT evryday to keep OUR Catholic schools open. WE MUST FIGHT the battle for our kids, NOT the almighty dollar!
692 31 Jan 2007 - 3:27    enid Kreiner : As the parent of two Catholic school students and one Catholic school graduate and a Catholic school graduate myself, I am praying with all my heart that your school will stay open. Youth need a supportive values based environment. Don't uproot these kids from the place they love. Find a way to grow it and make it more viable, don't destroy it!

689 28 Jan 2007 - 0:59    Marcella Gawron : Our story needs to also come into light here,,,we rented a facility to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter...FSSP, Elmhurst, who also run a school...they left owing us a LARGE sum of money,,,I contacted Bishop Martino,,,=0, yet they continue...where is all of the monies used to "bail out all of the Priests with the sex abusiveness? children were abused by Priests from this Diocese and under the "control of this Diocese" and now the children are "abused" hurt again..!! outrageous...I could go on and on...please contact me...thank you...
688 27 Jan 2007 - 2:17    Kellie : I am a current student at Bishop O' Reilly High, and I absolutely love this school! It has been around for over 50 years. BOR has excellent teachers who have many years of experience in their feilds, and it would be a shame to just leave these skilled teachers unemployed due to the rather poor decision of Bishop Martino. I do have freinds at Hoban, but many of my friends at BOR may attend public school because of BOR's closing. Save Bishop O' Reilly Junior and Senior High School!
687 26 Jan 2007 - 10:19    trmadol : I always have terrible trouble with comment-related plugins that require me to put some line in the comment loop; I can never seem to find the right spot. Can anyone tell me where I should put the php line in my comments loop? I haven not modified anything much, and I would be very grateful. Thanks!
686 24 Jan 2007 - 10:30    Gloria : Bishop O'Reilly is a success story. Why would you close a Success story. Just look at the wondersful teachers who love to share their knowledge, care for each student and encourage positive study habits and produce a thriving school environment. Keep BOR open for another 54 years !!!!
685 24 Jan 2007 - 6:54    joe sabol :

682 23 Jan 2007 - 9:30    E. Lavelle : Find ways to generate funds needed to support the present schools. Otherwise Catholic education will die in Luzerne County.

679 22 Jan 2007 - 21:03    Michele Stefanides : The effect on the lives of my two sons who graduated from BOR cannot be underestimated. Their experiences at BOR have shaped their values, ethics, and choices for how to live their lives, both personally and professionally. Please continue to provide the same opportunity for youngsters still to come.

676 19 Jan 2007 - 3:37    R. Kalnoskas - '03 : I am very disapointed in the Diocese of Scranton for closing Bishop O'Reilly High School because of money issues. This is an irrational and somewhat immoral decision on their part.
675 14 Jan 2007 - 8:26    Christopher D. Caccia : If O'Reilly closes we will all see an end to the one on one teachings that the O'Reilly community has provided. Being a graduate I could not have asked for a better education. I beleive You will never find a more positive, caring or hard working collection of people that have produced such a high percentage of successful families in any public school.
