Hollywood and God
Contrary to what many have thought in the past, America is not antagonistic towards the things of God. According to a 2004 CNN poll, an incredible 87% wanted "under God" kept in the Pledge of Allegiance. Contrary to expectations, the blockbuster movie, 'The Passion of the Christ' proved that Americans had an interest in God by grossing hundreds of millions of dollars. Just after the film was released a Gallup Poll News Service* said, "Three in four Americans have seen or expect to see it."
The New York Times** said, "Hollywood producers and studio executives, witnessing overwhelming success of 'The Passion of the Christ,' are reconsidering whether they have been neglecting large segments of American audience eager for openly religious movies..."
A new book I have just written, called, What Hollywood Believes explores an area that has rarely been examined before--the faith of the famous. This hasn't been an easy task. It has taken a great deal of meticulous research. This is because actors in the past have been strongly discouraged from making public their thoughts about God. Up until the success of "The Passion of the Christ," Hollywood had been under the illusion that America wasn't interested in God. That's because the town lives in a world of its own. It doesn't resemble core America. Gallup polls reveal that over 90% of Americans believe in God, and that as many as 40% attend worship services regularly, but this hasn't been reflected in the movies or on television.***
A survey conducted among the 104 top television writers and executives found that, of the 104 who were asked if adultery was wrong only, 49% said it was. That means that 51% maintained that they believe that adultery is morally right. Meanwhile 85% of the rest of America believes adultery is wrong.

I am often asked how I maintain my Christian convictions while working in Hollywood and if could offer any advice for aspiring Christian actors.
My personal experience has taught me that although Hollywood can be a very exciting place to be, it is full of trappings that can take any person of substance and deceive, discourage, and destroy them and their families (without the wisdom and power of Christ). The Bible tells us that Satan is the father of lies and the god of this world, and when you make a break for Hollywood, you're entering his turf. If you're a Christian out to utilize a Hollywood career to influence the world for Christ, you can bet Satan will fire his darts and attempt to take you down.
I have worked with many child actors. While some have fared alright, many of them are not doing well today. I have seen Hollywood destroy the youth and innocence of children and twist the minds of its hopeful victims by flattering them, and promising them fame and fortune. But in the end they are used up, tossed aside, and then left to fend for themselves in drug rehabs, clinics for eating disorders, and depression therapy sessions. Many parents are blinded to this trap because they see "golden opportunities" for their children, thinking of college education funds and "once in a lifetime opportunities." But it is true that not everything that sparkles is gold. Think of the tabloid tragedy stories you've read about so many child stars.
Adults are not immune to the trappings of Hollywood. Thousands come here every year looking for their big break. They are willing to work their fingers to the bone, use their bodies to get ahead, and even sell their souls to get their foot in the door. How many celebrities have named the name of Christ, and yet are walking billboards for sin. I can think of several.

This show is intelligent, original, and just plain fun to watch. The cast is terrific. Tom Cavanaugh is terrific. Do all TV shows have to be dumb, violent, and repetitive?? Save Love Monkey!!
MoviesOnline recently caught up with Tom Cavanagh at the Los Angeles Press Day for his new film, Gray Matters, written and directed by Sue Kramer in her directorial feature debut. The popular star of NBC’s critically acclaimed series, Ed, has been working non-stop in both film and television since he wrapped his fourth and last season portraying the romantic bowling alley lawyer. Most recently, Cavanagh starred in the medical thriller, Sublime, directed by Tony Krantz, as well as Cake Eaters, the directorial debut of actress Mary Stuart Masterson. Currently, he is portraying "Dad” in the New Line feature How to Eat Worms, based on the very popular children’s book.
Cavanagh starred in CBS’s half-hour sit-com pilot My Ex-Live written by Emmy award winning writer, Rich Appel and directed by Kelsey Grammar, and was seen this spring on CBS and VH1 as the lead in Love Monkey, a one-hour series based on the hit cult book of the same name. In it Cavanagh stars as a music A&R man whose love life doesn’t always measure up to his career success.
Last year, in addition to starring in Sue Kramer’s Gray Matters, Cavanagh starred with Sally Fields and Ben Chaplin in the emotional indie film, Two Weeks, directed by Steve Stockman. In it, he plays one of three sons who rally to their mother (Fields) as she is dying of cancer.
Previously Cavanagh starred in the ABC Christmas movie, Snow, as well as the independent features The Heart of the Storm and Evan Oppenheimer’s Alchemy, a romantic comedy, which was featured in New York’s Tribeca Film Festival in 2005. In the taut thriller Heart of the Storm, Cavanagh makes a distinct departure from his usual persona as an easygoing charmer, portraying an escaped convict who, along with two cronies, takes refuge in the home of a woman and her two young daughters during a hurricane.

This show is smart and funny - how rare is that in a tv show?!? I'm so glad that mmm decided to air this show! I have been telling all of my friends about it since it first aired on CBS and I completely agree with Annette about why it was cancelled. I will join in on the begging and plead that there is actually some network head out there that can see that tv needs to be more than just crime dramas and more horrible reality shows. Too bad for all of us, I appear to be the kiss of death for tv shows - if I like it, it gets cancelled!! Do you think anyone will bring it back if I pretend to have hated it?? I'm willing to try...

This show is so different from most. Just as My So Called Life was. Everytime there is a great show on television it is taken off way too soon. Love Monkey premiered on CBS and just after 2 or 3 episodes the time slot was already taken over by another show then it came back then it happened again. This makes viewers confused about what time it actually comes on and frustrated that when we get into a show it's just taken off the air like that. Bring it back!!! Please.

The Canadian native's next movie is the psychological thriller "Sublime," which hits theaters in March. "It's different for me. I was soooo bummed when they cancelled the show. Instead, they kept shows like "My Name is Earl", I mean seriously? I love this show and I'm soooo glad that MMM as picked it up and is airing it (although it is reruns but nevertheless). And lastly, I think that Tom Cavanaugh is sooo sexy & cute! CBS (or anyone who knows a good tv series) - PLZ BRING IT BACK!!!!
Bring it back! Engaging characters, intelligent writing, and good music are rare in todays infotainment/reality tv dominated programming. This one is worth saving.

I have seen all three shows of love monkey and was heartbroken when it was cancelled. I now think less of cbs and will not quit until this show is re-aired. One of the best romantic comedy life shows featuring real music. Bring love moneky back now!!!!

Tom Cavanagh is a former college hoops point guard at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. He also happened to play the lead in the NBC show "Ed." Tom is a lot like his television alter ego, except that he's Canadian, and he's even more litigious in real life. Tom'll sue your ass, he will.
(In fact, I'm expecting a libel suit to be filed against me within a matter of days.)
Anyway, Moe and Tom were gracious enough to submit a top ten list of fall programs. Which is cool, because they actually have friends who are on television shows … although probably fewer of them after they read this.

I have been born with ADD(Attention Deficit Disorder); this is how JesusChrist the Almighty has made me. Just like he mademy father to have ADD. Many months ago I was everso blessed to work as an admin at a church.Everything was working out wonderfully then ooopsI made a terrible mistake about 7 weeks ago. Iconfronted the Senior Pastor that I have indeedhave, ADD and told him that I have paper work frommy state to back this up. He told me that hewanted to see this paper work and even shared itwith colleagues at the church. And he said that hewas going to work around it for me. I did notmind, I thought he was doing this to help the jobgo easier for me. Everything was running smoothly.He even invited me and one of my best friends tohis Holiday party. He got me gifts for theHolidays, and was always so gracious to me. Mygood friend, who has the gift of discernment, hasa hesitation about him, and she has been aChristian for a lot longer than I. Anyway, I toldher that he was just the nicest of people. Sheagreed to that but she said something was very offabout him….
Today before my shift ended,he called into his office to fire me, and here ishis excuse, I have ADD and it is not needed atthat Church, In fact he told me that IF he knowthen, while he was interviewing possiblecandidates, that I had ADD that he would haveNEVER hired me in the first place.
