The Mesnes Playing Field is a green urban space for all to enjoy. Peace and tranquility is the purpose and still remains undeveloped in 2009.

We can trace the field back to the 1800's, where an agreement was made for it's use for recreational pleasure. It falls in the Mesnes Conservation Area and share's a green neighbour in Mesnes Park.

A proposed development has been planned to build a boys/girls club on the site. This completely disregards any heritage value, it's conservation status and also the fact that people still have that bit of open land to use at their leisure. We surely want to keep it this way.

By no means are we against the club, just the location. Wigan is big enough to cater for everything, so we suggest that using a redundant brownfield site would suffice. There's many to choose from.

By signing this petition, you are agreeing to the fact that you want the Mesnes Field to remain as is for all time. It was created for the people, so let's keep it.
