I agree with everything said, to a point. The historic nature of the building, the easy parking and friendly staff mean nothing if the sales are there. That's where Starbucks Corp. loses me: this place is always busy. How can it be losing money? That shoebox on Centre Street is inconvenient and not worth the effort. Closing this location doesn't make sense to me.
I support this petition.
I've used and loved this building almost daily - as student, commuter and retiree - for over 60 years, since long before there was a Starbucks anywhere. It's a successful, very-busy "mixed-use" facility.
This is one of my favorite Starbucks locations, and the only one I really enjoy spending a lot of time (and money) in, rather than grabbing my coffee and running.
Don't close this great Starbucks! It has plenty of tables and seating, both the T and parking are possible, and the staff and atmosphere are the best. It has a real sense of community. I NEVER go to the Centre St. "box" Starbucks because parking is so difficult, there are never seats and tables open, and it has a sterile atmosphere. If you close the train station Starbucks, I'd go to Peet's rather than the Centre St. location.
Simply put, it's unbelievable to me that there is a petition to save a poorly-planned, disastrously-executed expansion orgy that this company has engaged in. Please, prioritize, people.
THE FOUNDER OF THE COFFEE CONNECTION THE PERSON WHO OPENED THE 70 UNION STREET CAFE IS INTERESTED IN THE POSSIBILITY OF TAKING OVER THE LOCATION.
CALL TERROIR COFFEE AND ASK FOR LORI HOWELL.
I have a Starbucks location downstairs from my office in Brighton. However, I enjoy this location so much that I risk a parking ticket every morning just to see the great staff that is there. Please reconsider your decision to close this location!
As a longtime Newton Resident I feel that closing Union St. makes very little sense, not only is it an historic location, it is the oldest Starbucks in the area, and the location has even more history as a coffee spot (The Coffee Connection was there before Starbucks). If Starbucks abandons Union St, it is very likely that another cafe or coffee store will just take the location and compete with Starbucks. The location is beautiful, the manager and staff are great, it has history, and closing it would just invite another competitor into the Newton Center area. Please reconsider this choice. Union Street was once the regional flagship store- with some work it could easily be that again.
PLEASE KEEP STARBUCKS OPEN!! Its the only place i will drink any type of coffee or tea. If you close i will be very dissapointed because i have spent alot of money into starbucks!
I support this petition.
The staff are truly wonderful at this location and this particular Starbucks really feels like a real part of the community. The historic nature of the building and the size of the interior space really offers an environment beyond the typical cookie cutter Starbucks layout. It has character that the clientel connect with Starbucks. I personally choose to go to this Starbucks over two others that are closer to me in proximity. Please keep it open.
I support this petition. Unfortunately, it's obvious that whoever made this decision paid no attention to the facts and has never visited the area... A "Macstarbucks" on an inaccessible street (as far as pedestrian traffic is concerned) vs a beautiful location at a train station with easily accessible parking, etc. What a shame!
I support this petition. It will be on to Peets in Newton, Brookline and Cambridge if you close the one Starbucks where you can park easily and actually sit down.
The crazy thing is that the math of this Starbucks closing doesn't even make sense. The store's finances have improved dramatically over the past 2 years. DRAMATICALLY. Yet, Starbucks management has taken an automated calculation over the past 5 years to make their closing determination. I suspect if they used the average of the last two years, this Starbucks would not even be considered as a store to close.
I support this petition.
Lori Howell founder of the Coffee Connection chain when told of the intention of Starbucks to close the still popular location has said that she would like the family company Terroir Coffee to examine reopening the 70 Union St. Newton Starbucks.
I support this petition. Not only is this a unique and beautiful building, but the employees here are the best in personality and speed. I bypass 4 Starbucks to come to this one, because the employees are so excellent.
I support this petition. The Newton Centre Starbucks is one of the only Starbucks I have actually gone out of my way to go to, as it is such a historic, unique, and convenient location. If it must be closed, I only hope effort is made to ensure the preservation of the historic train station it currently occupies.
I support this petition. The train stop location is by far one of the most unique starbuck locations I've ever been in and I hope you will not get rid of it. I love to visit it each time I go to Newton Center. PS. It is the best one in Newton Center.
This location is much better than the other nearby location. I strongly feel that if Starbucks must close one, the Train Center Starbucks should remain OPEN!!
I support this petition. I cannot believe that Starbucks would choose to close such a wondeful location!!! Not only is it a unique location, it is also 1 of the best!! It is right on the very busy green line Newton Centre subway stop and is frequented by ALL of us who live and work in the Centre. Amore obvious choice for closure would be the Starbucks located on Centre St which is just like every other Starbucks throughout the country. The staff on Union St is wonderful, and use of such an historic building makes it an even more appealling location. Even as an avid Starbucks customer...I WILL NOT BE GIVING MY support to the Centre St Starbucks. Please keep our Union St Starbucks available for all of us!!!
I support this petition. I was an avid Dunkin Donuts coffee drinker until my office moved to Newton Ctr and now I love this Starbucks it is cute and I will be going back to D&D if this location closes
I support this petition.
This Starbucks is much move convenient to the MBTA and has more space and charm than the other Starbucks in Newton Center. If this Starbucks closes, Peets would be move convenient than the other Starbucks.
Please keep this Starbucks open. It is one of the few remaining ones with charm and character, a space that has become a destination for us. It is true to the original vision of Starbucks as a 3rd place, and enhances the image of the brand in a way that transfers to the other, more generic-storefront locations. Closing it would be a loss to the community and to the company.
I support this petition. I'm taking my daily drink runs to Dunkin' Donuts in newton center if this starbucks closes. Nor will I ever go to any other starbucks. If you must close it, put an Anna's Taqueria there.
I support this petition. Such a nice place to study... really spacious and doesn't smell like old people like the library, or kill my cell phone battery with the signal blocking and constant "searching for service"...
I support this petition. As the price of gas goes wild, more people are turning to public transport, and closing the 'Bux adjoining the train station is only going to make it harder for commuters.
I support this petition. This particular location is EXTREMELY convenient as it is literally on the train route...grabbing a coffee going to work, getting one waiting to be picked up after coming back from a flight with all of your luggage... Not only is this site unique and beautiful architectural details, but it has a A++++ for location. Please reconsider closing it. Thank you, Samantha Lowe
Please do not close the Union Street Starbucks in Newton Centre. It's one of my favorite places, and I look foward to going there when I get on and off the "T".
It' s cozy and inviting, and an oasis.
I support this petition. This store is in a historic location. By closing it you are saying you have no appreciation for history or ambiance. I have been to Starbucks locations around the world and this is by far one of the best. You are quite frankly closing the wrong store in this area. The other store is smaller, less comfortable, has a drastically worse atmosphere, is not historic, and is tough to park at. You are making a huge mistake. By saving a few bucks on rent you are disheartening your customer base. Shame on you.
I support this petition. This location is a great public space. I remember when it was a Coffee Connection outlet. It's been an important convenient meeting place many times in my life.
My wife and I met there while working at Coffee Connection just as Starbucks bought them took over. I have no qualms with Starbucks, I really enjoyed working for them, but this store in an institution in Newton.
I support this petition. This starbucks is so easy to get to, it is big, and it is not on a busy street, unlike the centre street starbucks. I won't go to starbucks as much as I used to because usually I get a chai before I ride the T, now I will not be able to do that.
I support this petition.I also will never set foot in another Starbucks and transfer my coffee addication to Peets around the corner. Why not close the Centre strreet Starbucks
I support this petition, and I cannot believe that they are closing the best Starbucks ever. Why not close the other one? It's not nearly as good as the train station one.
As a long time Coffee Connection customer and then a loyal Starbucks customer, I am very displeased by Starbucks' recent decision to close the Union Street location.
Starbucks is clearly not thinking competitively. DD is now offering a strong, complex and interesting brew. They plaster the map and have drive-in. Furthermore, the Union Street location will be filled by another "Coffee Connection" and will hurt the Center Street Starbucks. What are they thinking?
I support this petition.
I support this petition. It's a great location! Right above the train, a coveted spot for any coffee shop as it gets business at all times of the day from commuters. Above that, it has character, something most Starbucks lack. This particular installment to the chain feels like a small town coffee shop, not just another Starbucks. You would be doing Newton a disfavor by closing this store, and keeping the Center St. one open as that one is impersonal and out of the way. I know if that were the one remaining open I would rarely be inclined to spend money there.
I support this petition. If you truly value your customers and the quality of your brand, look less at the bottom line and more at the big picture. This location is worth saving.
Before Starbucks was on Union Street this location has been a coffee shop. That's because it is such an ideal spot. Not only that, this is the best architectural space, worth going to for great coffee and the space. Why not close a generic store. This one is such a jewel. Great wait staff too. Save our Starbucks!
I support this petition. Please don't close this great Starbucks - in addition to being a great location and unique store, it has the most friendliest staff I've ever encountered. Especially in the mornings! They actually know me and my favorite drinks.
Starbucks sports a charming, old-time relaxing, friendly atmosphere. I can't think of a better enviornment that reflects this image than this cozy old railroad station in Newton MA. To close this Starbucks goes against all that you have done to promote the Starbucks' charm. Please reconsider your motives for choosing this site!
