I support this petition. As others have said, my children love watching the trains from this store. Although we moved from Newton Centre to Newton Lower Falls, we regularly go to this Starbucks when we buy bagels at Rosenfelds and go to the barbers.
I support this petition. This is the coziest most unique Starbucks I have ever seen. It is also a T-Stop, so traffic is unbelievable. I am told the little Starbuck express around the corner which has no available seating can barely handle the volume, despite the larger Train starbucks location. Don't make this unwise choice!

The Newton Centre, MA Starbucks location on Union Street in the old train station building is simply too unique a structure with a special atmosphere to be closed. Please don't close my favorite "third place."
I would like to propose another use for the coffee shop in the evening. We have a theatre group who would like to put on short plays and invite guests to be our audience. It would give Starbucks an added income for the times when business is slow. Would appreciate an answer to this by someone in the Starbucks chain of command.
My name is Jay Kronfeld. I am writing this to encourage Starbucks to save the Newton Center, 70 Union St., facility. This is an excellent location coincidental with the MBTA train stop. The structure is old and has a great deal of charm. Your staff at this location is extremely helpful and almost everyone who works there knows me by my first name. I am a vision-impaired person. The staff's attention and assistance for me is, I'm sure, noted by other patrons. If this facility is closed, you would lose me as a customer. I recognize there is another location a couple blocks away but it might as well be 10 miles away for me. Crossing of major intersections is difficult. I almost always stop at this Starbucks location when I'm using the "T" to go to Boston or if I am going out of town. I might even suggest that you consolidate the other store to this location. This store is located at the corner of Centre Street and Beacon. I have signed the petition to save the Starbucks at 70 Union St. I hope this short note has a positive impact on your management's decision.
Thank you.
Jay R. Kronfeld
I was shocked to hear that this Starbucks is closing. I don't live in Massachusetts any more, but I have visited the place many times when I did. I always thought of it as the coolest Starbucks I've ever visited - and I've been to hundreds. It's a shame it is closing - I guess the corporation doesn't know what it has.
I visited this Starbucks for the first time today. It is a great, unique, and friendly place to grab a coffee while waiting for the train. Keep it open!
I support this petition, and I will NEVER spend another dollar at another Starbucks location. This is the most convenient and unique location of any business I've ever seen. It saddens me to think that when I get off the train, that at some point it will be no longer.
My husband and I just moved to Newton from Phoenix, AZ and selected Newton Center over all of the greater Boston area strictly because of the charm that is the Newton Center Starbucks location. I will be devastated if it closes. I support this petition.
I support this petition, but please remember...this is a business decision. We have know idea what the rent factors, labor costs etc...are that are involved with these places. If we can't help them sell enough coffee in our favorite locations, we can't wish them into profitability. Just my 2 cents worth.
This is the most funny stupid thing i have ever heard of. All the factories are closing down and jobs are being outsourced but when starbucks closes down everyone is so concearned...

This is the best Starbucks location I have seen. Having lived in Seattle, Chicago, New York, Charleston, and now Boston - by far this is the most welcoming and best cup of coffee ambiance I have found. Further - my three children - all under the age of 3 - LOVE watching the trains and seeing their dad off to work at the train station. Close the other trashy Starbucks on Center street. I bet if you analize the revenue, this Train Station Starbucks by far outsells the Center STreet location (the rent may be more - but I bet the profits are more too!!) Don't close your eyes to 'exceptions' -- please keep this one open!!!
I support this petition. The Union Street Starbucks is a unique and vibrant space. It is a real 'destination' and has a large capacity. Its convenient location to the train make it a natural stopping point every morning for my cup of coffee. I will not go to the 'other' Newton Center Starbucks if the Union Station closes.
I support this petition. I will supremely miss this quaint and unique location. the other Starbucks in Newton Center doesn't compare to this special location.
I support this petition. The staff at this location is amazing and it is such a nice location. I don't understand why they would close it. The Center Street location is forgettable and cookie cutter. Didn't the board of directors for Starbucks jus visit this location last year because it is such a nice location???
I support this petition. I understand that the rent is higher for the train station than the Centre Street site, but abandoning the Union St. location will not only be to the detriment of our community but an alienation of many, many currently loyal customers. They have other local choices and are not going to be inclined to patronize Starbucks if this decision goes through.
I support this petition. This location serves the many riders of the public transportation system (THE T) and is everything that Starbucks strives to be...the other Newton store is just "another coffee shop"...please review your decision and close the other store...keep the shop on Union Street OPEN....
I support this petition.
Please uphold your brand positioning as the "meeting company." The venue is unique and enables more people to use the space. Close the one on Centre St!

Hoping this message reaches both Howard Behar & Howard Schultz. I met each of you when you toured through Boston earlier this year. Howard Behar was recalling when the location had been a Coffee Connection. This location is the representative of specialty coffee in Newton Center. Closing this store is a mistake. Instead turn the other Starbucks back into the Seattle's best it once was,.
While I'm signing this petition because I like the train station location, the truth is that the Center Street shop has been there just as long or longer (although I've never actually been inside). It used to be a Coffee Connection before Starbucks bought them out. Also, while the train station location is quaint and ultra-convenient, the seating is lousy and it has some of the worst acoustics known to man. I speak from the experience of a monthly meeting held there for the past several years. The staff has always been adequate (and usually much more than that, though they rarely meet the standard of other shops such as the one in Arlington). I'll miss the shop if it goes, but I'll cope. As a regular from one town over, I certainly won't miss the ever-so-pretentious and full-of-themselves locals who frequent it. And for those bemoaning the business decision here, it does come down to dollars. There's a snippet in the Globe today implying that the rent in the station is unreasonably high.
This was my first neighbourhood starbucks, I moved from Ripley St to Nahanton St ayear back , inspite of that I still come here because of the unique location and the character of the coffee shop.
It is difficult to understand the economics behind the decison. It cannot be based on demand , the only reason could be cost of operations, I am sure that could be resolved.
This was my first Starbucks ever. No more. Perhaps the fact that they've let the interior go and that it is in need of a remodeling went into it. Perhaps the reconstruction of the subway line last year and Langley road this year went into it. I've spent hundreds there (if not more)... hopefully someone will build a nicer coffee shop in the same location. As this shop is ALL about location.

Obviously this is a time at Starbucks when many decisions are being made, and of course some decisions will be ill-advised. Closing this location instead of the Center Street Starbucks will cause a great deal of ill-will in an upscale community. Perhaps the Starbucks organization considers this historic building an eccentric deviation from its usual granite and stainless steel image, but for the residents of Newton it has long been viewed as a comfortable and sociable get-together spot with some of the areas most spectacular architecture. Frankly, if Starbucks moves out, I would recommend Peets to move in. They will need the extra space to accommodate the many customers who will inevitably switch over.
I support this petition.
This is a wonderful venue. The staff are friendly and make excellent drinks. I travel for business and visit Starbucks elsewhere in the US. Union Street has the best foam.
