For years, the National Championship Tournament of the American Mock Trial Association offered a little levity to an intense week of championship competition with the All-American Round. The All-American Round was a trial composed entirely of attorneys and witnesses receiving All-American distinction. Unfortunately, last year the decision was made to cease this practice, a practice enjoyed by participants and observers alike. This is a petition to reinstate the All-American Round with a commitment to keep it both tasteful and within the structural confines of a normal AMTA competition. What is and isn't acceptible in an All-American trial can be easily controlled by the presider of the round, so the concerns previously raised regarding the trial are in fact arguments for a firmer standard of regulating the round, not cancelling it. The All-American Trial is an AMTA tradition enjoyed by many, a hopeful goal for many AMTA competitors, and an enjoyable consolation prize for attorneys and witnesses of high talent that did not qualify for the final round. It is for these reasons, as well as reasons listed below, that the undersigned respectfully request to the AMTA Board of Directors that this valued tradition be reinstated.

As a former AMTA All-American attorney and an admitted mock-trial addict, I fully support this petition.

I've never been able to see an AA trial but everyone tells me that it was a lot of fun... don't make the rest of us new people miss out!

The AA trial was fun and enjoyable for the participants as well as the spectators. That should not be taken away from the AMTA community.

It is a shame to see the value of such a good exercise go to waste because of past events. This is a great experience for all involved. We are college students; we all should know how to handle ourselves in a mature manner. One group of students shouldn't ruin it for the rest.

The All-American trial was a fun way of honoring individuals who did well. As long as everyone is on the same page going into it, it should be brought back.

This is a great way for AMTA to reinforce the educational component of quick thinking, while encouraging the community aspect by presenting the opportunity for members of many teams to compete together.

We're college students. We're allowed to have fun. Also, I'll forever remain sad that no one got to hear my Southern Preacher Closing for Kissner.

I think it should run with the same degree of intensity and reverence as the championship round. These are the best and the brightest and we should have the benefit of seeing them.

I think the AA trial should be brought back. It is rare for people to get the opportunity to see the best of the best and have no stress attached to it. Provided there are limits and structure there is no reason why it shouldn't stay around.

The All-American round represented college students being college students.

The AA round is a great tradition that really gives those who miss the final round and win an individual award something to look forward to.
