A lot of states and cities have been making it illegal to own a pit bull just because they are strong dogs, and capable of hurting someone. But just because they can doesn't mean that they will. If they have a good owner, they're very sweet and make great pets. I own a pitbull, and you could do pretty much anything to her, and she wouldn't hurt you. My three year old sister has done things that would make most dogs at least snap at her. My pit bull never has. Overall, they're great pets.

Pitbulls have been banned in these places:

Royal City, Washington
Denver, Colorado
Ontario, Canada
Winnipeg, Canada
United Kingdom
Prince George's County, Maryland

Bans have been proposed in these places:

Shelbyville, California
New York City, NY
Aurora, Colorado
Oklahoma
Youngstown, Ohio
Richland, Washington
Tupelo, Mississippi
Parker, Colorado
Chicago, Illinois
Independence , Missouri

There are many thing spreading myths about pit bulls. One says they've got a "locking jaw", meaning that they can't let go if they bite something. Dr. I. Brisbin has said that "The few studies which have been conducted of the structure of the skulls, mandibles and teeth of pit bulls show that, in proportion to their size, their jaw structure and thus its inferred functional morphology, is no different from that of any breed of dog. There is absolutely no evidence for the existence of any kind of 'locking mechanism' unique to the structure of the jaw and/or teeth of the American Pit Bull Terrier."

One, Tom Skeldon reported that a pit bull had started "going wild" and biting the kennel walls. He tranquilized the dog, and left for a few minutes, waiting for the dog to pass out. When he returned, the dog had bitten a cable, causing the door to open, he it wouldn't let go, even though it had passed out. But studies have found out that other types of dogs could also be unable to relax their jaws when unconscious.

There is another myth that they can't feel pain. This has been studied and proven untrue. Their nervous system works just like any other dog's.

One of the most common myths is that they'll turn on their owners with no reason. No sane dog will do this without reason. Usually, aggression can be traced to problems their owners have caused or disease.

I support this Petition to the fullest.People shouldnt be prejudice to one type of animal.It\'s how the animal is raised, the owner should be punished for it\'s actions.

I support this petition. pit bulls are not different from any other breed, so they should be treated that way. pit bull ban is racism.

I support this petition.I have two beautiful pits. They are the most gentle dogs you would ever see.I have a neice that is 2 years old and she climbs all over them and they don\'t even move.I am totally against people saying they are mean dogs, any dog can be mean ,it is all in how they are raised. So that being said here is my opinion\"Punish the Deed not the BREED\" and I will always stand by it to the end.I live in ogdensburg,New York and they are always talking bad about my dogs because we do have people here that do abuse the breed but,it just makes me so mad b/cof those people they frown on my pits and it is not fair.I am also very against animal cruelty.I have seen alot of it here, and I don\'t like it and our court system lets these people go with a slap on the hand.

I support this petition. Have always had pitbulls and always will. It is time to stand up for these animals that depend on us for everything just like children. If a child acts mean you don't say what is wrong with that kid.... you say what have those parents done wrong!!! These dogs are just like children, only learning and reacting as they have been taught, and their environment has conditioned them too. SAVE THEM!!!

Pit bulls arent born dangerous they are made dangerous by louzy dog owners. Dont punish a whole breed and people who love their pet for this..Go after the humans who do this to the dogs

Blame the deed not the breed. Any dog can be mean if you train it that way. Before you judge pick up a book and read about what your fighting for. The media only wants you to hear the negative because thats what sells. Until then keep your mouth shut!! Quit being ignorant.

I don't own a pit, but I don't think it's right for people who do own one to have to get rid of their family member..
