Dear Senators: Please don't sit by while our American free election system is discarded and demolished by those who speak of democracy while trashing it. Please stand up on January 6th and refuse to ratify this travesty of an election! Help us bring honesty, fairness and REAL democracy back to our system of governance. This country's government is supposed to be "Of the people, by the people and for the people," not of, by and for the rich, powerful and corrupt. Respectfully, Susan Lee Talent, OR

This is our best hope to prevent election fraud. We worry about elections in some far distant land yet shurg our shoulders when elections are stole right here in the good old USA.Democratic candidates are always the victem, yet both parties and the American voters are losers in the long run.

Please do not certify another stolen election. Do not wimp out like Senators did in 2000.Even though Kerry may not contest his own election, it is your duty to protect the election system by not voting for fraudulent electors. It is your duty to support a full investigation of 2004 vote fraud. All voting machines must have a voter- verified paper trail to ensure accurate counts and voter confidence.

There must be a thorough and impartial investigation into the voter suppression and significant "irregularities" that took place in Ohio and other states. Until it can be determined that this was a completely fair and honest election, there should be no certification. Honest elections are an essential component of a true democracy.

I've been thinking about this awhile now. Paper and pen seem like the obvious choice. Instead of having appointed people, there should be a pool of all registered voters, that are picked AT RANDOM, much like the way jurors are picked. Add to this that companies MUST give employees PAID days off for training and working Election Day. It's OUR Republic and OUR democracy! Let the voters run their own elections! Tell me, what red-blooded, patriotic American wouldn't take two PAID days off work to ensure their democracy is working? Give the voters OWNERSHIP of the PROCESS! Power to the People! This would also include no funny black boxes counting votes: paper and pencil and hand counting. This is how they STILL do it in Canada! No more republican-backed companies (ES&S, Diebold, Sequoia, TRIAD!) getting a WAD of OUR TAX $$$ on bogus, insecure machines and stealing our elections! I'd add that if we MUST use any electronic tabulation, that it be OPEN-SOURCE code, available to the General Public for review. Hardware would also have to be scrutinized, since WiFi can easily be incorporated in any electronic device - takes about three chips. Lastly, Election Day should be a NATIONAL HOLIDAY Many democracies give everybody a day off to vote. Ditto that for the primaries. No more IA & NH picking candidates. The demographics of these two states do not represent an accurate cross-section of America. Screw tradition and let's move on to a better, fairer system.

A great shadow of doubt has fallen over our last presidental election. There is a lack of faith that each vote cast was counted in this election. As a nation we must verify each vote, and count each vote, and assure that every person who wished to vote was able to vote. When that hurdle is jumped we must have in place a verifiable, recountable paper ballot for each vote cast. In Massachusetts voters pencil in an oval on their ballot for their candidate. The ballot is fed into a machine which tallies the count at the end of the day. It is fast and easy. If it is good enough for the SAT test folks it is good enough for me. (The SAT tests are filled out by penciling in ovals too). Anything short of this will cause me to lose faith in our democracy.

Like all of us signing this petition, I have been deeply dismayed at the feeling of betrayal by those who supervise and tally the votes from our last two presidential elections. I am now convinced that tens of thousands of voters were turned away at the polls, had their votes switched or otherwise manipulated and we do not know the actual result of an honest election. Please REFUSE TO CERTIFY THIS ELECTION until we have recounts in the most suspicious voter regions. Show us you have some guts, an honor code and ability to speak up and question these results.

Please allow the Ohio returns to be properly examined. The new and unproven and not at all fail-safe electronic voting technology was used, vote counts and voters do not match, individuals claim their votes were misrecorded. If this were anywhere else in the world, the press would be outspoken. Instead, an awesome silence. Didn't the Michael Moor movie embarass you? African American after African American Congressperson with evidence of disenfrachised constituents, and not one lily white Senator deigned to give them a chance to be heard. Is this a democracy in action? Redeem yourselves, please. There is no harm in listening, and that is theheart of a democratic state.

It is a source of great sadness for me to witness the current events in USA elections. I was raised to believe democracy was the great experiment. And it is, but it most be protected by all in order to survive. The old say that "for evil to triumph you only need good people to stand and do nothing" seems to apply here more that ever. "Winning at all costs" has replaced true democraticprinciples. How can we face the world and tell them we are the bastion of freedom anymore. We've lost our moral compass and fortitude. Allowing the outcome of 2000 election to stand without vigorous opposition, protest and leadership has brought us to the disaster of 2004. As serious as the War in Irak is, it pales in comparison with what is happening in our country and our democratic system. It is frightening to see it diasappearing in front of our eyes.
