What is Dr. Seuss AZA?

Dr. Seuss AZA #195 is part of a non-profit youth organization called BBYO (B'nai B'rith Youth Organization), which is for Jewish Teens from ages 13-18, grades 8-12. BBYO is the youth group as a whole, and it is further split into chapters, of AZA (all guys), BBG (all girls), and BBYO (coed) chapters. Dr. Seuss AZA #195 is an AZA chapter, all guys.

Every chapter of B'nai B'rith functions differently. Dr Seuss AZA has events every Saturday and Sunday, and business meetings every other Wednesday to discuss issues and other such business within the chapter.

Our events consist of 5 genres (known in BBYO as "folds"): Educational/Cultural, Social, Community Service/Social Action, Athletic, and Judaic. Other than having events in which our members (Alephs) bond, have a good time, and discover themselves, we have events in which our members learn about other cultures and educational subjects benificial to ourselves. We participate in lots of community service, such as Friendship Circle (hours upon hours given to that organization as a result of Dr. Seuss AZA).

Every member of Dr. Seuss AZA follows the following "7 Cardinal Principles": Judaism, Charity, Conduct, Filial Love, Fraternity, Patriotism, and Purity.

What is happening:

Dr. Seuss Enterprises, the company that owns all copyrights and trademarks to the name Dr. Seuss and his works has contacted Dr. Seuss AZA, telling them that if they do not change their chapter name and disband of anything relating to Dr. Seuss, that they will be sued for infringing on the copyrights.

Dr. Seuss AZA is a NON-PROFIT youth group, which bases itself on respectable ethics and qualities, and can only do good to the name of Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss AZA has been around for 17 years now, 7 of those being online and on the internet... and it has not caused an ounce of confusion or slander of the "Dr. Seuss" image.

Not just that, but there are also Fair Use Laws pertaining to what makes one justified to use copywritten material. Laws which Dr. Seuss AZA arguably falls under quite nicely - but Dr. Seuss Enterprises allows itself to use its power as a wealthy organization and bully non-profit youth groups. It seems as though these lawyers' hearts are two sizes too small.
