I believe So Far From the Bamboo Grove is setting a bad example to students. My daughter's friend did not know the difference between North and South Korea, so my daughter got extremely offended. Also, though they are in 7th grade, I believe the students are too young to read about rape in schools. Therefore, So Far From the Bamboo Grove should be removed from the school's curriculum.

I don\'t support this petition. This book is real life told through the eyes of someone that actually had to go through this. So instead of saying that it needs to be removed because your kid was scared or offened, think about the person that was seeing people getting raped and killed, not just reading about it. So, this book doesn\'t need to be removed because it intoduces 7th grade children, children learning about sex and STDs and all that other stuff, to the real world, not a fake fairy tale covering the truth.

With the level of violence and sexuality, depicted in this book., along with the racism that it evokes, this book SHOULD require PARENTAL support prior to a school district mandating it to be read. I caution ALL parents to read explicit excerpts before allowing this book to be put upon your child! I am in full support of this petition.

Any book contemplated by the school district / board to be "required reading" should be summarized and forwarded to all parents for review and feedback in advance of such requirement.

The contents in So Far From the Bamboo Grove are both voilent and frightening for students in this age group. We are parents who require ratings placed on movies and television shows but have no say on which books are required (???) reading material in our school district. Please, parents, I ask you to read this book or at least some of the excerpts and/or reviews to judge for yourself why this book should be removed from the school's curricullum.
