Focus on looking after Irish people:
1 Health and safety of locals living nearby
2 Exploration companies getting paid to mine the field not getting ownership of the field
Supply of the gas to Irish people being obligatory
Criminalising people is not the way to settle disputes. It is only right that companies are disagreed with by populations. If it was easy for companies to do what they wanted without censure what would the world be like!? We are already running the planet around 1 3/4 above its sustainable capacity. It is the right and duty of citizens to question the processes that lead us here....however many are imprisoned this duty can not be eroded.
a band called refused once said: "I took the first bus outta shell town cuz they didnt want me hanging around...lets get the first bus outta here". so true. dont let them stifle us..we will be heard.
How can you justify selling off our natural resources to private companies, then allow tham to extratct our natural resources in a way that endangers the public who you have just ripped off, and then go as far as to jail those people who stand up to and question the multinationals.
Shell to hell in their own fire ball preferably at the Het-loo palace and not here in Ireland. Take Bertie and the warbritans to your "fire ball " party and the other multi-nationals with you lets burn turf not oil!!!!!
Keep the sHELL out of our paw zone, sea is for fish not pollution, go to (s)HELL Shell and victory to the pople , down with lawyers, judges and other corrup practices. Ireland the 5th World [bannanaless] republic dictatorship of the bad and the ugly brown paper envelope goverment!!!
Shell to hell in their own fire ball preferably at the Het-loo palace and not here in Ireland. Take Bertie and the warbritans to your "fire ball " party and the other multi-nationals with you lets burn turf not oil!!!!!
Coformity to a fool proff project with reference to health matters must be sought before indulging in projects like Corrib Gas Project. This project must be modified to assure health concerns.
There may be a time that we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never come a day when we fail to protest!" My thoughts as an ex-Shell customer!
It is time for governments to stop going for the money and to consider their ultimate positions as stewards for the Earth, our only home, our children and our children's children.
The oil giants are getting away with murder as usual, no doubt having paid off the corrupt government. 5 innocent men are in jail for daring to question the "state dictators".
This is the pillaging of our natural resources by a Corporate giant, facilitated by the Irish Government in a GUBU style giveaway and backed up by the judiciary. Health and Safety and envirnmental protection are of diminished importance by all involved, but these are issues of paramount importance.
People of Ireland unite this is not just a problem for the people of Rossport, we will all suffer at the hands of these criminals, remember every part of this island is ours to protect
Not only have 5 people exercising democratic rights been jailed; not only have the Irish people been cheated of their resources by Ray Burke and his successors; the company is proposing uniquely high (and dangerous) pressure in an area of deep bog where landslides have occurred in recent years. There is no evidence that they have any expertise in such an environment.
I wish you all inspiration and power to withstand the low conscious people and companies who only go for the big money. As native Indians said, the white man will only understand that gold can't be eaten when all rivers are poisoned, all trees burned and the air too polluted to breathe.
Má tá ceacht ar bith foghlamtha ag Rialtas na hÉireann ó na binse fiosruithe uile ár linne déanfaidh siad athbhreithniú láithreach ar an gcaoi a thug siad faoi iarratais Shell ón gcéad lá.
I salute the courage of the five Rossport people. Their principaled stand is in stark contrast to the proven moral bankruptcy and corrpution of those politicians who granted Shell the 'licence' in the first place, and which allows them take our gas without paying royalties! Only banana republics allow these sort of arrangements! To add insult to injury Shell have the neck to imprison people for trying to protect their families and environment.A a further public enquiry is essential.
The Irish goevernmant is giving away our resources to a multinational and paying for it. They are in breach of the Irish Consitution, as well as humanitarian and environmental laws. This gift is unprecedented in hsitory. Now they are jailing Irish citizens. This country is worse than any banana republic in Central America. At least their officials profited from their treason.
The treatment of these people by the government, the courts and the multinational Shell is totally unjust but is simply proof that we no longer live in what we are continually told is a democracy (and that goes for other western countries too!). Free the 5!
A fully independent review of this operation needs to be conducted. An investigation into the planning process which allowed Shell to get this far should also be conducted.
