I am deeply disappointed by the way our government has treated these protesters and has allowed a multinational to benefit from plundering our national resources.
Credit to the men and people of Rossport for sticking up for their right to live in a safe environment and for the rights of the people of Ireland and the rights of generations to come. These men are innocent and should be freed.
God help our Children when you have these multinationals running this country
Fair plea to the Mayo lads for standing up against this rotten goverment.FF and the likes of shell have made shit of the country and WE mise andg thusa have done NOthing about it.THEY HAVE US!!!!!!!
How can the project be given the full blessing given its shady past. A full review of the project and how it was approved in the first place needs to be carried out even if it means revealing skeletons for the party that everyone knows are there!
Boycott now! The only way to free the Rossport 5 is stand united and Boycott Shell and Statoil. The people of Ireland need to think about the innocent men in prison away from their families and love ones every time they pass or think about filling up in a Shell or Statoil station. There should be visible signs i.e. placards and posters showing the 5 men outside stations or on nearby poles to remind people of the injustice been carried out and to inform visitors to Ireland about this situation. Don’t forget where the name Boycott came from (estate of Lord Erne in County Mayo) and make full use of it now just as we did back in 1880. Keep up the good work.
Lig na cuigear fear amach as an phríosún, tá sé náireach go bhfuil siad ann agus gan iad ach ag cosaint a gcearta. Tá an t-am ag an rialtas muscladh suas agus stad de ligeann do Shell a rogha rud a dhéanamh inár dtír. Níl seo ceart ar dhóigh ar bith!
Ba cheart go mbeadh náire ar SEPIL as na daoine ionraice seo ar saoránaigh Éireannacha iad a chur i bpríosún.
SEPIL should be ashamed of themselves for imprisoning these decent people, citizens of this country.
Absolute disgrace!
The Iirsh State locks up its own citizens to protect a huge and wealthy multinational which is creaming off the citizens own resources for nothing!
Shame!!!!
I fully support the campaign and the men's stance. I think it was great to hear so many people speak so well at the demo in dublin recently. I feel it is really vital to make the point about our resources being sold off for almost nothing. The points by a the SIPTU person at the demo were relevant - in a few years when the multinationals have gone to China and Eastern Eusrope for cheap labour the natural resources that could give a decent future to our children will be in the hands of Shell and the like.
Keep up the struggle and I believe the Unions like the ICTU should be a focus of the campaign. What are they doing in talking with the government and IBEC while the 5 men are in jail. They should be called to come clear on where they stand- if they don't support the men and the campign it is better that people know that. What are they are talking about - I guess it is how to engage in more deals to keep the profits rooling in rather than the intersts of people like the 5 men and their demands
Best of luck and if the women are thinking of doing something like demanding action from the national Women's Council etc I would be interested. Anne
Shell should be made to pay reasonable royalties for the extraction of Ireland's natural resources.Thius deal was negotiated by corrupt minister Ray Bourke.
I have marveled at the ancient bogs in Mayo on a trip to Ireland. I even bought an oil painting of them! The oil companies are turning the earth inside out and it is not a pretty sight.
I found out about the pipeline through Rossport from a feature on BBC1's "Countryfile". What kind of democracy is it that imprisons its citizens for protecting the environment and rewards corporate bully boys like SHELL.
I'm appalled about the 2-facedness of it all. School bullies are expelled, work bullies are sacked yet big multi national bullies like Shell are allowed to ride roughshod over everyone & get away with it. They're the ones who should be in jail not those 5 innocent men protecting their homes & livelihood. It's true what they say...money talks!
For the sake of Rossport, please look into the history of Rhoscrowther in Pembrokeshire, which is now deserted. Is is built in the shadow of Texaco Oil Refinery.
Keep up the good work, The country is starting to sit up and look.
I have been down the same road for the last 4 years, trying to stop GreenStar ( a multi national) from building a Super Dump in our area.- Kilconnell/Cappataggle/Ne winn Anti Dump Group. Chairman Pauric Lohan 086-1737467. 090-9686808
I think it is a scandal that a pipeline like this is being built in apopulated area of unmatched beauty, only for the profit of a global player like Shell!
good luck to the campaign, and the process of appeal to release the men currently incarcerated against all sense, and humane reason..standing up for their families against corporate oppression/exploitation..
Mr. Ahern please go to Nigeria and ask the government why Ken Sarawewa was sentenced to death for a trumped up murder charge. Might it have been because he challenged the oppressive and ecological disastrous practices of Shell Nigeria? Are you also going to roll over like the Nigerian government? As a government you are all pathetic. Beannacht dea lies an Rossport 5. Mise le meas. RH
