I think what happened at the Mayo county council meeting the other week was a disgrace. The Council have let down the people of Rossport and Erris and Mayo. total cowardice and ignorance was displayed by them which is made all the worse when you think of how long this issue has been going on for now. I support the creation of a League as reported in the Mayo News and I wish Maura Harrington and all of you good luck.
We are in the 21st century and supposedly living in countries where human rights and opinions are respected. Yet the oily multinationals can work in league with governments for profit and against the will of the people. Shame on the Irish Republic. Stength to the wrongfully imprisoned five men. May they soon be released.
Nothing surprises me about the Republic's government. If they can build a motorway through Tara then Rossport is just par for the course. Only sustained pressure will force change!

I have been aware of the questionable behaviour of large corporations for many years, particularly worldwide multinationals such as Shell/BP.
In some countries they have totally destroyed the rain forests, even have thier own private armies, who shoot to kill.
All in the name of making money/pure greed/ for inhumane capitalist pigs, who have sold thier souls to mammon.
It is a disculting and sole destroying act by the government. It truely shows the corruption of power and money, and the capitalist state we have turned into. We must seperate corporations and goverments....one only has to look to amaerica for a shining example, of how it can go very wrong. The greed of corporations is unstopable and we must keep them in check.
Shells behaviour is sickening but to be expected. Fianna Fails is abhorent. They are a government not a mul;tinational yet they constantly act in their own vested interests and the interests of the various monopolies that run this country. They bend over backwards to accomodate big business at the expense off the Irish people and the Irish landscape.
This project must not proceed as currently proposed. It will form a dangerous precedent.
We call on the Irish Government to revisit the issue of the licensing of our natural resources to ensure that the Irish people will benefit from future finds of gas or oil off our coast.

Well said. As a brother of one of the 200 employees laid off by Shell thanks to this campaign I'm curious are Sinn Fein and Labour now going to pay these men's bloody wages and feed their families ? This site is a disgrace. The Rossport 5 are in contempt of court - it has nothing to do with Shell - these 5 imbeciles are breaking the law. Mayo Co. Co. signed a contract with Shell. This campaign is a typical NIMBY reactionary attempt to drag Ireland back to the diddy-I John Hinde days and drive out all our multi-nationals. Why do the loud-mouthed malcontents always get all the air time ? Why not the decent law abiding silent majority of people who work for a living ? I and all my friends have been purposely buying Shell petrol in preference to others to support the company.

When will Shell stop? When they cause the deaths of innocent people, damage our environment and rob our country of Our natural resources. Shell did it in Nigeria and they will do it in Ireland as long as they make money. Did Ken Saro Wiwa & the Ogoni 8 die for nothing? The imprisonment of the Rossport5 is a step away from the murder of the innocent Ogoni 9 and the other 2000+ Nigerian people who tried to stop Shell's devastation. Losing our own resources to a corporation because of the short-sightedness of Frank Fahey is bad enough..but locking up 5 innocent men in the process while the likes of Charlie Haughey roam free is a joke. we are faceing huge eletricity increases, because of shortage and price increase in imported fuel cost, while giving our own resourses away for free. no vaz !

The whole thing is crazy. Fortunately it has received a lot of attention though it needed people getting arrested for this to happen. Of course it will be forgotten, by me as well in a couple of months, so will they get away with it? Would have expected a lot more signatures even for this....
