who rules da planet not us humble humans surely! for when da day comes it will not be multinationals who will fight for are servival but us who make a stand now!
Lets boycott all the Shell Stations and see what happens then! I bet the government will do something about it then... and i'm sure i'm not the first to suggest this. I won't use a Shell Station as long as these 5 men and their families suffer at the hands of those who continue to abuse their power!
I think you've spoiled enough of Ireland - just look at the new Donegal shore developments. Are you acting like English who cut all the forests on this island and spoiled tghe nature badly?
This makes my blood boil We can't blame Shell for the robbery of our resources and illegal jailing of five of our finest It's the traitors in Dublin who should be sent to sea for all time. How can they get away with it in 2005
This makes my blood boil. Those politicians who allowed this to happen should be rooted out and sent to sea once and for all.A full investigation has to be demanded as to who is benefitting from this daylight robbery of the Irish people .
So much for the democratic state of Ireland - a country where we throw our citizens in prison for simply standing up for their rights and trying to protect their families. Shell to sea and even more importantly, free the Rossport 5 who should never have been imprisoned in the first place.
..Shell made reported profits of $5.54 BILLION last month and are investing €900 million in this project with the obvious expectation of further substantial profits..
..pipeline bursts/explosions have caused numerous deaths & injuries to residents in their vicinity in Belgium, Mexico and the USA..
..Shell says it's too expensive to process the gas at sea & it puts their workers at risk..
..OUR government exempted Shell's project from normal planning procedure, instigated no public consultation process, required no independant risk assessment & sought no environmental protection assessment..
..both Shell & Our government, to my mind therefore, have no problem in putting the lives of this country's inhabitants at risk by permitting & constructing this pipeline through compulsion..
..all this to a private company, as a direct result of which FIVE Irish citizens are in jail for standing up for themselves, their families and the wider community, something OUR government significantly failed to do for OUR CITIZENS..
..I will not buy Shell products; I will try to persuade as many people as I possibly can to do the same; I will write to both the Taoiseach & my TD to demand positive action on behalf of the protesters &, as a student, I will also be asking my Student Union in Sligo Institute of Technology to add their collective voice to the recognition of the rights of People over Profits and that the government the Irish people elected represent those citizen's interests firstly and fully before an private company's desire for more profits.
Rape,Murder,Theft,Fraud and you get out on bail.Speak your mind and stand up for your rights and get slapped in jail.Bertie has created a banana republic. He rips us off for good measure and he doesnt care what we think.
Acmhainn de chuid na tíre seo a bhfuil faoi ghrinneall na téiscinne agus ba é an feall a rinneadh i bhfad siar a scaoileadh saor in aisce le buíon an bhisigh. Aimhleas mór do mhuintir na hÉireann a bhí ann. Díoladh iascaireacht na hÉireann faoina luach sa bhl. 1972, ach díoladh grinneall na farraige ar thada.
The Government's de facto support for Shell is an absolute disgrace. It is no surprise that the Minister who put through the legislation which allows companies like Shell to make windfall profits out of Irish national resources was one Ray Burke. Anyone remember him? He was released from Mountjoy recently.
Watch23 have more sense. Before you put your faith in multinationals think about the damage that has been done to ecosystems around the world from Companies like Shell. Union Carbide, Exxon,Chisso etc the list goes on. The Government is practically washing its hands of the issue. No-one was prepared to help the people down there. Fair play to the men for standing up to Shell. If people didnt stand up for themselves you wouldnt be living in the free country you are living in today.
Watch23, you Shell stoolie, you can't even tell the time! Go and get your mainspring fixed.Corporate banditry is what gives us gas price increases, as well as divestment from alternatives, the Ogoni people were also told that the Shell pipeline posed them no risk, look what happened to them. Muppet.
People should properly educate themselves before sponsoring this campaign - Look at the risks - these people have more chance of dying from plugging in a tv than anythig happening with the pipeline - Remeber the Glen of the Downs - the protestors ended up killing more trees that the motorway - if this goes on much longer 5 people will be responsible for costing us all alot on money in gas price increases!
I don't even live in Ireland, but I am appalled by this behaviour by Shell. You don't imprison people for protecting their way of life - the English don't even do that much anymore.
I am disgusted that our elected government has failed to represent the wishes of its people, yet again. Shame on those who have put commercial interest before people's safety.
It took a long and bloody battle for Ireland to gain her independence so that her citizens would have rights - a right to life, a right to a quality of life, amongst others. Shame on the Irish government for failing to stand by and protect its citizens - I hope it's reflected in the next election. And shame on Shell and any other company that colludes with Shell - we'll just have to vote with our feet in future!
I support the Rossport 5 100%. It's about time people started to reclaim what big business and greedy governments have tried to steal from under our noses. This is OUR country, not Fianna Fail's or the PD's or Shell's.
New Orleans shows how little assurances can be trusted. If the local people aren't convinced they have the right to protest & block this development!!!
The fate of the New Orleans levees shows the likely outcome when assurances are given by vested interests that accidents won't happen: 'Whoever invented the aeroplane also invented the air accident'(Paul Virilio)
