It is a disgrace to the government of Ireland when men who are trying to stop a project on their land that could potentially injure or kill an innocent are thrown in jail for protesting and protecting their land. Is this not a democracy?
Nothing and no one can make us a victim. A man may fall many times but he won't be a failure, unless he says: "they pushed me!" Keep up the Spirit, Rossport 5, and SHELL will go TO HELL!
The difference between what's happening in Ireland and what happened in Nigeria is one of degree but not of kind. If 5 citizens of good character end up in jail then something's gone wrong somewhere. Wipe the slate clean and start again.
The only bad thing happening here is everything. This stinks to high heaven Bertie, who's getting the backhanders now that Lawlor's not around?
As an Irish citizen and Vice Chair of the London Irish Green Group, I am appalled at the government's cowardice and mendacity in the face of corporate greed. Be warned - Captain Boycott also thought that he was untouchable in Mayo!
Absolute disgrace from the government to allow multi-nationals to cut corners with peoples safety unnecessarilly. How dare the government imprison the innocent for thier own past mistakes.
The government has sold its soul to Shell and is trying to sell ours.
Beware of the thing that is coming! Did ye think to conquer the people, or that might is greater than a mans desire to be free! Ye that have tortured and bullied, ye that have plundered and raped! Beware! beware of the risen people, for we will take, what ye would not give.Connaght no longer lies in slumber deep! Maigheo abu!!
Shell has a cheek! They are in the process of closing down ALL their stations in Ireland causing unemployment yet they expect us to allow this dangerous pipeline in our backyards!!
No way Shell, u are messing with the wrong people.
I am appalled at how the irish Government has treated the people of Rossport and Ballinaboy in relation to the proposed on shore refinery. I took time out of my summer holidays to visit the area and speak to the local people.
I fully support the request to revisit the licensing of natural resources and the independent investuigation into the health and safety implications.
