Dear Tom, Why don't you tell anyone about Xenu? That's far more interesting than your unschooled opinions about antidepressants.

He should really keep his mouth shut. I find the more I listen to him, the more disguisted I am that he is shooting off his mouth about things he knows nothing about. I truly feel sorry for Katie Holmes. She is definately doomed if she stays with him.
#98

Kristina said 06/24/05, 10:30 pm (verified)
Yeah I highly think it's time for him to move on past his couch play and get on with his life. I think the funniest thing to happen to him was being sprayed in the face and seeing him glare at the guy like he splattered his face with acid (which would have been funnier) was just hilarious. SHUTUP ALREADY TOM! We don't give a shit about you and Katie Holmes. Some of us have real life problems and other things to deal with without constantly reading about your bs in the mags or news everyday. Jackass!

It is irresponsible for Mr.Cruise to dismiss serious medical conditions such as post-partum depression as a condition requiring simple diet and exercise. He continues to repeat the fact that he has helped 'friends' wihout drugs, which, according to him, "only masks the problem, and does not provide a cure." When confronted (as with Matt Lauer) with the flip side of the issue - that people have lived happier lives thanks to medication - Mr.Cruise becomes defensive and dismissive. It is sad when a celebrity takes on the role of medical professional. His suggestion that Ms.Shields carreer has nose-dived and she is no longer "happy" is arrogant and displays his lack of class. My sincere hope for Kate Holmes to be weary of what she is getting into.

Tom Cruise is SUCH an arrogant, pompous person. Did you see his interview with Matt Lauer on 6/24 on the Today show? Ultimately, he's dangerous because someone with all of his celebratory power might be believed, esp. by people who are ashamed to be on antidepressants and don't know any better...people who are MDs and PhDs must debate him and put him in his place. Poor Katie - I hope she doesn't get sucked into this cult, too.

All I can say is Freak!!! Tom Cruise's choices for saying things, not to mention doing things in public recently have been ridiculous to say the least!!! Hats off to Brooke for talking about her Post Partum depression in public. Plenty of women have this and they take it out on their kids. (Remember the woman in Houston who drowned her 5 kids?) Nicest thing I can say about him is I believe the aliens in his latest movie have possessed him. And, that's even before he did this movie, cause after Nicole, the choices have been crap!!!
#49

Matthew said 06/09/05, 7:41 pm (verified)
What an odd thing for Dr. Cruise to say. Certainly when he was getting his medical degree and then continuing on to become a psychiatrist he learned about the chemical imbalances that cause depression. And he must know that if you don't have a chemical imbalance then an antidepressent (whether an SSRI like Paxil or an MAOI or whatever) won't work for you. The fact that it works for a patient shows a patient needed it. What? He's not a psychiatrist? Well then I'm confused, why does he think he has a right to publically state his uninformed dangerous opinion?

Bravo to Brooke for opening up about such a sensitive subject. Tom Cruise needs to get a medical degree before he starts taking pop shots at prescription drugs, especially those for depression. May we remind Tom that his hero L.Ron Hubbard committed suicide . . . that's right, the sci-fi writer who made up Scientology actually killed himself. Maybe a dose of Paxil would have saved him. Shut up Tom! I hate banning things, but I'll make an exception this time . . . all Tom Cruise movies are banned from now on in my house. "War of the Worlds" is only loosely based on the H.G. Wells book anyway. They should have called it something else. I'm not going to see it, and my copy of "Top Gun" is going in the trash!

Where does he get the gall!! Apparently, in Scientology seeking help for a personal problem is not condoned, but abandoning your wife of 10 years and immediately proceeding to parade around with another woman, having an affair with someone that could be your daughter, showing total lack of respect for someone else's choices and speaking disparagingly about things you know nothing about is OK. Hmmm...don't think I'll be singing up for that cult anytime soon

Becky said 06/07/05, 7:11 pm (verified)
I am glad that Ms. Shields received treatment that worked for her, and I deplore Mr. Cruises' vicious comments - they were unsettling considering the number of people who hang on his every word. I can only implore you to remember that it is we who make these people celebrities! We need to stop giving them so much attention and credibility. They play make-believe for a living and feel the need to tell us how to live, how much of our tax dollars should be spent for their causes, and what lifestyles we should accept. How about we start elevating teachers, police officers, firefighters, doctors, nurses, neighbors, familiy members and co-workers, etc. to the level of respect we seem to reserve for celebrities only! The world would be much better off.

I am outraged and sickened by Tom Cruise’s ridiculous comments. He needs to go back to worshipping his 1960’s science fiction writer, Ron Hubbard and leave the medical advice to the experts who have gone through years of schooling and hands-on experience to understand the human body. It’s not easy having children – it’s physically and emotionally draining – and your body can play pay very nasty tricks on you once your hormones have gone haywire. Brooke is doing a great thing – sharing her very personal story in the hopes that it will give another woman suffering from this depilating problem the courage to seek the help she needs so can get back to fully enjoying her children. I applaud Brooke – what a wonderful person. I just help Katie Holmes wakes up and smells the coffee before it’s too late!!!

I normally don't waste my time on "celebrities". But this issue could really save women's lives. Scientology has been waging war on true psychiatric help for years and years. Bottom line people, seek medical (including psychiatric) advice from your physician, not from celebrities. I also applaude Brooke for bring attention to this problem so women know there is no shame in it.

Tom, only after you've live through 9 months of pregnancy and only after you have delivered 8 or so pounds of squirming human flesh from a tiny opening in your crotch, do you have the right to tell a woman what she should/can and shouldn't/cannot do about post-partum depression.
#11

Corrine said 06/06/05, 1:07 am (verified)
I've suffered from depression since I was 10 years old (I'm now 34). If it wasn't for antidepressants I would be dead right now. It's people like Tom Cruise that cause people like me to be embarrassed to admit they have a "mental" disease. We were just getting rid of the stigma of having depression and he opens his uneducated mouth and says this. Also, he should check medical journals. There IS scientific evidence that chemical imbalance (neurotransmitters in the brain) can cause depression.
