Self Injury awarness day is March 1st. I beleive this day should raise more awareness in the lives of people around this world. Everybody has a day mother's day, father's day, grandparent's day, and kid's day. Everyone deserves a little more respect on their day. Self injury is not talked about that often besides by the people who do it we should get some respect at least once a year! Most self injurers don't even know that we have a day. Thus is why I am demanding that our day be more prenounced and talked about.

158 1 Mar 2007 - 7:11    Dani : I completely support Self-Injury Awareness Day, being a self-harmer myself. However, the biggest reason I support this petition and the awareness is because of people like signer 156 who, as Dr. R said, shouldn't even be on this site.
157 15 Feb 2007 - 12:27    KD : fo shoz!awareness is always good.
156 1 Feb 2007 - 2:07    Barbara Smith MFT : Awareness, presence, and witness. All are so very important in this very private journey, searching for the relief of pain.
155 7 Jan 2007 - 23:24    Becky Bluecrease : I didn't even know there was a self injury day. I support this fully. Becky x

152 22 Dec 2006 - 0:06    Rachel : I hate how so many people are so un-educated and close-minded about self injury. It's becoming an epidemic and I'm grateful to see that someone is trying to spread awareness.

150 20 Nov 2006 - 12:22    Dc : i cutt. i support this

148 24 May 2006 - 6:05    Kaylee : I support this petion because it recognizes me and alot of my friends.
147 8 May 2006 - 21:12    Karren : I agree with you.
146 21 Apr 2006 - 0:35    Dr. R : I support this petition. It is also extreamly sad to see some of the comments made by folk who clearly should not be on this web site. Self Harm (or whatever you call it) is one of the most misunderstood of all psychological problems and deserves and indeed demands proper recognition and clinical input. We need to shout, indeed scream at the political folk in order that funding and proper treatment is made available by professionals who know what they are talking about and understand the patient with a little bit of love - or is that so difficult?
145 19 Apr 2006 - 8:31    Yay Cutters : I support this petition. I say stop trying to stop you ****ing morons, let cutters cut themselves and beed to death. Your a waste of space and pathetic. I celebrate your wanting to die and your awful trials at it. Keep on cutting.
144 15 Mar 2006 - 14:05    Christina : I support this petition. I think it is so important for people to understand how a self-injurer feels and that we're people too. I am a cutter and there are so many people who don't know how to deal with me. I think raising awareness of this issue would be a huge step in the right direction.
143 20 Feb 2006 - 1:50    Amy : I support this petition.
142 18 Feb 2006 - 22:24    molly matan : I support this petition because it needs to be supported. One of the most painful journeys in one's life and very few understand.
141 16 Feb 2006 - 8:02    Bekah : I support this petition. I'm glad someone is trying to make people actually aware of SI Awareness Day.
140 7 Feb 2006 - 13:40    Kerry : I support this petition. I hid the fact that i was self injuring for 10 years, 10 very difficult years. Many children, adolesents and adults out there would find much relife if there was not such a stigma around the subject.
139 3 Feb 2006 - 10:38    Audrey : I support this petition.
138 3 Feb 2006 - 10:37    Lynn : I support this petition.
137 3 Feb 2006 - 10:34    Courtney : I support this petition.
136 9 Jan 2006 - 0:55    Alyse : I support this petition.
135 29 Nov 2005 - 23:27    James : i used to be a cutter because i had depression. when people found out i cut myself a lot of people bullied me for it, i think it is a good idea to raise awareness because most people dont realise why people cut themselves
134 23 Oct 2005 - 20:13    Thorfin : I'm French.
133 29 Sep 2005 - 8:45    Jessica : I think awareness day is a good idea, not to give glory to cutters but to seriously raise awareness, its becoming a major issue on jr and sr high schools and the more awareness the better
132 7 Sep 2005 - 21:40    Sarah : I'm from the uk, and yes people do know about it but they only know from that they have heard which is hardly ever the truth. People need to be made more aware and be told the truth!
131 7 Sep 2005 - 5:25    Michael Jackson : Can I touch you?
130 4 Sep 2005 - 4:25    Rachel : I'm from the UK, and although there is quite a bit of awareness, there is virtually nothing to help the people who do self harm or for their family/friends. This needs to be changed, there should be much more help available, which we can get through awareness and more research into self harm. The NHS should really think through the fact that anyone under 18 who attempts suicide and is brought into hospital will go to a children's ward. How does that make sense??
129 29 Aug 2005 - 1:57    Beth : I'm a cutter, i dont want help right now, that does not mean i wont want it or need it in the future or that others dont want it. be aware of your surroundings, things arent so peachy afterall are they? x
128 19 Aug 2005 - 8:01    Marissa : Awareness regarding Self-Injury NEEDS to be raised throughout the USA. I feel that everyone--ESPECIALLY the youth of America--need to know the truths to Self-Injury, as well as the lies. Facts need to be explained, and lies need to be forgotten. There seems to be a National Awareness Day/Week/Month for just about everything out there, but National Self-Injury Awareness Day is not a well-known one. This day needs to be more well-known, so that we can make the growing problem of Self-Injury more well-known.
127 16 Aug 2005 - 21:40    Lyndsey :
126 16 Aug 2005 - 9:36    Heather : Awarness most definantly needs to be raised in the world, it seems like such a shock to so many people they have no idea what goes on around them. It just needs to be a little better known to the world other then the SIers so we can be more fully accepted into society.
125 15 Aug 2005 - 19:57    Alison : I'm fron the UK and my experience is that a lot of people, especially teenagers (even those who don't self injure), are aware of self harm and self injury. I think, rather than using the day to raise awareness (although that does need to be done), it should be used primarily to dismiss myths and rumours about self injury. One of the fears I have about raising awareness is that it may give the idea to people who would otherwise never have done it. However, awareness does need to be raised - people talk about other problems people have all the time, self injury is rarely/never mentioned.
124 5 Aug 2005 - 8:35    Lauren : I agree with this all the way. There should def be more awareness of this, so ppl understand the seriousness of SI. We (SIers) deserve a day like this.
123 3 Aug 2005 - 3:34    Mags : i totally agree with this, i think that it should be something way more talked about but not by doctors but by poeple who have recoved or are trying because they no more then any doctor will ever(unless theyve been there). Also it should be targeted around the world, not just USA!, Canadians cut to, i no i am one.
122 31 Jul 2005 - 2:56    Sasha : I know that, since I'm not a cutter, my words might be taken the wrong way, so I'll try to be careful. I think that there should definitely be more awareness about the problem of cutting or other self-injury and especially about how the issue can be addressed. Some of the comments on this petition seem to encourage cutting -- that is not good. I have known several people who hurt themselves and I am all in favor of an awareness day to help people, but let's not treat this sarcastically, lightly, or as if it were an attention-getter. Self-injury is no joke and should not be treated as such.
121 30 Jul 2005 - 11:31    Erin Wright : There are a lot of cutters out there. If we can raise awareness, then maybe more people can find the strength to stop.
120 30 Jul 2005 - 2:39    schahauna : people should know that there are people out there that hurt them selfs because it helps others not to do it.
119 26 Jul 2005 - 4:47    Alease :
118 22 Jul 2005 - 9:37    jess : people live their lives pretending this issue doesnt exist and it does... more people need to be aware...more people should know... more people should care
117 22 Jul 2005 - 5:00    Leane : People should be aware its out there. And SI'ers need to feel like they aren't alone. Take care of your citizens, especially the ones who are too weak to take care of themselves.
