im a recovered self injurer and im proud of my self, and i tihnk that if people were more educated on the subject then i wouldnt have 100 people coming up to me everyday asking me what happened to my arms, i think its a good idea to have a day and educate people on how it really is becoming a problem in our society
i'm a cutter and i had no idea...we had a day..i think it would make it alot easier for people to come out and seek help if more people knew how serious it was...and weren't so quick to judge!!!
I think it's quite sad, that just a few people know about it. I didn't knew before I started. I don't even know if we in Germany have a day like this.
I personally feel that the awareness for the causes and reasons for self-injury should come to light for more Americans. There are so many people who know a self-injurer, but probably either do not want to admit that the signs are there, or don't know how to deal with it. Like Anorexia, this is a pretty taboo issue and is also a recently new "epidemic," and people need to be educated about this. Thank you!
This is for a good cause so all you other people out there who think I'm ****en gay, FUCK YOU. This person is only trying to help and you shoot them down with a magnum. What the hell is wrong with you people? I think this is for a good cause, and all you dips who signed it saying crap like "get a life" or "who gives a shyt" are juss helping this cause for the awareness.
My friend used to be a cutter, and I knew her problems, knew how she felt. She poured her heart out to me, and to everyone else out there who are cutters, I feel for ya, keep on hanging on, dont let go.
I used to cut myself, and it's not a pretty thing....My friend who is so much better than she what she is now is a self-inflicter and i wish she would stop. Personally, I think all shes doing is trying to get attention because shes a ****en POSER. Seriously, she has nothing to cut herself over. But to everyone else out there, I wish you well, find a way to make peace with your problems.
Blessed Be.
....Yes I'm Wiccan.
i am not sure what to think about this whole SI, but i know that if people are hurting themselves, it's for reasons that they obviously are too scared/embarrassed to verbalize. i am not one to SI, but i know someone who is and she is a beautiful person with a huge, wonderful heart... and i pray that she can get the help she needs through her family, friends and this. you don't have to agree with WHY people who SI do it... just know that there IS a very serious problem and try to empathize with them. We need to be able to point them in the right direction for help... not ostercize (sp? sorry) them. love them... love you Ang!
I'm sick and tired of SI being joked about and taken lightly. People talk about suicide and eating disorders, self injury is just as serious of a problem.
I never knew until this that there was a day.
There is help out there for all you who think cutting is the only way out of your pain. It's DBT. Find a counselor who can provide you with that kind of therapy.
As an ex SIer, I know your state of mind. My heart goes out to you. Stick in there, you'll get through to the other side if you can just hold in there awhile longer.
I agree with this idea, we shouldn't have to be ashamed anymore but, I must say sending this to George W. Bush is NOT going to do much good seeing as state governments are responsible for most of their own public awareness stuff not the federal. But as a former self injurer..I will support this petition anyway
I found out about SIAD a few weeks before SIAD this year... and its like it should be recognised and should be understood by people and not simply swept under the rug and forgotten about.
it happens and i hate it when people sit around and joke about it like it is some sort of illness made up for their amusement. "bunch of pussies" is a jerk and if you are going to talk ****, at least leave out the grammatical errors. You're not in first grade anymore.
although i am not american i am participating in this because if the states recognizes this day maybe canada will too. it is very important to start talking about SI. schools talk about eating disorders and suicide why does no one want to talk about SI if it would help people?
i hope this makes some kind of difference because teens these days are going out of control with self harm, and i know i was one of them. i hope for the best
I think people don't really know what it is.
They just think we are freak, or that we are mentaly
ill. It would be great if the could know the truth.
SI need's awareness, it's not our fault we hurt ourselves.. ppl dont even know much about it which is why we can raise awareness and show them we rnt invisible anymore!!!!
dont hep em why help someone who wants to hurt dem selve bit of a div i mean how stupid just tell em to stop doin it and get or il have to harm them...lol jks support it
I'm supporting this. People need to know what it is. People are not only classmate who will think it's sooo cool and rebelz. People are alos teachers and parents and for them it's very important to be informed
i did know about si day...and i do wish that more people knew about it...i am so sick of all those people making stupid jokes about si...and i hate how it has sort of become a trend...its like being sad is a good thing now..
I find it amazing how many parents have no idea that their child is self-injuring. It's important to raise awareness... so that the signs can be recognized and help can be provided. I support this petition... this is an issue that is growing at such a fast rate that it really needs to be addressed by society.
I have SI'd for 30 years off and on. Yesit is real and has nothing to do with the stigma of gaining attention. It is a way to survive abuse for me.
I agree with Ashley:
"I support this because of the rude comments that other people (who don't understand) make rude comments about SI."
People make comments because they are afraid and ignorant of the facts. They're scared and don't understand. I think this is a wonderful idea. But I think you might have trouble with people making comments about this on the day. I support gay rights, and there is a day of silence, for all the people who can't say that they are gay because of the discrimination and so many people make stupid comments then. For all of us, though, I hope this succeeds.
i think this is a good thing. if we talk more about it people wont be so scared to come out and ask for help. if people understand SI then we woodnt get made fun for doing it. and people could get more help! this is great!
I think it would be a good thing for people to know more about why people hurt themselves. Maybe those who critisize and automatically lable will understand that not everyone is like them and deal with problems and depression in other ways. Maybe people will realizes its not just a cry for attention.
i think an awareness day would be great! maybe it could educate people so that when someone finds out you are a cutter, they don't automatically label you a freak. sure would be nice for me.
I think it would be good for people to learn more about the issue. That way they don't think it is JUST for attention. Not everyone does it for that. People need to know.
Im a cutter and i never even knew there was a day i think its a great idea because maybe others can understand instead of criticize and it wont be so hard for others to receive help if they know theres others out there!!!
I think itz important for people to realize that there's an awareness day...however...personall y...I still wouldn't be talking about it except with my closest friends...
How do most people slit their wrists? I think SI is wrong but I guess some people find some sort of comfort in self injury. All the best to those who struggle and whatever issues that may be a burden.
I think we need more awareness to show that self-harm isn't attention-seeking, and we shouldn't be judged just because we choose to wear our scars on the outside.
More and more people should know about self harm. However, I worry that it could be used wrongly, mainly for attention, especially by people in the public eye. I'm glad there is a Self Injury Awareness Day, but I also hope that it is properly explained, as half explanations could lead to some people thinking that SI is not serious, and doing it "for a laugh".
I didn't know there was a self-harm awareness day. I believe that more people should be aware of self-injury but this has to be done in a way that doesn't attract negative media attention as it has done in the past.
I have very mixed feelings about this issue. Self affliction is real...and many people should recognize that..but its also an art... i happen to be an artist...I paint with my blood so to speak...si is an emotion..a trance you go into just like an artist does...i dont show people my "art" but many people do... it depends on how "famous" you want to become for your "art"! Im speaking in medaphors here but you all get the point... my favorite quote is "dying is and art, like all things...I just do it especially well" When i SI i feel like Ive died..then i am reborn..Blood is life...blood is eternal..why not share your blood...see your blood...feel your blood! i may sound kookoo but this is what i feel!
Although I am a cutter.I never knew there was a day. That's kind of lame. Why would you want to flaunt your self injury issue just so people will pay attention to you.Personally I'd rather no one know, and it be a a secret thing.Don't tell me,next there's going to be a parade for self injurers, with floats depicting people cutting..geesh.
I had no idea about us haveing our own day, i think its good and should be talked about and acknowledge within the general public. I'm in the same situation as are a few of my friends and they havnt heard of this either
I've had my own issues with si in the past, and I have a dearly cherished family member who's going through it now. Yes, more people should be aware of the prevalence of si and of ways to help those we love so much.
i have alot of friends who are in this position and i think this day should berecognized because it could help the people who need it and warn the ppl who dont. I LOVE YOU TAMBRE!!!
