The purpose of this petition is to get support from the commutnity in building a skatepark in the Turks and Caicos
A Skatepark is a designated area specifically built for the use of BMX Bicycles, Skateboards and Inline Skates. These sports are rapidly growing and are almost as popular as mainstream sports such as baseball and football.As a matter of fact at least 90 of youth have or have had a bike, skateboard, Ripstick or inline skates. Riding them gives the youth of today an alternate sport outside of the “team” sanctioned sports. Meaning it is a something our youth can do individually. Riding and skating also helps keep kids occupied with something to strive for rather than getting in trouble and breaking laws. Currently thre are more than 500,000 skateparks world wide. Which is a total larger than those of football fields.Also a skatepark can also bring many tourists to the Turks and Caicos Islands.A estimated $50,000,000 USD is spent on skateboarding,competitions, skate tours, boards and others parts, and other skateboarding related things alone. Also, many people travel just to skate in certain skateparks. For example, the Black Pearl Skatepark in the Cayman Islands, this has impacted their tourism industry alot making about over $500,000 Cayman Island Dollars in a year(A cayman dollor is 25 cent more than an American dollar).Also, Hotel occupancy has raised since their skatepark was built,with the hotel nearest the skatepark having the most occupancy.Contest can be held which passively teaches our youth good competitivity.
