How about instead of making smoking illegal, we keep it legal, but allow non-smokers to shoot smokers for self defense? It's f*#*ing moronic that these idiots are allowed to smoke outside buildings at school, outside restaurants, etc. and that people who don't want to inhale their nasty smoke have to do so.

Cigarettes should be illegal. For those that cannot quit, they should be by prescription only. Keep them out of the hands of teens (the largest group of beginners) and make them harder to get for those that smoke . . .
I support this petition, because I'm tired of my parents and grandparents habit killing me. None of my friends can come to my house, because they have trouble breathing, and I get accused of smoking everyday at school, because all of my clothes smell like cigarettes. I have no choice about the cigarette smoke, because I'm only 14, and I have no where to go. I'm tired of my life being negatively affected because of their habit.

To try to make smoking cigarettes illegal is ridiculous. For one, so many places in the US have already banned smoking in public places. So saying my smoke if affecting you is a non-issue. For two, do you know how many BILLIONS of dollars the government makes off the sale of cigarettes and taxing it???? They will NEVER get rid of something that brings in SO much money...ever. For three, I can't stop laughing at how people are saying things along the lines of "yeah, make it illegal, so people won't do it". Hey geniuses, look at all the other drugs that are illegal. I support this petition. Why are the tobacco companies still allowed to be making billions of dollards off of killing people? It's the number one causes of death and it is preventable if nobody was able to get cigarettes. I personally know how hard it is to quit but am now 4 years since last smoked. If the supply was taken away I would of been forced to quit. It was the hardest thing I've had to do in my life. I was so addicted since age 13 and both of my parents smoked as I was growing up. So many lives are ruined by someone else being able to make lots and lots of money as a result.
I think that not only the US should do this, but Canada too. Face it smoking is bad for everyone, so they should do it everywhere in the world. Smoking should be banned because it affects those around the smoker. It is no longer a personal freedom then, since the smokers choice to smoke affects those around the smoker. In other words, your right to swing your fist ends where my face begins. I started smoking and I wish I never started. It is unacceptable for smoking to continue to be legal. At the very least, it should be taxed and regulated so much that the tax money could pay for any damages smoking causes society and individuals. This money could be put towards research for cures for lung cancer, etc.

As a smoker, I feel that be best way to get the US to quit smoking is to do it a generation at a time. The current age to legally purchase cigarettes is 18, every year after raise the legal age by one year; making anyone 17 or younger never legal to buy and everyone that already smokes, happy. You can\'t just pull something that is part of someone\'s life out and expect everyone to be happy about it. Everyone knows how prohibition turned out. As far as smoking bans for public places, I think it\'s ridiculous. Just make a certain number of establishments smoke free or offer tax rebates to bars that opt to be smoke free. The love of my life and my best friend died 11/21/2007 from small cell lung cancer. He was diagnosed 6/24/2007. Jay was only 48 years old. His parents smoked since he was born so basically he smoked for 48 years.
