Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich wants to install speed cameras throughout Illinois to automatically ticket speeders on Illinois tollways and expressways. These cameras cause drivers to abnormally break therefore making an accident more probable. Many other countries are using them and the majority of the citizens do not agree with them. Perhaps most of all it is time to stop governments from taking one liberty after another away from us. If we are going to going to get a ticket for speeding it should be from a police officer and not a camera. This is important because the police officer gives the ticket to the DRIVER not the CAR OWNER. Issuing tickets to the car owner is not only unfair, but it is absurd because it makes car owners responsible for the actions of others. I have seen people try to fight tickets issued by Chicago's red light cameras when they lent their car to someone else. Ultimately if the car is on camera the owner will have to pay the fine, regardless if someone else was driving. Please help us let those in Springfield know how against speed cameras Illinois drivers are. Look up what the UK and Australia are doing with speed cameras and see if this new revenue stream disguised as a public safety policy is worth all of the civil liberties at stake.
