Andra brought in rules restricting cars to compete in Sport Compact classes to those that have not had a model released with an engine of more than 6 cylinders.

The rule basically says "We dont care what is under the hood, if the body had a version released with more than 6 cylinders, its not allowed"

For example:

VL Turbo Commodores cannot compete because VL Commodores were released with an 8 cylinder engine.

Lexus/Toyota SC300/Soarers cannot compete because that model was released with an 8 cylinder engine.

If you want to put any 'Sport Compact' type engine into a non 'sport compact' car that was released with an 8 cylinder option, then the car wont be allowed to compete in any category of sport compact.

The rule also impacts the PRO level cars that can compete. If someone was either to build locally or bring in from the USA, for example, a full chassis car with the body of a car that was released with an engine of greater than 6 cylinders, the car would not be allowed to compete unless the shell is changed.

The reason for this rule is to keep the pure blood lines of the Sport Compact name. ANDRA believe that if they opened up the category to any make of car body, that overseas competitors wouldnt take the Australian scene seriously.

ANDRA also believe that Sports Compact fans dont really want to see a 57 Chev race an RX3, even if that 57 Chev had a 1200hp 20B under the bonnet.

This petition is to show ANDRA that as a group the Sports Compact crowd dont care what shape the body is, as long as its got a 2 or 3 rotor (4 rotors are okay for exhibition passes though!) or it has a hi tech 3, 4, 5 or 6 cylinder engine, its a good thing!

Sport Compact should allow anything non-V8 to run, regardless of what originally came in the body style. To prevent V8 bodies simply limits competitors and increases cost. A case in point is Aaron Gregory who has spent all his readies to build his 2J powered Pontiac, and now has to sit on the side line until he can get the cash together to buy a body shell that never came with a V8. The chassis would be the same, the aerodynamics possibly better (ie faster), the motor unchanged but he would then be allowed to race. That situation is ridiculous, and should be stopped. It is the motor that matters, not the shell it is in!

I was mistaken with my thoughts on the soarer. Bottom line, if I were to take the crappy buick v6 out of a commodore, get a custom made tube chassis, all carbon body, tubs, and stuff a twin turbo 20B between the rails, you wouldn't let me run it? Telling someone they can't run a rotary powered car in a class dominated by rotaries would be like telling victor bray he couldnt race his doorslammer, its not right, its time to get the act together andra.

I dont know why they are pent up about the soarers, as far as I know, the soarer never came with an 8, while the lexus did, while the cars might have been the same body, they are technically different cars. And add to that the vl v8 didnt come out until some time after the six cylinder model, which would mean, technically by what has been said here, that the vl/t before the v8 option came out could race. I couldn't care less what sort of car it is, as long as it has a jap six, four, or rotary in it let it run, its not as though its going to damage andra's reputation by doing so.

compact should be engine size and limited to 4.0L OHC engines so the toyota V8 could be used

I thought sport compact was about non pushrod motors, not the car itself. Get over your selves andra

dosnt matter what is on the outside, its the heart of the car that counts, we are not V8 supercar fans who think that there street cars are the same as the ones racing, we actually know the bodie is erelavent.

come-on think about this, you dont want to smash all the dreams of vlt owning competitors do you, think of how much money there is in it for every1, eg. perf shops, race tracks etc. thats just shtupid talk, get rid of the ruling, it makes no sense, have u ever heard the saying "if a frog had wings it wouldnt bump its ass when it hops" LET VLT'S RACE >:-)
