I think this article sends the wrong message. Puppy mills are a blight and a travesty. People magazine should be ashamed to allow this kind of story to run.
I am very disappointed in People Magazine for highlighting a puppy mill/puppy brokering as a legitimate business for children. This is sending the wrong message to our youth.
Shame on you! Good breeders never get in the "business" of selling dogs, they are in it for the good of the breed! Cuddlypuppy.com is just another puppymill, breeding dogs that have no business being used for breeding. Making money off of them is sinfull, at the least, and a crying shame to the dog world. I guarantee, if you don't do an expose of puppymills, and the harm that they do to do the dog world, you will be in it bad with real dog people!
It is certainly a good idea for young people to learn to be self supportive, however, it should never be at the expense of another creature. Animals that are made to live in deplorable conditions so someone can pocket a few dollars is not in the best interst of society the society in general. I realize that often the conditions in these places is largely unknown by many. Please allow the other side of the story to be told and educate the public. Thank you.
This is disgusting. With all the dogs in breed rescue ans shelters and you promote a Backyard Breeder. Yes, this young man and his family are Backyard Breeders. People Magazine has just made itself a no buy in my book and I will encourage everyone I know to boycott your magazine. I guess anything for a buck just like most Backyrad Breeders and Puppy Mills.
I would love to know how this young entrepreneur knows who is selling these cuddly puppies to! I won't be buying People Mag unless the other side of the issue is presented. That boy should go help at a shelter or rescue to see the damage that is done from his enterprise.
It would benefit everyone if you would show the true world puppymills - do an expose` - go to the pounds and the gas chambers - show the truth behind the backyard breeder & puppmills!!!
Please show the "other side" of buying puppies on the internet, pet stores, and backyard breeders. Show that you can be a fair and balanced publication.
Thank you
Don't breed while millions die, back yard breeders and puppymills is where he gets his pup's to sell to people. There is no amount of money to make this right.
I think this article is disgusting and makes me sick to see that the future of our country is in the hands of children like this one. Put a stop to puppy mills, and until there are none, adopt one!!!
I can't believe that people magazine would print something like this..it's disgusting. If you want something good to write about..write about the people who rescue animals from puppy mills! Write about the horrific things that these animals go through..shed some light on the what really happens in puppy mills.
puppy mills are gross and anyone who buys a puppy from them is gross!! puppies need to be treated with caring, gebtleness and love from the moment they are born, not shoved into some cage!
PLEASE do not advertise for this puppy mill!!! I work in dog rescue, and I see the other side of this "business". Every day, thousands of beautiful dogs and cats are killed in shelters. People Magazine should do a story showcasing the plight of homeless dogs and those confined to a life of illness, fear, and pain in cages being bred until they literally drop dead. I have been a fan of People Magazine for years, but I can not support any business that glorifies puppy mills!
The fact that Timothy Hampson was heralded by your magazine as a "Teen Titan" shows just how little your magazine understands the horror of puppy mills. It's understandable because, puppy mills are places that are kept hidden by the people that run them. The dogs that are used for breeding puppies for pet stores and internet sales are kept in wire cages their whole lives. They are never let out of their cages. They don't have healthy food and rarely see a veterinarian. If they are lucky enough to be rescued, many times they have to have most of their teeth pulled because they are so rotten from neglect. There are many millers that debark their breeding dogs (cut their vocal chords) so they cannot be bothered by their cries for help.
It is a lonely, painful, miserable life that most people just don't know about. If your editors had ever seen pictures of puppy mills and the conditions these dogs are kept in there would never be an article in your magazine heralding the sale of dogs on the internet.
There isn't a reputable breeder in this country that doesn't ask detailed questions about a potential home for their puppies.
Please investigate puppy mills on the internet. There are plenty of pictures, movies and first hand accounts of what life is like for these dogs. Once you have investigated puppy mills (and backyard breeders) please include an article in your magazine about puppy mills, the rescue world and the wonderful people who save homeless animals lives and the necessity for everyone to spay and neuter their pets.
Thank you,
Catherine Scarano
Think People Mag has really made a mistake, printing that article. Wonder is they now realize how many people truly care about their animals, and hate to see this being done.Betcha circulation falls after this fiasco.
While I am all for being an entrepreneur, this industrious young man needs to find something else to profit from instead of the suffering of innocent animals.
I do not think this creep is an entrepereneur. I think he's running a puppy mill which is nothing short of a horror. What is he doing with so many different breeds? He's making money and I would bet that's his ONLY concern. I am not impressed. I do believe he needs to be put out of business for the sake of those innocent dogs.
You should be writing an article about good breeding practices also as these people are often paying more money for poor quality dogs or "new breeds" (Mutts) than they would from a quality breeder!
I think this is disgusting. Someone needs to think of the poor animals who have no voice!!! Dont praise this young man as he is on his way to becoming what we dread most.
Do your editors even consider the social and moral ramifications of the articles they print in your magazine. Nothing like supporting pain and suffering of these poor little animals. I hae an idea, spend a month as a breeder ***** and see how you like being confined in a 2' x 2' airless pen with little food and stagnant water. Then rewrite your article
Until such time there is an article showing the real life of a puppymill dog. People magazine is being boycotted by our entire group
You would think that People Magazine would be for animal rights instead of against it. You are promoting puppy mills, and I will no longer support a company that does that. How disgraceful, People Mag. you should be ashamed of yourself.
Before this 16 year old was praised for profiting off these poor dogs ,perhaps the writer`s of People Magizine should visit a puppy mill and see how filthy, over crowded they are and how the animals are kept, then try to work with the dogs that were being bred to death to see the problems, with health, how they are terrified and mistrusting of humans they are. Try working with the animals that only know how to reproduce. Try paying the medical bills of these animals that have been born, bred and discarded after the mills "have no use" for them any more. Try explaining to a small child why their new puppy just died or why they had to be put down to health problems or dibilitatting dieases they have.
Visit the Rescue groups that work long and hard working with these dogs behavior issues,or medical problems.
People Magizine should see both sides and see the suffering these animals go through before patting a kid on the back for a disgusting buiness he is doing. Any newspapper or magizine that does this..well they lost my buiness and a large majority of rescue people`s buiness.
Now do a story on the horrors of a Back Yard Breeder and puppymills.
Completely disgusting! I can't believe that "People" magazine isn't more informed than this about such an important issue. Maybe your next issue should feature an expose on puppymills so that people can see where these puppies are REALLY coming from!
Very sad. Puppymills are NOT to be exhaulted or proud of. I've worked in a shelter and euthanized perhaps hundreds of these "mixed breed puppy mill puppies" most who end up with horrible genetic or temperment flaws.
I will be boycotting People Magazine AND telling my friends to as well. For shame!
I am ashamed of this magazine! I cannot believe you would think that puppymills are ok..The young man in this article needs to visit a local kill shelter to see what happens to these poor little dogs..16 yrs old and has a puppymill, horrible horrible, and just horrible...
It is DISGRACEFUL that a magazine as widely read as yours would support puppy mills in this way. I read People every week, but will not be doing that any longer!! You just lost a very long time customer!! What a DISGRACE!!!
What a disgrace! This is nothing short of a puppy mill and you call this boy a teen titan? Instead of voicing his success you should do an article on puppy mills.
Articles like yours make a horrible problem seem absolutely unsolveable. How many more people will now begin to exploit dogs because of your article? Irresponsible journalism at best-at worst you are abetting criminal behavior. Think before you publish. I'll never read your magazine again. This is worse than Enquirer material!
This is yet again another sign that this socitey is in ruins and that humans shouldnt have offspring. I wonder if these puppy millers have ever watched a 8 week old lab mix puppy be put down because there isn't any more room at the shelter??? HMMM??? I thought not. Next time you (People Mag. ) need an article how about print one from a shelter going on about how many homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds etc are without someone to love because of the almighty dollar!
I have been a People subscriber for at least 5 years and the fact that People supports and features an individual who is basically an owner of puppy factory sickens me. Maybe you need to research your findings a little better when you run a story on "Entrepreneurs".
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU MADE MY JOB IN ANIMAL RESCUE THAT MUCH HARDER,WITH PEOPLE EXPLOITING ANIMALS FOR A PROFIT. YOU DONT SAY A WORD ABOUT THE DOGS THAT ARE BORN DEFORMED, whwere do they go??
THINK BEFORE YOU PRINT
How irresposible of people magazine to plug this website. And the idiotic kid is no idiot, he knows where these dogs are coming from. And he keeps them in cages in his bathroom and kitchen??CAN YOU SAY PUPPY MILL!
it is disgusting. I can't believe that a child would be praised for selling off puppies of puppymills. He is a puppy broker. One of the lowest forms of life.
He is selling death!! he is supporting the death and torture of thousands of helpless dogs
I am ashamed that you would consider someone who traffics in live animals as a model for the rest of the population. Please show us you care by giving space to the realities of dogs purchased through puppymills and the hard work rescues do to try to save some of them.
I have adopted two puppy mill discards, and know first-hand the abuse these animals have endured. No reapectable breeder would ever sell dogs in such a fashion, and this young man is doing great harm to a great many dogs. Please include an article in your magazine about the abuse that comes out of puppy mills.
