Please do not promote the breeding of dogs for commercial purposes. Dogs are not objects, but intelligent living creatures. They should not be mass-produced and treated like merchandise. Selling dogs through the Internet to anyone who happens to have a credit card is incredibly irresponsible. Aren't there enough dogs in the world who are bought on a whim and then dumped at leisure?
Had People Magazine bothered to see how these puppymill puppies are raised, and bred time and time again, they would NEVER have run this story. Why didn't you do the research People?
I am disgusted that a child and his family are allowed to make money out of the suffering of animal. But I am even more disgusted that The People Magazine should see this as acceptable, and worthy of print. If they had any Ethics, they would have shown the boy and his family for what they are, puppy farmers. People have been trying to stop this dispicable trade in animal suffering for years, It is not a joke, nor should be treated as one. I am ashamed to have been a reader of the People Newspaper, but rest assured, no more money will be wasted on such an immoral publication.
Puppy mills are disgusting and the people who support them are worse! Homes for these "cuddly puppies" should be screened to see if theses are responsible people buying, or just a passing fancy to them. As for this young man and his mother, shame on you, making money from poor defenseless animals without regard for their welfare.
I am shocked that people magazine would run a story like this. this is horrible. i will cancel my subscription to people magazine and so will the other memebers of my family.
Check out www.prisonersofgreed.org for more information on puppy mills. Promoting this type of behaviour is sickening. Do your research next time. If you want a real story do one on us volunteer rescue workers who pick up the pieces that money-hungry people like this kid create and work tirelessly to educate people about responsible pet ownership. And, please let this kid know how upset people are about his "business."
This is so outrageous!! I do great dane rescue and still have trouble sleeping at night knowing that people are breeding these or any purebreed just for the money and that there are so many that end up in rescues or even worse. PLEASE STOP THE PUPPYMILLS!!!
I think this shows the true greed behind money. People seeling animals just for money. How about an article on all the puppies that die. And what does this young uneducated individual do with all the money? What's next?
If they do not present "the other side" I WILL cancel my subscription! I don't mind them glorifying no-talent adolescent singers/actors but to glorify what this kid is doing turns my stomach!!!!
I'm young and I know if i had a bunch of dogs I'd get tired really quick of all the care - I think that kid is a jerk for thinking he knows how to run something at 16. There is enough pets that are unwanted and too many puppy mills where these dogs are bought from and even I know they are sick people ! He needs to be put out of business and I'll never read People mag again !
I just visited cuddlypuppy.com. One example is Coton puppies at $1475, released at 5-7 weeks of age and claimed healthy with no medical testing information on the health testing of the parents - these are uneducated, uncaring, money hungry, disgusting examples of human beings.
What this child is doing is just plain wrong. Dogs are not "merchandise." Please help undo the damage you have done by printing and expose on puppy mills.
Until there are no more unwanted animals in shelters...ALL breeding and selling of animals must stop. Let's not celebrate the greedy puppymill business!
You HAVE to be kidding me. Puppy brokers? It's obvious to me that the writer of this article has not done the research otherwise they would be doing an article about animal rescue organizations rather than "For-Profit" puppymills.
This is awful !! There is much more to having puppies than the money made, most do not even make any as we spend so much on the health of our dogs and future puppies, you did not ask key questions like ...does he know where all the puppies are ( from years ago)are his dogs health tested? does he make sure they are seen by a vet before leaving his home? does he screen the new owners and ask important questions to see if they are suitable for the breed they are getting? I think all he is doing is contributing to future shelter dogs and keeping the small breed rescues full.
How sad for the dogs.
I saw this on tv one day this is a terrible thing that they do to these dogs. constantly breeding them after they have a litter they don't get a chance to recuperate and they mate them again and again.

This young man should be stopped not praised for selling these animals. All he is doing is getting a commission on transfering the animal from one bad situation to another. No where does it state that he scans the people and checks their references or even gets refereneces for that matter. Most of his animals probably come from Puppy Mills where the conditions are horrible. The buyer would not be aware of the conditions these puppies are born and raised in. He should be stopped immediately.
This is just a lesson on using others to turn a fast buck with no regards as to how it affects the lives of the dogs, hardly a golden lesson for the youth of America. Shame on People Magazine for giving this teen a pat on the back instead of a kick in the pants.
This business is nothing more than a GLORIFIED PUPPY MILL, glorified in PEOPLE magazine!! I work in a shelter, come watch us euthanize all the thosands of unwanted puppies just likes these and WRITE A STORY ABOUT THAT! I will never read another copy of People magazine. A responsible periodical should do RESEARCH and check facts and SOURCES before ever allowing this to go to press. The author and editor are both at fault. Maybe the child doesnt know better, but People magazine should.
This isn't good now we're helping a kid exploit poor defenseless animals, there are way too many unwanted pets. Puppy mills are the worst kind of cruelty. They have to be stopped!
i am disgusted by your praise of this young man. how about honoring the people who volunteer at shelters and have the task of euthanizing the dogs that do not have homes because of people like this dog broker. i notice no mention of his ability or expertise in screening buyers to see if they should own the dog or ANY dog! i wish i had a subscription to your magazine so i could cancel!
A very important person to me once said "If I can at least get one of my friends to realize this is wrong, I will feel better". This person is my best friend who has made me realize buying from pet stores, and or breeders is so wrong when there are thousands of pups to adopt at the pound or shelter. People need to learn that this is cruel.
I feel sorry for honest, dog loving people who may purchase a dog through Cuddlypuppy.com and then the dog has health problems. Getting a dog is a long term commitment and should never be done online!
People Magazine should be ASHAMED of theirselves promoting KIDS to sell small dogs. This is NOT admirable and he is NOT equipped to handle the care these poor babies need - MOM & SIS moving cages ? What the hell is that ! There is not one thing good about that story except it will encourage OTHER KIDS to think they can make money - they are nothing but puppy BROKERS and those are the same people who let animals SUFFER and live in PAIN ! God - I HATE hearing stories like that - The mom and son should both be arrested for impersonating dog lovers.
A responsible breeder knows where all of his/her dogs are till the end of their days and accepts responsibility for those dogs should they ever need a new home. Responsible breeders do not contribute to pets in the shelter/rescue environment because they ARE responsible. This young man is not taking responsibility for his actions, he's gleefully raking in the profits from selling "cute" puppies for outrageous prices. Reputable breeders generally charge far less for puppies than this young man AND accept responsibility for said puppy. He needs to be educated and NOT applauded for his efforts.
A month ago a recused 3 minuture poodles used for breading from a puppy mill and they don't know how to act or be socail. They all have the potental of being good dogs, but it will take time.
This is the most irresponsible way to sell puppies. Buying a puppy leads to a life time commitment that should be carefully thought out for the wellbeing of the dog. Not a few spontaneous and impulsive clicks on a copmputer mouse!! The difference can mean a life time of misery for the dog.
Are you out of what passes for your minds? Or is it a "slow-news" month? Your promotion of puppy marketing puts me in mind of the 17th Century, before the establishment of the first SPCA in New York. DISGUSTING ands thoroughly under-researched piece of work.
This article is irresponsible and unresearched! Why doesn't this young man and his family do dog rescue for awhile and maybe, just maybe he'd realize that selling dogs like this is not the way to find loving homes for pets.
There is a difference between responsible breeders and puppymills. Not only are puppymills indiscriminately prooducing way too many puppies, but the pups and the breeding dogs are often kept in miserable, cruel conditions. While I don't know about this particular instance, no matter how well he treats his dogs, it doesn't change the fact that there are already so many unwanted dogs and too few people to adopt and foster.
It is shocking and completely unacceptable that a publication as reputable as People Magazine could promote such a cruel and inhumane "business" in their magazine. Please tell the true story of the horrifying practice and conditions of puppymills in a future edition.
This enterprise is a disgrace to the rescue community and to responsible professional breeders. With pet overpopulation what it is, no one needs to be breeding indiscriminately to add more dogs to the population.
I am a lifelong reader of your magazine, now I am questioning my choice. To showcase a CHILD being supported in the puppy mill industry by your staff, which has historically been supportive of anti-cruelty projects and groups is horrendous.A "breeder" doesn't do it in their kitchen as a pet hobby. How can a 16 yo child handle the intricacies of breeding. Especially breeding of small dogs which have high instances of problems during pregnancy, whelping and birth defects! He obtains his stock from other millers who are replete with very questionable animals to begin with! How many shelters & rescue groups are taxed when these dogs end up at our doorstep needing medical & emotional care? Far too many.
I am disgusted at this article and demand that you print opposing opinion.
It's time to take the puppy mills seriously and shut them down. It's a heartache to both the owner and the dog. I rescued a puppy from a pet shop that was known to purchase from puppy mills. If the pups didn't sell, they would be put down. After four years, the pup I saved went blind because of cogenital glaucoma. He lived a full life. Puppy mills are inhumane and should be illegal.
I would think that People magazine would have been a bit more responsible in the running of this story, by researching a bit further into the horrors of puppy mills and breeders such as this. These people don't care about the animals, it's simply a way to make a buck. Shame on you. Will you run names and faces of drug dealers next? They make lots of money!
This is just not on. His mother should teach him right from wrong, he should be banned from doing this type of thing, he is supporting puppy farmers, well he more or less is one!
Thank goodness there are more people out there that feel the same as I do! This teeager should be stopped. When a breeder is willing to seel to someone like him, it says that they don't care where their dogs go and who gets them. Reputible breeders WANT to know where their puppies are going and that they will be well cared for. Stop these people!
People magazine is encouraging the horrific practice of puppy millS? Just wait till all the activist celebrities hear about this! SPAY, NEUTER & RESCUE! Don't contribute to the problem!
I think it is very sad that People would endorse or support something like this by running an article about how this boy and his mother are making money off letting animals die. Why doesn't he promote animal shelters and help those puppies get adopted vs. selling them to better his bank account? Very sad!
See the otherside of puppymills...the females forced to breed and birth with no vet care. Their teeth fall out; their bodies and spirits broken. It is nothing to praise a shameful breeder for. Shut down puppymills!!!
If all teens went into the puppy selling business, imagine how many thousands or millions of puppies would either end up in shelters or themselves would bear puppies that would end up in shelters. Do we want to continue adding to the pet over population problem?
I cannot believe a national magazine would publish something like. Being aware of the issues with puppy mills and the burden people like this put on hard working rescue organizations.
"Entrepreneurs" like this are more interested in money than they are in breeding healthy animals. Look what has happened to cocker spaniels, Irish setters, dalmations. Look at the breeds that have genetic problems. Why encourage an environment that fosters inbred dogs? Responsible breeders screen their dogs to reduce genetic faults in a breed. Greed dissolves that resonsibility.
Dog and Cat (and other aminal 'pet' breeding is irresponsible while MILLIONS of animals are killed in shelters and pounds or left to die as strays in the wild. Please address the other side - the side representing care and respect for animals over profit.
