DO a good article of all those irresponsible breeders who are caught with abusing "their" animals. Educate your readers about pound puppies and breeders in it for the money which results in overpopulation of dogs and abuse. Stop the craziness of puppymills--it should be a crime to breed animals in this manner.
It strikes me as a no-brainer that after effectively offering a no-cost endorsement of puppy breeders that People Magazine should run an article about breeders who are willing to sell to purchasers sight-unseen (generally not the most reputable or caring breeders) and the high availability of outstanding companion animals for adoption.
Also, anyone note that the "guarantee" cuddlypuppy.com offers is really a rebate on the purchase of another puppy through that site if something terrible happens to the first puppy?
If this boy were selling human babies over the internet to the highest bidder he would've been arrested rather than applauded. Shame on People Magazine for promoting this horrible cycle of puppy mills/puppy brokers.
Disgusting. How about an article on teenagers helping save animal lives instead of bringing more inocent babies into the world and making money off of them. This is sick.
i'll bet his mother is heping him. big money is to be made frim the uterus of a helpless dog. shame on her for using her child to produce more dogs in a country that is killing 6,000,000 a yr. in shelters. i thuink you need to redeem yourselves and show the other side.expose puppyills in you magazine. shame on you .
Just yesterday, Nov. 1, the SPCA of Texas seized 110 dogs from a "small breeds" puppy mill in Kaufman County. These practices don't need to be encouraged, they need to be stopped.
GGGRRRRRRRR There is nothing "CUTE" about puppy mills....maybe People Magazine should send their writers out to actual Puppy "farms" and get the "real" story on "cuddypuppies"
It's pretty deplorable to glorify the side of Puppy Mills in such way by expounding upon the profits of it. If you would ONLY do a little investigative reporting and get to the truth of such puppy selling sites you will find the death and agony of millions of animals behind the scenes. Not to mention the unsuspecting buyer who ends up with a genetically defective or environmentally unsound dog. Seek the truth and you will found a world of greed, death and selfishness underlies this industry. That industry we in the know call Puppy Mills.
I just heard about this on a message board that I frequent. I cannot believe PEOPLE Magazine would publish something such as this. I will NOT be purchasing PEOPLE any longer. All you are doing is promoting puppy mills!
This is TERRIBLE!!!! You should do a story on puppymills...oh wait you just did in a good light!!!! SHAME ON YOU!!! Breeding dogs is not and should not be for financial gain, it should be for the love of the breed and the desire to improve upon it. You messed up bad this time People!!
There are so many animals that do not have homes, thousands are put down daily in shelters. This needs to stop!! Everyone loves puppies then they turn into dogs that people just throw away
Puppy mills are wrong and cruel. I think of my pets as people. Would you want your kids raised in a mill under horrific condtions and sold more or less to teh highest bidder?!
Disgraceful example for young people. This lads parents should be ashamed of themselves and so should the magazine that promotes this vile animal trafficking.
M N-J
Please run an article about puppymills and the problems inherent in websites such as this. Too many dogs end up in shelters after being sold to people through impersonal means such as these. That guarantee isn't worth the paper you'd print it out on - too vague of wording, too little protection of the owner. And that's IF there were any decent guarantees - I saw no reference to certifications for any diseases. If the puppy DIES, you apparently get store credit. Worthless, and only promotes puppymills.
A puppy mill, pure and simple. He, along with all mills, should be shut down. There is no such breed as a "teacup" because these are dogs bred simply to make them small. The health problems that arrise are more often fatal for the poor dog. Shut him down and educate people!
I appreciate that People magazine wishes to promote young entrepreneurs, but for such a respected publication to support such irresponsible treatment of animals is appalling.
Unfortunately most of these breeders probably do not perform any health testing of their breeding stock, thus eliminating bad genes. Also, are these animals spayed/neutered? This is just adding to the overpopulation problem.
UNBELIEVABLE! What are we teaching are kids. That money rules over the welfare of animals!!. These people should use there website for rescues if nothing else.
Puppymills are horrible and sad. Hopefully the young man will learn this. How about rescued puppies ...How about an article about puppymills and rescue?
Breeding dogs is to gain improvement of the breed and is not a for profit business with serious breeders. This reckless business you featured will likely send many dogs to their death for poor planning of placement and little to no health testing of the dam and sire and no genetic info gathering to select appropriate breeding stock. Shame on you for not doing your research before publishing something so reckless!
This is just 1 step below dog fighting. No concern as to where the dog is placed, or the quality of the dog. People Magazine should have researched puppy mills.
This kid is an idiot and should not be commended for doing something short of prostitution!
Very disapointed in People. Any reputable breeder meets with potential owners and ensures there dogs are going to a responsible caring owner. This is a disgrace.
Please don't glamorize puppy mills. Here in the south, they are rampant, producing puppies with extreme physical ailments, unverified health documents and what's worse, breeder dogs whose feet never touch the ground - only the cages they are kept in to produce more 'product'. What's more - these 'entrepreneurs' are most often selling 'product' unconcerned about what happens later when families learn their new pet - a member of their family - either must suffer physical pain, even euthanasia, and the family suffers financially. Please print an article about the less famous - but just as interesting PEOPLE who care enough to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome all the unwanted pets across our country.
I just read this article yesterday and couldn't believe this kid is promoting his own puppy mill. Everyone should boycott his website and similar ones.
People Mag. Editors, for purposes of balanced journalism if nothing else, how about finding a young person who makes money (or, better yet, volunteers his/her time) doing something that gives back to the community in a way that isn't self-serving and damaging. This is not a "novel" idea - this young man is just doing what other animal brokers do. Nothing new here - it's just because he's young and uninformed. I bet if he KNEW THE FACTS, he wouldn't be doing this, nor would you be printing such stories if you were also informed. OR, did you run this story in order to get this response and bring light to the subject of puppy mills? If so, you're already planning to run an article showing the horrors of the results of what this young man does and how if effects these puppies and those folks in rescue organizations later on.
Thanks for your consideration of placing an article in your magazine which offers some balance to this young "Titan's" misguided efforts.
I am a veterinary technician, we get People magazine at our hospital. I was immediately appauled when I saw this article. Living beings should not be sold at random on the internet to the highest bidder! Go to a shelter on euthanasia day, you will not only see perfectally healthy mixed-breed dogs put to sleep but also many pure-bred dogs put to sleep someone paid "good money" for but have too many beharvioral and health problems because of some "breeder" out there wanting to make "good money"because of greed. These people don't care what happens to the lives they bring into the world. It makes me sick.
PEOPLE magazine needs to recognize that encouraging kids to profit off innocent animals is WRONG! What about doing a story about teenagers who volunteer at Shelters and with rescue groups? Those are the kids they should be highlighting.
Absolutely shameful. There are enough dogs in shelters without needing to add to the problem. I shudder to think of the poor dogs who are breeding needlessly.
Does this "teen titan" guarantee the health of his sales? Does he take back unwanted animals? Are his animals neutered to prevent unwanted animals that crowd shelters? The Human Society of the United States (www.hsus.org) estimates that animal shelters care for between 6–8 million dogs and cats every year in the United States, of whom 3–4 million are euthanized. This "teen titan" in contributing to this problem. Has he ever visited a kill shelter to see what he is contributing to? Laud him? No way! PEOPLE magazine---you should be ashamed of this article.
It is SO IMPORTANT that people learn about Puppy Mills. If they really understood what they're all about, no one would ever support these animal abusers. Please allow an article on this important topic. Thank you.
I can't say I expected more from People, I never considered them better than a gossip rag. I didn't know until now that I could think less of them. Shame on you!
This is a puppy mill pure and simple...perhaps a very well disguised one, that somehow your magazine felt was OK because it's a kid who is making money. That is not an excuse to condemn these poor animals to a life of health issues, abuse or worse. Wake up folks; this is just what the radical animal rights people love to see to make their case about how greedy breeders are only interested in making money off the dogs, rather than the reality of responsible breeders attempting to breed out problems by intelligently choosing dogs that are tested for known health problems, and researching pedigrees. You should be ashamed to even consider this article for publication! I fully agree that an article outlining the horrors of puppymills be published to show what the world of back yard breeders and millers really consists of.
This young man certainly does not have the life skills necessary to make informed decisions about marketing puppies. Money is the sole motivator! There are plenty of reputatble breeders for prospective buyers to work with in the purchase of a puppy. Shame on the parents of this young man also!
This is just disgusting! Our country spends billions of $ every year, rounding up, warehousing, killing and disposing of millions of unwanted dogs and other pets. For People to condone this type of trash is nothing short of irresponsible.
