I rescue these little dogs from shelters after they have been abandonded there. Please don't help the people who fill these shelters with unwanted pets.
I have rescued first hand many dogs from breeders/puppy mills, and the horrid conditions of these pooor animals is unjustifying! Please make ALL aware of the sad reality regarding puppy mills and the many breeders killing these dogs!
Puppy mills are a source of sick, poorly socialized and ill-bred dogs. Cuddypup is a front for multiple puppy mills. In this day and age of trying to reduce animal suffering and the surplus pets, how can a knowledgable magazine like People place anything which might remotely encourage this activity. I am sure you must know that your magazine article will be sited for the next 20 years at this business establishment (unless they go out of business first -- hopefully).
P.S. Did you go to the site and hear the Christmas music? No one reputable promotes bringing puppies in over the holidays!
With all the business scandals like Enron how can you promote a young man and praise him for profiting from overbreeding of animals. People magazine has a responsibility to print an artical about the many VOLUNTEERS who have to rescue and try to re home these poor dogs.
Maybe this young man, his mother, as well as the editor of People Magazine, should take a walk through the halls of their local animal shelters. I bet young, Mr. Hampson will recognize some of the sad and pitiful faces he helped fill those shelters with!!
Puppymills are a horrible, uncaring, cruel business. Just as bad is the most likely source of these puppies and that would be backyard breeders who are only in it for the profit, not for the betterment of the breed standard. Look at the ages of these puppie. No self respecting breeder would allow a puppy especially a toy breed, to go to a new home at such a young age. Just think the person who purchases these puppies will be the third "owner" of many of these babbies. Not only are they most likely poorly bred but like puppy mill dogs have been taken away from their mothers way way too early for even the most fundemental of learning from mom to have been taught. Then to be placed in cages to await a loving home? How very frightening to say the least. Maybe young Timothy should visit a local shelter.
It is ashame that PEOPLE magazine encourages making money off of suffering animals rather than encourage volunteering time to help those animals that are homeless.
I am saddened that your magazine has just endorsed the business of puppy mills by holding this young man up as an admirable example. There's nothing admirable about the suffering that the puppy mill business causes to its innocent, living 'merchandize'
This is another sad example of greed with the animals paying the price. No doubt the puppies get good homes, but what about the mother dogs who are bred again and again and again??
Puppies from puppy mills are full of disease, parasites and the breeders are not concerned about health issues, just the money they hope to make. The puppies suffer and those who are uneducated enough to purchase from a puppy mill as they watch their 4-legged friend waste away and die from improper breeding, no vetting and lack of maternal contact and human contact. Often times these puppies are taken away from their mother at 3 weeks of age. It's all about the profit I guess in the mind of the puppy miller.
Puppy Mills do not need the help of People Magazine to do their evil work. Why don't you interview rescues and shelters for your magazine? These are the people who are trying to save the lives of the animals these evil people produce.

I must say that I am APALLED that your magzine would run such an article. This is nothing but a puppy broker promoting and selling dogs from irresponsible breeders and puppy mills. Do you even have any idea what a puppy mill is? Maybe you should take sometime to research that and maybe next time you won't be so quick to publish this junk and encourage such senseless acts of animal cruelty.
Not only is it sad that this boy is being recognized and heralded for his "accomplishments" in the business world, it's pitiful to me that an influence as large as People magazine would promote the purchase of animals in such a blind, ignorant way. What kind of person acts so irresponsibly as to buy a puppy, or dog, for that matter, that they've never seen or met before? I see no better way to increase the number of animals sent to a shelter...
As a true dog person I find this disturbing and offensive. NEVER should a dog be bought on an internet pet store. I hope that people learn, hopefully not through heart ache, that dogs should be gotten from responsible breeders or pet rescues.
You PEOPLE made a very unwise choice when you honored a business that supports puppy mills. What were you thinking? Better get back to really important items, like what really exciting things Paris Hilton has been doing. (just kidding)
There are thousands of dogs being euthanized and exploited everyday. I find it completely irresponsible on People Magazines part to glamorize internet breeders and puppy mills. In turn, I think they should take responsibility for their actions and publish an article educating people on the devistating conditions of a puppymill and the importance of adopting a pet from an animal rescue. Stop exploiting these animals. The public needs to be informed!
I am not surprised that PEOPLE magazine would print this type of article, but they should allow an article that educates PEOPLE about the horrible state of "MILLS".
People Mag - Please do an article explaining the dangers. Surely, someone there has pets, and can understand the severity of this situation. Thank you.
I am glad to sign this petetion because a thoughtful article in People magazine may be effective in educating the public about the horrors of puppymills.
ANIMALS ARE BRED FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE BREED, NOT FOR MONEY, WHICH WAS WHAT THIS ARTICLE WAS ALL ABOUT, SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE MAGAZINE FOR LETTING THIS ARTICLE BE PUT IN YOUR MAGAZINE, I WILL NEVER BUY PEOPLE MAGAZINE AGAIN
I think it was in bad taste and extremely irresponsible of People to publish about and endorse puppy mills. Do you have any idea what that kind of inhumane life that is for the dogs??! Do you care?
Obviously not, and that is extremely disgraceful and disheartening.
Please allow a article on Puppymills and rescue to be published in your magazine.. I belong to a rescue and I know how many poor dogs are in need of a good home.. Puppymills need to be shut down as those doing this do not care what happens to these poor dogs after they leave them... Thank you
This is disgraceful to promote this teen and his deplorable treatment of animals. Puppymills are terrible places for dogs. This should never be featured in People Magazine.
Recently, our breed rescue acquired 21 dogs from "entrepreneurs" such as this. I think it is only fair to tell the other side of the story and tell your reading public where those cute puppies REALLY come from and the conditions that many of the parents of those cute puppies live in daily.
I work with German Shepherd Dog Rescue in Houston, TX and yes it is sickening to see backyard breeders or puppy mills making money off these poor animals when they are little - only to know that we will be trying to save many of them further down the line as they grow up and the cute puppy becomes a everyday adult dog later. So sad!
I think this is an atrocity in our society. It is on the same level as slavery. These animals offer unconditional love and in return receive abuse. I work with a rescue organization and have seen so many injustices to these beautiful creatures. We HAVE to make it stop. Pet stores should not be allowed to sell these animals and anyone convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abuse should have to pay a heavy fine that goes toward helping the animals they abused and NEVER EVER EVER be allowed to own an animal ever again. The public needs to be educated about how much work responsible pet ownership is and how important it is to spay and neuter your pet and to get your pet in a manner that does not support puppy mills. This breaks my heart. I wish I could save them all.
You should be ashamed of yourself. This only shows how irresponsible parents and their children are like now. Please go to your local animal shelter and see what kind of horror these poor animals go through only to be destroyed because they are not "Cuddlypuppies" anymore
I was disgusted when I read this story and am canceling my subscription to People. How irresponsible and stupid to promote this teen "enterpreneur" who is nothing more than a greedy puppy miller.
As someone who has rescued a rejected animal from a puppy mill, I am apalled that you would encourage and applaud such a terrible thing. Are you even aware that the "imperfect" animals from these places are simply killed? It is unbelievable that you would condone such behavior.
Your article glorified one of the most despicable animal cruelty acts in this country! This boy is NOT an entrepeneur, he is nothing more than a link in the chain of animal abuse, selling puppies that come from deplorable conditions, misery, neglect and abuse into potentially the same fate as their parents! These dogs go to anyone with a dollar, complete with all the health and behavior problems associated with puppymill puppies and the majority of these pups will be dumped into shelters or euthanized once people can no longer deal with their problems. Please, in the name of fair and impartial journalism, follow this with an indepth article about the misery and evils of puppymills so that people might be shown what the misery is truly like for the dogs these people sell.
I have subscribed to your magazine and so has my grown daughter.
I feel that author should have researched this fully before publishing what people will think is a lucrative business. Believe me, miniature dogs may be cute, but the health issues are many, one of which is being so small that there is no dogfood they can eat except canned which in a very short time rots the teeth. This is a minor one; it would be nice to know that someone who wants to make money puts the effort into having the breeding pair tested for many genetic problems in dogs, which include luxating patella, clefts in the mouth, liver shunts, heart failures and murmurs and many more.
Rescue is full of pets now that people like this boy and his family have bred and call themselves :Breeders" but take no responsibility for their future health issues. Owners turn dogs in everyday as once the money is made, no one can get in touch with the original breeder. It takes more than making puppies to be a breeder and spending money on healthy breeding stock and genetic testing is one of them. Now, millions of people will want the "new" dogs of the year and pay the money and get a total mess.

Wow, and his mother is helping him do this.. Where is her head? How could this magazine support this issue, they really need to see what is behind these puppy mills. How unfair to all these puppies!
DISGRACEFUL--what were you thinking? Apparently you weren't thinking at all. Certainly you should be thinking about it now and take steps to educate your readers.
PEOPLE magazine: shame!! I checked out the CuddlyPuppy website...puppies marketed like products. PEOPLE, please publish an article on the truth about puppy mills and apologize for your lack of judgment in honoring this teen and his mother.
This is gross and shameful neglect by a parent who would allow a son to do this. It is digusting and cruel. This teenager does not care for these animals only has dollar signs as a goal. Hope this "puppymill" is shut down. It would be good if he had to work and give the profits to an animal rescue group as punishment for his greed.
With all of the attempts to curb the apalling puppy mill industry, you publish a story idolizing someone for their initiative at the expense of live animals!! Shame on you!!!
Entrepreneuship is a valued trait in our country. The billion dollar pet industry is proof that americans love thier companion animals. With entrepenurism comes responsibility. One must do what is right. Aiding the irresponsible actions of puppy mills is not "right". I respect your magazine and what you try to pervay but believe you made an error in running the story of the teen entrepenuer and his Cuddlypuppy.com site. Please, now, you do what is "right" and run a feature on responsible entrepreneurship and pet ownership. thank you.
don't you think there are enough dogs going into rescue already without you making out there's a business to be had from breeding and selling pupies!!!
Please make a difference to STOP puppymills instead of support them. This horrible form of animal abuse is fueled by celebrity pet purchase and buying puppies as a trend. YOU can reach out and make a difference by informing your readers of puppymills and of animal overpopulation. Help save lives, instead of causing the deaths of innocent dogs across the country.
As the founder of a rescue group that gets dogs & cats out of a 'dog pound' the day before they're put down, I beg you to educate the public on the appalling practise of dog breeding for profit. We try to rescue whom we can, but each month literally hundreds are put to sleep due to being abandoned. This practise must stop.
THIS IS ABUSE OF ANIMALS!!! YOU ARE CAUSING MORE PAIN AND SUFFERING OF INNOCENT ANIMALS BY YOUR SLEEZY BUSINESS. YOU ARE A PUPPY MILLER. LOOK IT UP AND YOU WILL SEE FIRST HAND HOW BIG A LOW LIFE YOU ARE.
