With all of the dogs that are on death row and in fosters/rescue groups, you publish this article on this kid making money off a puppy mill! This is disgusting. I will never buy People magazine again.
This is ridiculous. Look on PETFINDER, you will find hundreds and hundreds of WONDERFUL dogs who need homes!! We don't need some kid selling dogs from backyard breeders over the internet. People magazine should not be proud of this, and should re-consider their decision.
Totally disgusting that your magazine would promote this type of $$ making.
This boy and his parents should find another outet to make money other tan live animals who will suffer in th long run!!
Doesn't People have researchers for their stories? I've seen them honor the noble people who work diligently in shelters and with rescues and yet turn around and promote and support an operation such as this? Go back to gossipping about celebrities and those who really make a difference in people's lives. This is a horrible story and one day this young man will learn the real world of class action lawsuits.
How can you promote a business that uses dogs just as form of making money, when there are 1000's of animals put to sleep everyday & abig share of these come from puppy mills & backyard breeders..
SHAME ON YOU !!!!
puppymills must be stopped. There are already TONS of unwanted dogs in this country... Please adopt those and stop these so called breeders from profiting from their cruel and senseless actions.
I find it absolutely disgusting that your magazine would promote a young boy who sells numerous puppies for income. He obviously does not have a love for any breed inparticular and is only doing this for monetary gain. When dog breeding is done correctly there is no gain. High quality food is provided, proper veterinary care and the dogs are shown regularly. In the future if any of his puppies place require rescue I PRAY this boy able to house and re-home the dogs he is responsible for selling.
I can't believe that People would praise a kid for selling off puppies by way of a puppymill. He is a puppy broker for profit. One of the lowest forms of life. The fact that People supports and features an individual who is basically an owner of puppy factory is ignorant and irresponsible. Maybe you need to research your findings a little better when you run a story on "Entrepreneurs".People Magazine has certainly lost my respect for responsible journalism!
Quite a few people have already figured out that they can make money breeding and selling dogs. Responsible breeders rarely make money selling dogs. To tout this young man as an "entrepreneur" for starting up his own puppy mill seems absurd. Perhaps promoting a teen who is an entrepreneur who contributes something to the world would be more admirable.
I am very disappointed that Poeple Magazine is promoting and even glamorizing puppymills. Puppymills should be outlawed as they are misery camps for sick and mistreated animals. I sincerely hope that your magazine will research this issue and do a follow up piece on the dark side of these "businesses." I also hope the mother of this young "entrepreneur" will educate her son and herself about the wasted lives that couple puppymills.
This kind of disgusting practice should not be promoted in a positive light as you have done in your magazine. I would urge you to re-think your position to publish this type of a article in your magazine.
These puppy mills are the major contributor to birth defects and genetic ailments that we see so often in every veterinary clinic around the country. I am sad to say that I have seen hundreds of animals with such conditions as hip displasia and demodectic mange that can be prevented with more responsible breeding. I hope that for the sake of all of those innocent puppies that people magazine will take a more positive role in helping to educate the public on these careless and money hungry so called "entreprenuers", and help defend those that cannot defend themselves!
Please let people know that puppymills are a terrible thing for dogs and people both. This sort of one-sidedness in dealing with someone who does not care about the animals he sells is inhumane.
This is an outrage. I have been a long time reader of this magazine and cannot believe that you could promote puppymills. A reputable breeder is more concerned with the health of the dogs and their puppies and where they go. Nine years after my first litter, I am stilli n contact with each of my puppy owners. THAT is commitment to an animal. Does this boy and his mother plan to follow each pup they produce from birth through death? Are they keeping health records? Are they doing clearances? They are nothing more than a puppy mill and I am very disappoointed at People Magazine for printing this.
How sad. Horribly inflated prices for CKCS, and where does that "6-8 lbs." adult weight range come from? Try 18-20 lbs. for a start. I sincerely hope this way to sell dogs can be shut down!
Totally unacceptable behavior. What is this family thinking other than how to make a quick buck.
I've purchased my last People Magazine. You disqust m!!!!!!
I do Italian Greyhound rescue and it is people like this that continue to keep dog's lives as horrible as possible. Does this person even think about the animals rights before making money. I enjoyed reading People magazine until I read this article and can honestly say I will never purchase another people magazine again.
This is absolutely disgusting, that a young man is receiving PRAISE and CUDOS for supporting and profiting from the cruel, decrepit and disgusting puppymills that rescue groups and dog lovers have been trying to shut down! This young man should be jailed for animal cruelty, not hailed as a Teen Titan. PEOPLE needs to take a serious look at the type of people, or should I say SCUM they are promoting, as well as righting the wrong it has committed by publishing this... you have just condemned thousands of dogs to die as a result of the business this article will likely produce.
This is what rescues all over the country are trying to prevent-puppymills. A kid getting into the business at the age of 16-just what us rescuers need-one more idiot to mess the pet overpopulation up even more. Rescues have a hard enough time shutting down the puppymills in existence now, let alone there being another one opening up. This kid needs to get a life elsewhere. And the mother is a disgrace.
I'm very disappointed that People magazine ran this article....puppy mills should not be promoted and the heartless "breeders" shouls not be applauded. They should be punished.
People Magazine, you've obviously made a big mistake by not properly researching this article and glamourizing puppy mills and backyard breeders. This kind of "entrpreneur" is disgusting, no matter what the age or the reason that drove them to doing it. It's time to set the record straight and acknowledge your grievous error in judgement!
I'm hoping that eventually this 'kid' will realize there's more to breeding dogs than profit. If done properly, there is NO profit. Ask ANY reputable breeder and they'll tell you.
This is appalling.Although not a respected publication, People magazine is widely read. It's a shame that the magazine holds animal negligence as an ideal for teens to aspire to. The facts about puppy mills and other inappropriate breeding venues is NOT new. It is very old, signified by the fact that for over a decade, almost no pet stores sell dogs anymore. The public won't buy dogs there because it's clear that such dogs only come from puppy mills. No reputable, responsible breeder would ever sell to cuddlypuppy.com or any such site. Shame on People magazine!
There are enough puppy mills out there that people are trying to shut down without your magazine appaulding a teenager with no understanding of where these pets go, no home checks, no consideration to spay or neuter. There are SPCA's all over North America and Britain that are full of unwanted dogs. Please consider doing an artdog buying, adopting and dog selling
Having been involved in Rescue for many years, I am curious as to what kind of guarantee they offer. Will they refund money or take dogs back if they have a hereditary medical problem? Will they take back dogs that turn out to be "unsuitable"? Or will they just add to the load Rescue Workers have by encouraging the "Impulse Buyers"?
People Magazine, shame on you! I suggest you take a trip to any local shelter and look into the eyes of any one of the THOUSANDS of animals that get put down every day because they have no place to go. You have done a huge disservice by publicizing and praising an "entrepreneur" that profits from contributing to the animal overpopulation problem.
irresponsible breeding leads to an overabundance of impure pets ... its that simple ! Like anything else - ALL pet breeders should be required to be licensed by the state . And the writers for People Mag. need to do better research !! or at the VERY least , they need to do a retraction by the editor !! JMHO
I am very upset that any reputable magazine would promote puppymills. I do hope that your magazine will do as much to publish articles that expose these businesses for what they are and show the horrible lives that the animals there live. People pay thousands of dollars for inbred and sick animals. I wonder what comsumer reports would have to say about this sort of business. It's certainly not the best buy for your money. Not to mention the horrific lives that the animals live. I do wish that PEOPLE would do more to educate the PEOPLE and less to promote one greedy little kid and his mom.
It's time for PEOPLE MAGAZINE to do an in-depth article WITH PICTURES on the horros of puppy mills. This young man is doing great harm at an early age, with the support of his family, no less.
Please run an article on pet adoption through rescue shelters, etc. Wanting a Himalyan cat I searched the internet and was lucky enough to find one at a local animal shelter, one that wasn't wanted, and one that didn't cost me hundreds of dollars. She turned out to be a loving well-behaved pet and if I ever want another pet, I will seek one from such a place again and never buy one that comes from a puppy mill or a similar place.
Responsible breeders carefully screen their potential puppy buyers. Responsible breeders put alot of love, effort, time and money into raising dogs that are of breeding stock, obtaining necessary health clearances, providing proper health care and nutrition as well as properly caring for and socializing the puppies and matching the pups to the best family possible. No responsible breeder would sell their puppies through a third party, that is what puppymills are all about. Puppymills are all about making money, and the dogs are the ones who suffer. Visit any shelter or rescue organization and see how many puppymill dogs are on death row. Internet breeding factories should not be praised, they should be boycotted.
Timothy Hampson is NOT a good example for anyone. He is a greedy, uncaring person to make his money on the lives of dogs. Rescue groups and just plain old caring citizens are doing their best to STOP puppymills and you promote this kid as doing something good. Wake up, find out what's really going on in the world today and try to right the wrong you did with this article. I am a representative of Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network and I strongly suggest you talk with people who rescue puppymill dogs and dogs which have been in shelters and find out how emotionally traumatized these dogs often are.
I think it's a disgrace that any magazine puts puppymills in a good daylight. They don't care if the puppy's healthy or goes to a good home, they don't care about the condition of their breeding stock or inbreeding. The only thing they care about is the money and this at the cost of the animals who lead a miserable live.
People Magazine should not be supporting teens that help contribute to puppymills which propogate the breeding of puppies which most often end up put to death in local shelters or burden the honest breeders with rescue groups. To my horror I find out from this cuddlypuppy website that this boy attends my nephews and nieces highschool. As a member of several local Houston dog clubs I am ashame that this wholesale puppymill is operating in our backyard.
PEOPLE! PLEASE visit nopuppymill.com and publish some of the TRUTH about these poor dogs! Take a look at HOPE!! Take a look at EMMA!! MY GOD!!! EDUCATION is what the public needs and I guess you need it too! Please consider ALL your readers interests before publishing TRASH like this. No more PEOPLE Mag for me or anyone I know! Think before you do PEOPLE!! Very disgusted in your choice! I am sure there are other teens out there that are doing something good for the community that should be mentioned instead of someone like this!
I'm sure this is what we need - an outlet to buy more horribly treated, and unhealthy dogs. We need to STOP puppy mills and STOP back yard breeders. This kid isn't an entrepreneur - he's part of the problem.
8,007 animals were euthanized in the month of June, 2004 in the Dallas/Ft Worth area alone! Encouraging Puppymill start-ups is IRRESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM and serves nothing but to increase the suffering and death count at our shelters!
To promote the breeding of animals for the sole purpose of selling them for profit is a gross misdirection of the impact your magazine carries. You owe it to the hundreds of thousands of animals that are euthanized each year because of animal overpopulation to grant equal space to an article on rescue & adoption.
This teen should have been afraid to go public with what he is doing. Its just another form of puppy milling gone technical. I am glad its out in the open so we can shut people like this down and prevent others from thinking about it. I can't imagine how many other people are now thinking of doing the same thing to make a few dollars.
