Same on People Magazine editor! This type of internet selling is just a middle man of a puppy-mill!!! Why would you choose this person when I'm sure there are "REAL" entrepreneurs out there that you could have chosen with a "REAL" love of what they do and NOT just for the money as obviously this young man's only interest! IT IS A PUPPY_MILL PROMOTOR and YOU PEOPLE MAGAZINE are now associated as a Promotor of PUPPY_MILLS! ! !

Puppy mills are a disgrace to the nation. Also that this helps them sell more puppys on the internet with out consideration for the welfare of the animal. Really not a good type of business to be in.

I'm amazed that you'd condone the actions of a teenager and his mother to sell puppies from their "puppymill" on a website where they have no idea who is buying them. It's just for money, can't you see that. I think you were completely irresponsible letting millions of people read about how "wonderful" this teenager is for adding to the horrible plight of animals in these kind of mills.

These people must be stopped. I wish people would stop buying pups from pet stores. This such a horrible practice. There are enough dogs in shelters that need homes, this indiscriminate breeding needs to be stopped ! And calling this kid an entrepreneur is just disgusting.
#2184

Terri Clements said 11/02/04, 6:59 pm (verified)
Could you please have someone write these articles who is educated on animals and their abuse. This should not be promoted in a positive light as it serves to validate an unsavory practice of animal suffering and abuse.
#2183

#2182

Patty said 11/02/04, 6:58 pm (verified)
I'm extremely disappointed that you would publish a story "glorifying" this boy and his business of selling poor, innocent animals to anyone willing to pay the price. He has no regard for the animals or their pain and suffering and does not care at all WHO buys them or how they will be taken care of (or not). This is a slap in the face to every animal rescuer in this nation and there are thousands of us. We toil daily to SAVE these animals and get them into loving, caring, forever homes. We screen these applicants and even do home visits to insure the safety and well-being of the animals we place. If, for any reason, a family can't keep the animal they adopted, we will ALWAYS take the animal back and find him or her another home for life. There are THOUSANDS of animals euthanized every day in this country (and others) and this ‘business’ of his only adds to those numbers and the misery of those animals. Please don’t add to the pain by encouraging others to make money the way this boy has, it is WRONG and unconscionable. Thank you for taking the time to read this, we in animal rescue appreciate it. We also hope that perhaps you will ‘showcase’ the other side of the story – the one that lets people know there is a huge crisis in this country and animals are dying every single day for want of a home. There are already too many animals and not enough homes.

#2179

While many thousands of rescuers and responsible breeders are trying to educate the public about puppymills and puppy brokers, it is very disheartening to see your magazine promoting this young puppy broker as an example to our young people. Apparently your staff could benefit from education on the real horrors of puppymills in the USA. Shame on you for your lack of investigation before holding up this young "entrepeneur" to an unsuspecting public!!

#2175

Nancy Reeves said 11/02/04, 6:58 pm (verified)
I have read People for years. I find it difficult to believe that People would support puppymills. That is what this teen is doing. I'm all for teens being entrepreneurs, but this is unbelievable. Puppymill pups are treated poorly and those of us in rescue keep trying to educate people about puppymills and have to frequently save dogs from this life. It's a shame you have supported this.
#2174

#2156

Lisa Meyer said 11/02/04, 6:55 pm (verified)
Your magazine should cover a story of the true atrocities that go on at puppy mills. Yes, they make money. But many innocent animals live in filthy, unhealthy conditions to make a buck. And, those are the lucky ones that are healthy enough to breed. The poor animals that have visible defects are left to starve since they can't be sold.

Susan Edwards said 11/02/04, 6:54 pm (verified)
What this boy is doing is not about enterprise... its about misery. And his lame excuse for an application is nothing but a ruse. As long as he sells these dogs, he is supporting puppy mills and back yard breeders and causing more and more pet over-population. This boy and his mother need to go volunteer at some shelters and rescues and see the heartbreak of the thousands and thousands of homeless, abused and neglected dogs and cats dying everyday. This website is a very bad idea and if you print that article including Timothy Hampson, then it will be a crying shame. Furthermore, I will boycott your magazine and all of your advertisers.

#2134

Jennifer Stark said 11/02/04, 6:51 pm (verified)
This article glamourizes success at all costs and "to hell with the consequenses" mentality. Are these breeding machine dogs producing healthy pups - free of epiliepsy, hip/structure problems, etc? How does he handle the situation when a buyer no longer can keep a puppy or grown dog - it happens quite often (check your local shelter)!!! What responsibility does this business take for the puppies produced???

I'm sure the teen entrepreneur angle and the cute name for the Web site were beguiling to some misguided assignment editor, but one would have thought there still was some adult supervision at the magazine. Lousy judgment, lazy reporting, dunderheaded decisionmaking. Nice job, People, another black eye for journalism. Just every once in a while, how about doing more than drive-by "journalism" and taking the easiest possible route to a piece? Now, let's see if you have the guts and ethics to go back and tell the real story about what a crummy decision you made and why this really is a tragic story. Here's hoping you try to prove this dreck isn't representative of the work of all the so-called journalists at your so-called magazine.

Unbelievable. Make your magazine more valuable by doing more research on puppy millers before glorifying such disgrace. Take the time to visit shelters and then think about how those dogs could benefit by someone glorifying the efforts of shelter employees saving dogs rather than some kid making a dollar on helpless animals. The shelter is where alot of the dogs people like this expolit end up. Does anyone care about them?? or just about making the quick buck?? there's you an article.

Hopefully People will look into the other side of internet or regular puppy sellers, they are just looking at the $$$$ and not what a legitimate breeder is trying to do...to improve the breed, to test for anything that can bring genetic defects or inferior dogs into the gene pool. Encouraging and promoting some one like Timothy Hampson is just adding to the shelter and rescue population
