To promote what can only be described as a puppymill in your "Teen Titans" article is disgraceful. Breeding dogs of any breed should only be done to better the breed and not to line the breeders pockets with money made at the expense and misery of the dogs. You should be ashamed of yourself for publishing this type of article. but why would I expect any media to actually research something before publishing it?
as a family that fosters dogs until they can be adopted out to good homes this article that glorifies the over breeding of dogs for profit, while others are killed in shlters every year seems to cry out for the counter-point to be printed also. so how about an article on shelters and rescues?
PLEASE for the sake of mans best friend DO NOT promote puppy mill dogs. I am appalled at all involved at People Magazine. Perhaps some of the editors and powers that be could visit a kill shelter then they would have a better understanding of what they are promoting. DON`T DO THIS. Barbara Bergquist
can i pleez fly over and "meet" this kid. i don't have a quiet spirit or bone in my body - so i'd take this 'kid' and EXPOSE him all over his bloody country!!! damn. damn. damn. where can i SCREAM the loudest!!!!!
I am APPALLED to say the least at this article found in People. $799 for a MUTT!!?? Why not write an ariticle on buying responsibly from a RESPONSIBLE breeder and not a glorified teenage puppy miller/broker!
Puppymills and Dog Brokers do not care about the health of the dogs they sell. Responsible Breeders do regular health testing. My rescue dogs are hard to rehome, due to health issues and often undesirable temperments. Please stop Puppymills!
Please do not encourage this young man to be selling puppies over the internet. These pups are coming from brokers and puppy mills....no decent breeder would ever give their pups to be sold on the internet.
Thousands of dog and pups are being killed in shelters for lack of good homes....that's why 25% of shelter dogs are purebreds.
Stop this insanity!!!
I saw a show on TV about a puppymill. It broke my heart! I am shocked that such a large publication as People Magazine would print an article that supports a business that makes money from this sick and cruel business.
When will people stop supporting such cruelty to other living beings? Animals have feelings too and should not be treated like merchandise !!!! These tabloids should first research their sources and get their information straight before promoting such disgusting businesses. :(
Philadelphia, PA put down over 20,000 animals last year alone, in large part due to overpopulation. It's ashame that this is overlooked in today's society all for a quick buck. People Magazine is only encouraging this practice at the expense of poor animals which merely indicates to me that People Magazine is no better than puppy mill'ers- it's always about the bottom line.
Me being 15 i cant belive this sort of thing is being done, the mag should vist one of many puppymills and see how these beautiful animals are kept, they wouldnt like it would they ! What is the fun in bring harm to someone that cant be heard ?
By publishing this article, you are perpetuating the puppy mill trade, which is an irresponsible enterprise, more often than not resulting in tragedy with pups being mistreated or ending up in shelters. Please do not glorify this "profession" in your pages; you are doing more harm than good.
You need to show the tragedy that is the other side of this equation. The tragedy manifests itself in the form of abused, neglected and abandoned dogs. You would do more of a service and probably sell more magazines if you show the negative results of puppy mills.
Teaching children that it is ethically just to exploit a dog just because it is purebred (and even those that aren't, think designer mutts) is horrible. Breed to better the breed through showing, trialing and genetics testing. Don't breed to line your pockets at the expense of the animal and the ignorant family that purchases it.
This is just sick! I can't believe that you approve of this. Puppy mills are wrong and this is what this kid has. Careless breeding of innocent animals accounts for the countless numbers of animals put down every day in shelters across America. There are other more ethical ways to make money. People Magazine should be ashamed to print an article endorsing careless breeding.
As someone who has fostered over 150 homeless dogs I am appalled that you would feature an internet dog business. This kid is no better than the brokers who get puppies from mills to pet shops. If you look closely at his website you will also notice that his helath guarantee is only valid if you feed the puppy vitamins he makes money from!
People like Timothy are part of the problem, not the solution.
Since you have already published kudo's to him in the "Teen Titans" article. Why not do an article showcasing some of the hardworking VOLUNTEER rescue workers who give their time, love and income freely to help the victims of people like Timothy. That would be the dogs!
I hope Timothy educated himself about the cruelty puppymills inflict- both on the dogs they breed and sell, and in general by increasing pet overpopulation and thus euthenasia. Please stop selling puppies!
For shame People Magazine! To encourage young people to make money by promoting the internet purchase of helpless puppymill puppies is disgraceful. You need to temper this article with a view from the other side. A view of the mothers in cages large enough for a hamster, cramped, nowhere to go, no human touch, no warm kisses. They never feel the wet grass on their feet, they never know the comfort of a soft bed. All they do is exist to make money for people like Timothy and his mother.
Give the other side a chance to come out into the light.
Expose the puppymillers for their greed and avarice!
He should come and vist some of us who own the breeders when they are done making money for them. The damage sometimes is irreperable. Their spirits and souls are broken. They cling to you for a pat, a kiss, a hug.
A quick buck? I would rather be broke.
People magazine should visit a puppymill raid. Then follow these puppies through a rescue program. You will never see so many people working so hard to save these little souls. These puppymills, like this kid is running should be against the law. Him, and thousands like him are breaking our backs, not to mention our hearts. He rakes in the money while we break our banks trying to save their little bodies and souls. Rescue people work hard on fund raisers to help cover the expenses. There is never enough money, so a large part of the funds come from donations from rescue workers. Thanks for nothing.
This is a disgrace. Good breeders spend countless years working with their breeds for successful, HEALTHY breading. God only knows from what this child is breeding these dogs from and his mother should put a stop to it. POPLE magazine should never have supported an article like this. A sixteen year old cannot possibly be a responsible breeder.
It is heartbreaking
seeing how many wonderful dogs at shelters need homes.Save a life first! Make puppy mills clean up their acts. Life is about need not greed!
This article is a disgusting exploitation of innocent dogs and puppies and encourages other teens and careless greed mongers to invest in the puppymill industry. I will not be buying People Magazine again.
Pet stores should not be allowed to sell puppies - they do so at such a young age - and there is little to no socialization of the animals as they are displayed underglass.
There are other ways of making yourself some money, without bringing more dogs into the world to be sold by acution, put in other puppy mills, or sold to people who use them or abuse them as disposable objects. Shame on you, People.
Children have no idea as to how a dog should be treated, please do not praise this young man for doing this and exploiting this animals!!!!!!!!!! I will not buy another People Magazine until there is an article on the front exposing the horrors of puppy mills and their direct link to the so called "cute puppy in the window."
Publishing this article was very irresponsible of People Magazine. An article should now be published in the magazine to help educate the public about puppy mills. I don't think the average person realize these mills exist, or know of the suffering these dogs go through, all for these 'entrepreneurs' to make a profit!
dogs or any other pet for that matter, are not just pieces of merchandise to be bought and sold without regard for their well being. While we applaud entrepreneurs, this is not a well thought out venture.
How disappointing that your magazine
could promote this
type of "entrepreneurship" Why not feature some of these puppy mill pups when they are at the shelter, waiting to be euthanized???
Or the shelter workers who have to deal with these unwanted dogs day in and day out???
Shame on you!
I can't even put into words how sick I felt when I saw this story in People magazine! How could you even consider this child for a story? Because he profits off of helpless puppies?!! Obviously he has no concern for these lives. He supports puppymills and backyard breeders!! This Mother is supporting her child to profit off of the pain of innocent lives!! This is just disgusting! I can not believe My favorite.....Former favorite magazine would puplish something as horrible as this. I will never have another subscription to People. So very disappointing!
Please do an article on Rescue. Rescue is what happens to the puppies this "Entrepreneur" and others like send out to people. When those folk decide they don't want those dogs anymore, just where do you think they end up? In Rescue.
I can not believe that People Magazine is supporting these puppy-mills! This is just what we all need - another irresponsible source for the uneducated public to aquire dogs... No wonder we are repeatedly seeing "breeds" suffer the consiquences of irresponsible ownership!
Education is key, I understand it may have been an oversite on your part BUT make mends by education the public on this BIG issue Sonser rescue groups like DAERRS and many others, that could help.
Kindly,
Oly
This whole thing is unutterably gross -- another manifestation of irresponsible journalism. I'm no fan of People magazine -- its general raison de etre seems to be kowtowing to a bunch of extraordinarily egocentric individuals (stars?!) who scarcely need more publicity. The mag's one saving grace is that occasionally -- very occasionally -- it highlights someone of a different milieu who is doing something worthwhile. That's probably what the mag was attempting with this article, but thoughtlessness and lack of sensitivity have rendered it appalling instead.
I am sickened by this profile of a thoughtless child and mother making money off of innocent creatures. Good breeders spend twenty to forty years cultivating a successful (read:healthy) breeding program. This kid is prepetuating the problem of sickly dogs who come from God-knows-what kind of conditions and who go into homes where people are ignorant of the animal's potential health and behavioral problems. Sure, puppies are cute, but massive vet bills and unhealthy, malformed dogs are a tragic "by product" of operations such as this one. Responsible breeders care wehre their puppies end up. Breeders who care also research the congenital defects associated with certain breeds and avoid crossing lines that are known carriers of life-threatening conditions. A sixteen-year-old cannot possibly be a responsible breeder, and certainly not if he sells dogs over the internet without a thought to their futures.
Breeding of dogs is an endeavor that is best done by those that carefully consider the temperament, health, and breed standards of the dogs being bred. Breeding dogs for the money to be made does no service to the quality of the dogs or to those buying these dogs of questionable quality. Buy a pet from a REPUTIABLE breeder that cares ONLY about strenghtening in qu
My wife and I have adopted two English Springer Spaniels which originated in so-called "Puppy Mills". One has severe hip dysplasya and a luxating patella... essentially a three legged dog his original owners wanted to put down because they couldn't deal with his size and health issues. The other is a female born with a congenital heart defect and not expected to live out her first year. She is now four and doing fine on medication.
ANYONE involved in the wholesale breeding of dogs or cats simply for profit or facillitating such practices is NOT an "animal lover" as they'd have you believe.
We welcome dogs and cats into our homes as OUR choice and this decision is as important as wether or not we have children.
We don't randomly breed and sell Human infants (not yet, anyway). We are the species with "higher intelligence", why do we insist on doing this to companion animals?
Persons engaged in indiscrimate breeding, wholesaling, and retailing of dogs and cats simply for profit should be punished to the full extent of the law, including ICC laws governing interstate transport
I am on the board of our local Humane Society. Our facility is forced to euthanize thousands, yes THOUSANDS, of unwanted dogs and cats every year. The people who run these puppymills should be forced to perform this heartbreaking task and the irresponsible editors at People Magazine should be forced to watch.
If you're going to promote a puppy mill as an example of a successful entrepreneur, then the least you could do is give equal time to informing the public about the conditions and lack of concern for the puppies well being usually found in these types places.
Too bad you have to make your money by using and abusing animals that should have a good life. Not a life of breeding and being ignored and abused. You should be put in their position and live the life they lead. Shame on people like you.
How sad that People magazine didn't do more research before publishing this article. Please do the right thing and publish an article about puppy mills and the horrid living and health conditions of the breeding dogs.
