I work with Central Tx. Dachshund Rescue. Timothy Hampson and people like him are one reason there are so many homeless dogs. Please act more responsibly in the future when you hold entrepreneurs up as examples--he should only be viewed as a very negative example. Thank you.
You Have Reduced your Publication to
a TRASH RAG for endorsing such a disgusting Practice. Animals are not MERCHANDISE to be sold over the internet, they are living, breathing beings who deserve MUCH more than this horrible fate !!!!!!!!!!!
With so many unwanted dogs at shelters, this should not be legal. Please promote pet adoption from a shelter rather than breeding for profit. Thank you
Please don't glorify what these people are doing. Instead show some photo's of the wonderful dogs/puppies in all our shelters waiting for someone to in and make them a cuddle puppy.
I run an Animal Sanctuary. It is the irresponsable placement of baby animals that leads animals to places like mine - IF THE ANIMALS ARE LUCKY! The rest are destroyed. I though People magazine was run by intelligent newspeople. Guess I was wrong..
People -
I would like to see an article on Puppymills. It would be helpful to show the conditions these animals are raised in and how owners breed them for money only.
There are so many unwanted pets.
Check out Petfinder.com for
a pet who need you!
Remember to spay and netuer your animals for a healthy life..
I am horrified that People Magazine would publish an article promoting puppy mills. They should be promoting adopting, spay/neuter and the HORRORS of puppy mills. This kid needs some education as does People Magazine and its readers.
I'm horrified that People Magazine is giving aid and comfort to those who by their irresponsible behavior add untold numbers of unfortunate dogs to the body count of homeless pets across the country. This kid needs shutting down, not ego strokes in the national media.
This is yet another example of why early-age animal care education is important. Young persons see animal as cute-cuddly objects with out relalizing the big-picture. There is a nation-wide problem with puppy-mills and an ignorant 16 year-old has just has just joined and become a distributor for puppymills, and in addition, an foe of the millions of reputable breeders and rescuers, shelter workers, volunteers, and us veterinarians who have committed our lives to improve the health and welfare of both animals and humans (read the veterinarian's oath.) Does he realize what type of conditions the dogs are living in? Why diseases are associated with most mills? What the common health problems are for each breed he sells? To whom the animals he distributes are going to? Does he know if the owners are planning on spaying, neutering, or breeding, resulting in an exponential growth of animals being euthanized by over-whelmed shelters every year? Is he accepting the responsibility of helping those who want to breed create a responsible and reputable program? Is he prepared to rescue the animals which the owners have decided do not work well. (Responsible breeders do!) Is he prepared to accept the fact that he is promoting genetic defects in animals that cause shortened life-spans and cause their owners hundreds, even thousands, of unnecessary dollars by the dog's age of two through 5? I have a hard time beleiving so. Breeding and distributing ONE breed of animal is a full-time job. He should be more concerned about school-work and developing a rich mental though process versus jumping into something which he, himself, cannot handle. I have lost respect for the popular magazine, "People" which commends and encourages such behaviors by a 16 year old. Instead of scrapping the bottom of the barrle for stories such as how teens are running shoddy businesses, why do you not, instead educate the public? After all, is that not the job of a "news
I am saddened and angry that you would stoop so low as to feature a kid that deals in innocent dogs and puppies like they are a slab of meat. Hello!! We need to STOP puppy mills..not promote them! Never again will I purchase your stupid magazine!
It is a shame that People magazine would reconize this person as doing something good. It just proves how little the public actually knows about the millions of animals that are surrendered to shelters each year and the millions that are euthanized because there are too many animals and not enough good homes.
Its a sad fact in lack of investagation on your part PEOPLE in the name of a story to some very pitiful lives in cages for the Internet puppies. Shame on you for glorifying it.
It is a sad thought that people do not care about animals. They are people too and should be treated as such. I feel sorry for people who operate puppy mills . They do not have a heart
I can't believe that People Magazine would be that ignorant to praise a puppy mill, shame on them, and shame on that teenager. Every child should see the miracle of birth, and death.I'll never buy People Magazine if this is the type of person they are going to back!
Ethical breeders check out where their puppies go.. NO ethical breeder would EVER just sell a puppy over the internet, not caring where it ended up. I realize People Magazine might not have thought things through before publishing this article, but this is not an excuse to publish this endorsement of puppy-milling.
VERY upsetting...
People Magazine really should do an article spotlighting
the rescue leagues that help the poor victims of puppy mills.
Maybe they should tell the tragic story of
Precious Pugs Rescue and Adoption's Spidey
Cuddlypuppy.com? More like puppymillcity.com. Money isn't everything. Timothy Hampson needs to volunteer at a local shelter or for a rescue group and see what happens to a lot of those cuddly puppies once they grow into adult dogs with health and other problems.Perhaps then he could find a more responsible and caring business.
Please educate the public on the puppy mill industry and the crisis of pet overpopulation throughout the world. Encourage the public to adopt a homeless pet from a shelter or rescue group rather than support such a disgusting industry. Money is the driving force and the animals suffer tremendously.
This is a disgrace. It also scares me to think of what may happen when "Timothy" get bored with the whole business (which happens to alot of young people)! What do suppose will happen to the UNSOLD babies.
I don't believe there is anything to be proud of in this young man. Basically, this article is popularizing puppy mills and heaven ownly knows we do not need any more of them. This boy should be put out of business for running a puppy brokerage and is a disgrace!! People magazine should be ashamed for promoting such a "business".
I am appalled that People magazine even gave print space to this and would hope they would at least do a f/u article on shelter and rescue dogs coming from these puppymills and these so-called entrepreneurs.
A few months ago, B. spears was on the cover of yur mag with hyer new puppy from a pet store/mill. I wrote to you about that! Now this!? Never again will I buy this magazine if u don't put a story in about this atrocity! I have been buying People since the beginning. There are alot of dog people out there, alot!
How disappointing that People Mag would have a feature on someone that brokers animals on the internet, animals that come from puppy mills. Maybe some research on animal rescue groups will open your eyes into what really happens to those poor dogs and their parents. Care to do a balancing article? There are so many great people to talk to that do rescue work.
People Magazine should have done their homework before lauding this type of "entrepreneur"! The young man and his mother are nothing more than brokers selling puppies raised in puppymills. They should be ashamed of promoting this type of "business"Puppy mills breed misery! This type of Internet site does nothing but enable puppymillers and feed the already overcrowded shelters with more castaway animals from impulse buyers! People Magazine needs to publish an apology for this travesty--and tell the story of overpopulation and the plight of shelter dogs.
I just witnessed a friend have to have a puppy put down. It was from a flea market. Puppy mills, be they on the net or flea market, or where ever is a disgrace. People are dealing with living, breathing, feeling lives. A 16 year old entrepreneur with the help of his mother selling these precious little lives online - don't think so! They are signing the death warrants of pups by this horrific salesmanship! Shame on his mother! Shame on you for publishing the article! You are just as guilty as the boy and his mother!!!!!!!!
I can't believe that this teen and his family are proud of what he/they are doing. And it is totally irresponsible journalism for you to feature him , especially in such a positive light.
Making money selling dogs over the internet with no regard for who the buyer is simply isn't something to be proud of or encourage. Animals are not a commodity and puppy mills operating such as this one should be shut down.
People Magazine should be doing an article the exposes the cruel truth behind puppy mill "breeders" not rewarding someone who furthers these businesses
This "teen titan" is nothing more than a puppy miller trading in the misery of the breeding stock and with a callous disregard for the welfare of the puppies he markets. Instead of being lauded by People Magazine he should be exposed for what he really is.
I volunteer at a shelter and the most common reason dogs end up there is the lack of education people have when they purchase a puppy. They are all cute & cuddly when they are 8-12 weeks old, but they are also an 8-15 year commitment. Puppy mills are all about the money & the last thing they are doing is making sure the people buying these dogs know what they are getting themselves into. More often then not the dogs are over bred, under nourished, and kept in cages for the soul purpose of making more puppies. They live miserable unhealthy lives. People magazine should be printing articles that inform people about the dogs and the volunteers that care for them all over the country that need good homes & lots of love.
I am very surprised that more research did not go into this article. I certainly hope, in the interest of what is best for these live beings being sold as a commodity over the internet, People Magazine will allow equal time for an educational piece on the horrors of puppy mills (the source of this boy's puppies for sale) and the option of adopting a shelter dog. Thanks.
I cannot believe that People would condone mills like cuddlypuppy.com Does no one at the magazine recognise this for what it is? Sickening irresonsibility? YOu need to be helping to fix the problem of unwanted animals, not encouraging it!
"People" should be ashamed of themselves for printing this article promoting puppymills! This young man and his mother are part of the reason thousands of animals die each day in shelters across America. Why not promote adoptin a shelter or rescue pet and do some good?
