This is the type of "nightmare backyard breeder" that responsible breeders who are approved by their respective breed clubs lose sleep over. PEOPLE MAGAZINE..... SHAME ON YOU!!! Many breeds have potential genetic problems of which careful and responsible breeders are working so hard to eliminate. Is Mr. Hampson working hard to better the breeds that he is selling?? This young man is destroying all we are working for. It is in my sales contract that a puppy MUST be returned to me if the buyer cannot keep it for ANY reason..... Does young Mr. Hampson have that guarantee so that his puppies don't end up in the Animal Shelters??? I have to go now, I have a headache!!
This is disgusting. You cannot allow this to continue. And to show him in a "good light" would be just as bad. I hope you will retract this story, or if it is too late, to do another story, a story on these poor animals he is "hoarding, boarding and shipping off to the highest bidder." It is sickening and shows a poor judgement on your part to not only print this article, but to put this man and what he does in a good light. Please rethink your column, do another. Maybe someone should go see "his pups" and the things he does and "How he makes sure his pups go to the best homes" as he states in his ad. There are many animal lovers who I am sure would be interested in a story about that.
This is just lunacy. When one has to go through the severe health problems and the subsequent heartache if the puppy doesn't survive, it just isn't worth it. It is never fair to the animals who cannot speak for themselves. Why do humans think they have the right to treat animals this way with absolutely no love and compassion? All animals feel and love the way humans do, look at all the stories about mother animals who will forfeit their own lives to save their offspring. Please everyone, give my comments serious consideration. Animals depend on us. Let's not let them down. NO TO PUPPY MILLS WITHOUT QUESTION.
I have always enjoyed People Magazine and have to believe that you did not realize that under the guise of cuddlypuppy.com lies a sinister puppy mill operation, one of the most heinous crimes imagineable operating as a legitimate business. People Magazine - do the right thing now. Publish a public education piece on the horrors of puppy mills so that others, along with the writers and editors at People, will never be conned into something like this article again.
I used to enjoy reading the informative articles in People Magazine, but now that it finds it suitable to print trash like this I will no longer read the magazine
As I see it the only ones benefiting from this operation are the owner of the website and the puppy mill who breeds the dogs. We need tougher laws and harsher punishment.
Bad entrepreneurial idea. So sad to read that so many are still so ignorant. This kid should start a non-profit to raise money for cat/dog spay neuter so he would be helping to solve the pet overpopulation problem rather than contirbuting it.
This article confirms that your magazine does not research it's subjects very thoroughly. If you did your research and still published this article, then I do not wish to support any of the people involved in publication of " People Magazine".
I think absoving the crime that boy is committing by giving him advertising coverage is disgusting. Obviously your magazine doesn't car about living things- just money.
You have just lost a reader & I'm passing this on.
Please don't promote puppymill operations! Take a responsible stance for adopting dogs in need from shelters and always spaying & neutering those dogs.
As a rescue worker, I am sickened at the thought of the influx of "throwaways" we will be receiving in the greater Houston area because of this wretched child who apparently thinks the American Dream consists of the almighty dollar.
WE have enough unwanted dogs that end up in the humane societies and roam the streets from buyers who do not know what they are getting into. Please do not honor people who do not care enought to research what they are doing!
This is a horror and a sin. No REPUTABLE breeder would ever sell their babies through this disgusting enterprise. This kid should be ashamed of himself as should his mother. The welfare of the animals should come first, always, not the almighty dollar. On second thought People Magazine editors should be ashamed for promoting this. Now do some damage control and show where these poor babies really come from and the heros who work so hard to rescue and care for them.
I am horrified that this kid thinks he is doing a GOOD thing by propagating the most horrifying of businesses--puppy mills. Please see www.prisonersofgreed.org.
The puppies he's contracting for came from facilities that create puppies for sale, not for homes--and thus have genetic diseases that are devastating to the animal!
More importantly, the conditions in which these puppies are bread and their parents are housed are DEPLORABLE!
Reputable breeders would NEVER sell to an through an internet source without being able to PERSONALLY check on the well-being for the future of the animal.
PLEASE BALANCE THIS TERRIBLE STORY OF GREED WITH A STORY ABOUT PUPPY MILLS, THE HORRIFYING CONDITIONS AT THE MILLS, AND THE PEOPLE WHO WORK WITH RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS
THAT SAVE ANIMALS THAT COME FROM THESE TERRIBLE PLACES.. Oh the stories I could tell you as just a wife of the manager of Hearts United for Animals, a no-kill
animal sanctuary near Auburn, NE (won international recognition from Smithsonian Institution). PLEASE CONTACT HUA AT 402-274-3679 for more information for a story
to balance this horrible, horrible crime against animals.
I will NEVER buy another issue of People until asuch a story is run!!! AND, I will tell all my friends to do the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hurrumph! Be responsible, for crying out loud! Know the facts before you highlight such greed. It's not a cute story at all when you know THE TRUTH about the SUFFERING!!!
I do not understand how a magazine such as People can condone something as terrible as a puppy mill. There is nothing worse, for dogs. Rather than praising that young man for finding a way to make money, the magazine should be looking for the mills that his "cuddly Puppies" are bought from, and shut them down. Dogs are people, too!!!!!!!
I'm an editor myself and my publication would never think about publishing an article without thoroughly investigating the background of the subject matter!
By glorifying this misguided young persons money making venture you encourage others to follow his example. This is WRONG!!!!! Please publish information from those that oppose this type of business. Public awareness is our only hope for ending pet over population.
I am appalled that People is promoting puppy mill mentality. There are hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats that are being destroyed annually and more puppy mills are not needed. What is needed are people to be directed to pounds and rescue groups. Breeders should be licensed and have at the minimum, some basic genetic training. Too many animals are born with genetic defects and problems that careful breeding could eliminate. Animals that have aggression problems should not be breed. Why don't you write an artical congratulating mass murders while you are at it! This boy is adding to the problem, not helping it.
My mommy says SHAME on you People Magazine ... hope you go out of business unless you place an article on the disgusting filthy conditions of puppymills and an article on Dog Rescue ... WOOF WOOF
We are trying to stop the cruel practices of puppy millers and the sorrowful lives these dogs live. We are trying to educate people and you have chosen to glorify puppy mills and let people think they can make a quick buck with no concern for the puppy. How many of his puppies are still with the original owner and in good health? How many ended up in a shelter o euthanized due to health problems?
Please lets educate
the people about Puppymills. I do rescue work and right now I have two Puppymill dogs. They are scared of their own shadow. These dogs will take alot of time to bring them back to the way they should be. People need to know the truth.
While I applaud your effort to honor teenage entrepreneurs, I cannot believe you chose this inidivudual. Please give us equal time in order to inform the public of the cruel nature of such enterprises. signed, proud owner of two rescued keeshonden.
