Maybe this young man should be taken to the local kill shelter to view sad and heartbreaking reality of the hundreds of pets that are put down every week in such a facility. I am shocked that such a "respectable" and "newsworthy" magazine would promote this disgusting garbage. If you want to make money, please just sell yourself for sex on the street for $100 instead of exploiting innocent animals. This type of conduct is the VERY REASON that an estimated 6-10 MILLION PERFECTLY ADOPTABLE PETS are euthanized EVERY YEAR. This is truely shameful. DO NOT BREED WHAT YOU DON'T NEED! People magazine, someone "up there is watching and taking notes". It is not a coincidence "god" is "dog" spelled backwards. "The moral progress of a nation can be determined by how it treats its animals"--Ghandi
It's a shame that this young man is profiting from the misery of those poor misbegotten puppies. Puppy mills promote animal cruelty and result in poorly bred, sickly dogs that bring great expense and worry to the uninformed people who buy them.
Thank you for trying to promote the achievements of youth in business, but this time you didn't do your homework. Every year irresponsible breeders of sub-standard and anomalous animals sentence thousands of pets to shelters and worse because they grow up sick, weak, non-standard, and unwanted in America. Please do the research. Printing a completely researched article about the cruel and wasteful practice of running puppy mills would do a good deal to correct the damage done by promoting this youth's project. And maybe you could help him find a sane, honorable, and righteous entrepreneurial project for earning his college money. Respectfully,
I am just horrified that People Magazine would applaud and encourage a 16 year old who is earning money off the misery of poor dogs that most probably come from puppymills. Shame on you! People Magazine needs to research puppymills and do an extensive article on the misery they cause. If your reporter(s) had done their research first Timothy Harrison would not have been chosen as a good example, quite the contrary. Next do an indepth article on the number of companion animals killed every year when they are no longer wanted. Perhaps that way you can undo some of the damage you have done.
This will turn into a money making, selfish, non animal loving situation which will end in homeless animals or dogs in inapropriate homes!!!!How can you have this in your magazine as a good thing?
Put simply, People Magazine should step up, admit that the story they ran was irresponsible, and explain to their readers the pervasive problem of pet-overpopulation. No more mills, no more backyard-breeders... bottom line. The kid is helping out an industry based on cruelty and inhumanity... hopefully, if he hears from enough people, he will learn from his mistake!
In this day and age of knowledge I am shocked you would promote a puppy mill such as this. This BOY knows nothing of what the breed is like nor who he sells to. No wonder the Animal Shelters are full of dogs being put down! Shame Shame on you!
Not only is this child promoting puppy mills, the guarantees are outlandish and promote using vitamins for the life of the dog. This can result in problems for the dog if it is being fed a proper diet. Overuse of vitamins can result in major problems for the dog. People Magazine ought not tout this website as anything of benefit or as an example of GOOD entrepreneurship in any way, shape, or form.
I admire his desire to start a business, but this is the WRONG business to be having on the internet or anywhere.
Sadly, there are so many BAD pet owners. As a rescue person, I see the neglect, abuse, living on the streets and lonliness of dogs who's novelty wears off after puppy stage. Dogs/Puppies like children depend on us for their every need. THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of dogs get put down every month due to people who move and can't keep their dog, their dog is old and they dont want to deal with it, on and on and on ..... New carpet and fur does not match the color so get rid of the dog. Why dont you turn your focus towards finding homeless dogs "GOOD" forever homes. If you don't rescue, DONT BREED!!!! Take a trip to one of your local shelters, look in the eyes of a throw away dog...Who knows, one of those dogs could be one of your puppies. Do you take the puppies back when they are no longer wanted? Some food for thought!
That guy is disgusting! How can he heartlessly sell puppies off the internet, without taking care of them? He's a regular puppy miller. His mother should be ashamed, but she's right up there rooting for him! That is disgraceful!
I respect People Magazine for showing and encouraging the succuess of young business people, but I feel that the magazine should have done their homework and made sure that the money that was being made was ethically earned. It is only with help from the media that the public can truly understand the horrors of what happens to these poor animals. I hope that People Magazine takes to moral hight road by choosing to show how wrong it is to make money at the expense of innocent and tortured animals
How could you print a story like this? What ever happened to reporters doing RESEARCH before writing a story? The information is all on the internet for anyone to see. Don't have to leave your desk. Just go look and see where this kid gets his puppies from! Unbelievable! First AARP Magazine and now People. Shame on you!
It is an outrage for People magazine to promote Timothy Hampson as being an "entrepreneur", when in reality he is a broker for puppymillers and unscrupulous backyard breeders who breed dogs of poor quality who will more than likely be plagued by numerous health problems soley for profit This young man should NOT be applauded for his unethical business practices and the fact tha People Magazine does so and gives him free advertising is appalling!!
Please help to educate people not only about the horrors that take place in Puppy Mills, but also about the sickly, poorly bred pups that more then often end up in a shelter.
Please publish an article expalianing what really goes on in puppy mills. You might want to visit one or more of the rescue sites and read their horror stories.
Instead of promoting puppy mill practice, people magazine should education this 16 year old and his family on the horror of puppy mills. Better yet, let the young man go work at the shelter for a few months and see first hand the results of puppy mills.
This is not what I want my daughter to view as success - selling dogs for puppy mills. You should be ashamed of promoting what should be an illegal practice.
Dogs are not a dollar sign. This teenager is nothing more than a tool of the puppy mill industry. Why would your magazine provide him with free advertising. I don't intend to read your magazine again until a story appears about the appalling nature of puppy mills and how they go about selling their "merchandise". I will encourage any one I can to boycott as well.
It's only fair that people get the truth about the disgrace of the very thought that someone in this day and age is benefiting from Puppy Mills after all the discovery in the recent past.
People magazine to be fair and balanced, and to hopefully show the level of dispair these so called breeders, Puppy Mills, are causing, needs to counter with a HUGE story on puppy mills and breed rescue societies. To have an article praising these so called Teen Titans is just out of the rhelm of good taste.
For the integrity of your magazine, we will see an article very soon on the actual consequences of puppy mills in our country and an apology to the many homeless and unwanted animals that have been euthanized or are currently sitting in shelters because of these uncaring individuals. Please follow up for us and find out where most of these animals are now.
Where were your editors?! It's appalling that a "reputable" magazine would run such an irresponsible article promoting a cruel practice that cashes in on the misery, pain and suffering of the most innocent beings – our animals. Where are the articles on the merciless treatment of animals in puppy mills? Where are the articles on how many unwanted pets are destroyed each year? I’m disgusted that you would feature such a barbaric “business” and frightened to think how many other idiots you have inspired.
HOW COULD YOU??? Those of us that make it our life's work to protect purebred dogs are being undone by your stupidity. Why don't you just wave a red flag in front of the money hungry? Dog's are not a commodity, they are an effort of great care and passion. I'm sure not going to buy People Magazine again, and will tell all everyone I know (that's a lot!) just how you are "educating" the American public.
This is a shame that PEOPLE considers the thoughtless sale of living, breathing creatures to be admirable. The kid & his Mom should be put out of business ASAP. Your reporters should be forced to see those facilities that breed those substandard dogs before they champion their sale.
To be able to add new puppies daily to be sold, there is a lot of breeding going on! Those poor dogs. He is in it not for the love of dogs, but for the money. That is shameful and People Magazine should not be promoting this. I would love to see a story on puppy mills or on all the un-wanted dogs that are put to sleep every day. That would be a worthy cause, not a story on so called "entrepreneurs."
Please expose "millers" for what they are. Money hungry leeches who do not care about the welfare of their animals. Buy from a registered breeder only.
It just proves what low life scum run People magazine. They're only interested in money and so why wouldn't they promote some other stupid people who think it's ok to make money off the misery and suffering of helpless creatures. The kid and his stupid mother should be forced to work at a high kill shelter every day for a minimum of six months where dogs are euthanized daily. Maybe then they'd have an inkling of how much harm they've caused.
Those of us involved in rescue work incredibly hard to put an end to operations who breed, or promote breeding, for profit only. For every one puppy this young man sells one less homeless dog sitting waiting in a shelter will find a home. Humans have a responsibility to put a stop to this. Please help us educate people on this important issue!
This article is all about money...and not about the animal... the *business owner* needs to go see what the shelters/rescue groups deal with everyday....the puppies/dogs/cats/kittens that no one wants..anymore...there is your story~the results..from the leftovers and rejected..
I will stop reading your magazine, and will start a boycot amoung my 1000 plus customers that I have at my place of business each and every week. Please consider equal time for the animals that are being abused at these puppymills.
I look at my furkids...all rescues and don't understand why you would applaud what this 16 year old and his mother are doing.Puppies raised with children ...bull!Poor animals bred until they can't be bred anymore. Females when rescued from mills whose uterus are so paper thin from having litter after litter at every heat for the almighty dollar. Do an article on the rescues from these mills. Show the true pictures of animals with hair so matted they can't see. Cages so small they can't lay down.Wire used for collars that become imbedded in their necks because they are put on when little and never loosened. Don't praise this child....take him to a mill that is being shut down and make him help bring out these puppies. Let him see the truth about where they come from. PRINT THE TRUTH ABOUT PUPPY MILLS!
If you don't rescue don't breed....teach young teens compassion along with responsibility. Go volunteer at a shelter and leave these poor dogs alone and get a real job.
This is awful! How can they indiscriminately breed dogs without any knowledge of health problems, hereditary problems, etc., just for the bucks. Shame!!!
The day Timothy and his Mother have to hold shelter dogs for euthansia, might be the day they WAKE UP and realize the contribution they're making to shelters by their support of Puppymillers.
THis is disgusting, he is selling dogs at outrageous price and knows nothing about these specific breeds! Completely promoting puppy mills and should be arrested! I am DISGUSTED
You have so much power to inform so many people. Let your magazine be the voice of millions of innocent animals who have no voice of their own. The power of your good deed will far surpass the imaginable. You can make us proud to be your readers!
To those of us who are reputable and ethical breeders this is a real crime! My wife and I have a web site, www.betzbulldogs.com , but are very selective in breeding and who we sell to. We also believe a breeder should rescue their own when the owner can't or won't take care of a dog any more!
While I can understand that a teenager may be viewed as a young and budding business man in the making I find it hard to believe that a teenager can handle the scope of breeding etically, maintaining rigid pedigrees on the dogs and finding safe and loving homes for the animals. In addition a commitment to taking care of the animal when it develops serious heath problems would most likely be impossible for such a young person to back up financially when necessary. Often this means the pup goes untreated and the breeders never know that they are producing pups with health problems. Please consider posting articles puppy mills and what life is like for dogs that are "babybreeders".

I am shocked that a publication such as "People" would stoop so low as to recognize such an "entrepreneur." Not only is this teen totally misdirected, but I question the ethics of his parents as well. In all fairness to the readership, "People" absolutely must allow a feature article addressing the perils of puppymills, and the warm-hearted kindness of rescue organizations who eventually end up with the leftovers. "People's" article is nothing short of an advertisement for puppymillers.
I think People magazine needs a brain adjustment! We don't need a child selling dogs to the idiots dumb enough to buy them like this. Cuddlypuppy.com is not a responsible pet site.
