We need to educate people and discourage them from buying dogs from puppy mills. Internet puppy mills are to be discouraged. Many dogs are put down at shelters every day because they are in need of homes. Encourge people to adopt from shelters and save the lives of these dogs. Do not promote people with .com puppy mill web sites.
What a horrible article..."peddling puppies" and making 70k at that...maybe we should all quit our jobs and breed dogs for a living...we need more unwanted dogs in this world.
Shame on you People Magazine to promote such animal cruelty and to treat live animals with the same cavalier attitude as ordering a pair of shoes on the Internet.
People like this young guy are a disgrace. He has no care for the animals he is using for profit, whilst quickly undoing so much hard work done by caring, repsonsible breeders. Please give us the oportunity to educate people about the right way to get the right healthy dog for their family for life.
This is terrible! This kids tells everyone who buys one of his puppies to spay or neuter it, yet does just the opposite by buying hundreds of puppies from puppy millers! He's a hypocrite and People Magazine should be ashamed of themselves to promote money being made from animals that cannot speak for themselves!
Plus his puppy raising instructions are terrible! Only hold a puppy 15 minutes an hour? If his puppies cannot withstand normal dog raising handling, then something is wrong with them. All those additives he promotes to give the puppies JUST TO KEEP THEM ALIVE means something is wrong also. Plus when a puppy gets lethargic the puppy owner is to call him??? He is not a veterinarian. But I bet if the puppy owner takes the sick puppy to a vet instead of calling him, and it dies, the "garauntee"
would be null and void! Great way to get out of "replacing" the puppy money.
Smaller than normal sized breed puppies 'are' very fragile which means they needs 'more' care, not less.
Sincerely,
Dana Miller

I am more than just offended by the magazine wanting to do a story on a young'entrepreneur' by having them glorify PUPPY MILLS in the computer age! GET A REAL JOB kid a mom!! There are tens of thousands of animals put to sleep each year, why doesn't he help find those unwanted pets homes????
Puppy mills are such a huge and recognized problem in the dog world. I am horrified and disgusted to see you touting this child's brokering service, supplied by puppy mills, as a budding entrepreneur.
Unbelievable! Never mind the teenager who has made a really bad and I would hope uninformed decision to sell puppies from his home, what is this mother thinking??? Do you not teach your children to love and care for helpless animals, not sell them to strangers for a buck? Shame on you,Mrs. Hampson!
Of all the irresponsible bits of journalism out there, this one takes the cake! As a responsible breeder who rescues the byproducts of wholesale dog brokers like this boy, puppy mills and ignorant uncaring backyard breeders, I am horrified that you are propagating the idea that dogs-for-profit is a responsible way to produce animals that will share a family's life for 12-14 years.
I lived next door to a puppy mill. The lady sent her "*****" to Canada from Washington to be bred. Then when the dog got home, the puppies died because she went on vacation and left the puppies under a heat lamp.
No matter how you look at it this kid is a puppy broker. That's where puppy mills sell their dogs. You should be ashamed for promoting a broker in this manner no matter what his age is.
Shame on People magazine. This is only contributing to the problem of overpopulation of dogs in this country. Get your heads out of your butts and think about being responsible journalists instead of promoting puppy mills and irresponsible breeding of purebred dogs.
Aww geesshhh! This is very sad.And now they have free advertising for their bussiness in a big way.As exploiting animals wasn't enough.I never bought people magazine anyway..it already sucked. Now it has hit the poor animal world.I'll be sure to let all my animal friends know.
It is disgusting that a young person would be admired for breeding dogs and selling them for profit!!! How can PEOPLE MAGAZINE glorify this boy is obviously doesn't realize what he is doing. There are so many homeless animals waiting for homes in shelters and rescues. Why not write an article about the people who create and run these rescues?? These are the people who deserve to have national recognition. Not a greedy little teen!!
Puppy mills are absymal, cruel, disgusting, pathetic practices that need to be monitored and banned in the U.S. I, for one, would be happy to escort these "breeders" to jail--locked up in one cell with 100 mates!
Journalists have a responsibility to research issues before publishing stories. People magazine failed and they should be ashamed. They can only make this right by RESEARCHING this issue and doing an article about puppymills, backyard breeders, and pet overpopulation.
I have always supected a dear dog I had who had to be put to sleep at five years of age began his life in a puppy mill. I wuold like to see this hideous practice stopped. Please lend my support to the publishing of the article on these hideous mills.
This is scarry, and I am shocked. There needs to be a law to stop this kind of business; and for People magazine to have this story is sooo wrong...shame on them! People magazine should show the outcome or bad stories on puppy mills-so people can be aware of what the treatment these innocent animals really go through...again shame on People magazine...maybe next time you should do your research, maybe this would make your magazine more credible but I guess apparently not now based on the story
There are millions of dogs that are put to death because people don't want them anymore. Let's save there lives by adopting them. We don't need more puppys to be bred to end up in shelters.
People Magazine, I'm glad you wrote about this "enterprising" young man so as to raise our awareness of his greedy, disgusting and inhumane business. Business like his should be shut down, not So please now do the responsible thing and allow a story about the other side of the puppymill business. This man and his family should be rebuked, not lauded.
I can't believe a magazine like People endorses and encourages a young person to enter into a business such as this. Shame on you People Magazine! I'm cancelling my subscription!
Puppymills do not only hurt people, but the puppies are the ones who are also hurt. There are to many people who do not understand the possible problems that exsist with this topic, and then to have the media to portray it as exceptable is no wrong. Please people understand this is just WRONG!
This is why we get little puppies with livershunt. People like this just breed to whatever without searching the backround of the Mother or Father. This is not looking to better the breed at all!!
People Magazine, please print a follow up article on the suffering of animals in puppy mills. Please help educate the public as to where these poor dogs come from. Please be a part of the solution to stop puppy mills. "Please don't buy while the homeless, unwanted dogs die." Thank you.
Unfortunately this is not illegal. How about People Magazine take little Timmy and his family to a shelter to show him where alot of his money making "products" end up. Maybe then he'd think about the consequences of what he is doing. He and his family might even develop some morals.
I will be emailing cuddlypuppy directly to voice my disgust.
I am so ashamed of the mother for encouraging her son to use animals in this way. I can understand a kid not caring, but she is a MOM. I cry for every dog that has been used to fund this sick "business".
It's articles like the one in people that cause the uneducated person to think puppymills and buying puppies from such websites is okay. Shame on you People Magazine!
I recently adopted my loyal friend, a boxer, from a local rescue organization (www.boxarrescue.org) after he was found wandering the streets. There are many pets of all types being rescued from streets, uncaring or unknowing owners, and "mills" (such as the one you highlighted) which are available for adoption. Organizations such as these also save pets from shelters that often euthanize due to lack of funds to provide for the large number of animals which they acquire as a result of neglect and abuse. Rescue organizations screen their prospective families before allowing a pet to be placed with them as if a child were being adopted, unlike the shops and puppy mills who sell to anyone who shows an interest. I am aware of the neglect, abuse and torture of pets as I was a police officer for many years.
A child makes for a great human interest story but so does the rescue of an animal that was once infested with parasites and has become mere skin and bones from searching garbage for survival and receives food and medical care and eventually a home with a loving family. Possibly you could highlight these organizations with an explanation as to why they must rescue pets from those who think of them only as possessions or a money making venture rather than loving, feeling animals which are loyal no matter the consequences. Please consider promoting organizations which many times are non-profit and depend heavily on donations to provide food and medical care to correct the injustices caused by such "businesses" as puppy mills.
I adopted a rare breed of dog from a puppy mill...and ya know what they did to him? They shoved a steel rod down his throut to break his vocal cords so he's never bark again...now when someone rings my door bell he can only let out a little sqeak. PLEASE stop these puppy mills.
Here we go again! Journalism at it's "unthinking" best.
Puppymills are not a new thing and no one has any excuse for not researching the subject they are writing about. Just go to www.nomorepuppymills.com to hear a bit about the subject. And to glorify an unthinking and unknowlegable teen for making money, might as well as glorify a teen who promotes drug selling. Misery is the outcome in both cases.
I have read People Magazine for many years and was disgusted that you would applaud this young man for promoting puppymills! How does he ensure that these animals are going to good homes and are not going to wind up in shelters across the country? My guess is he doesn't care and is just looking for quick cash. There are thousands of rescue groups who are trying to make a diference for shelter animals, please print articles about them, and let readers know about the joys of adopting a dog.
People Magazine I Am Ashamed Of You...~~~ This is totally disgusting. This is nothing but a puppy mill and to think of all the un wanted puppies and other animals in the shelter and the rescue homes. To promote this type of business is to promote inhumanity.
This is one of the most repulsive things I've heard in some time. Puppies are not relics, collectibles, or any of the myriad of items that should be sold on ebay. Shame on People Magazine for encouraging such an idea.
It's a shame someone of this age is manipulating animals for profit AND being honored for it. Shame on you People Magazine for glorifying this terrible pratice of breeding dogs for retail profit. Your staff writers should spend a few days seeing how the adult dogs live, or shall we say survive, their days in the commercial breeding facilities called 'puppy mills".
The only way to stop irresponsible breeding practices is through education. I would hope that People Magazine will print an article exposing puppy mills for the disgrace they are!
I am sure this teen has no idea what he is perpetuating. Puppy mills are the most horrifying industry out there!!!! Profitting off of helpless animals isn't creative it is dispicable. Now, if he was taking puppies from the humane society or the animal shelter and putting them on his website, that would be a teen titan. He would be helping others instead of just himself. Come on People Magazine, surely you are smarter than this.
We have an uphill battle to make sure that animals in shelters have a home now. This type of coverage will lead to an even greater increase in supply. The animals will lose. Why not an article on young kids helping out at shelters, not using pups and kittens to increase their bottom line.....
