I cannot believe with all the publicity that puppy mills get, you actually had the audacity to say this "kid" is a budding entrepreneur!!! In actuality, he has no "passion" for what he does, other than making LOTS of money. He doesn't have the facilities to care for these animals properly, yet you showcase what a wonderful thing he is doing.
I will never buy your magazine again, but if someone gives me a copy, I WILL be sure to donate it to a shelter or rescue group for use as a cage liner. They are in dire need of many supplies to care for all the homeless animals tossed away every day. SHAME ON YOU!
my family and i are subscribers of your magazine. once i read this article that you had the nerve to put in talking about what a great job this young man and his family are doing i was appalled! why people magazine would ever condon a think like this puppy mill situation is beyond me. people like me and my family do everything to save these animals. i am going to unsubscribe to your magazine because of this and i will be spreading the word to everyone i know to unsubscribe. thank you for saving me some money to bad you are the one losing out. but lets be serious the only one losing out in this situation is our beloved animals
What is wrong with People Magazine? Do you have any idea what goes on in these puppy mills? I can't believe you would promote this kind of behavior. I am a longtime reader and you have just lost me.
Hi, I work at a rescue center for dogs,if this young man saw what happens to these pups after he sells them. Its a terrible shame. We need more articles on educating the public on this very subject.
How can your magazine be advocating puppy mills? This is what Cuddlypupy.com is. Dogs are not comodotes to be sold over the internet!! They are living breathing creatures and all prospective homes should be screened. NO ONE SHOULD BE BREEDING UNLESS THEY ARE BREEDING FOR A PURPOSE. Putting pet puppys in homes is NOT a valid purpose. It is a puppy mill. Breeders, true breeders, breed for a purspose, such as confirmation, obedience, herding, etc. They ALWAYS are looking to better the breed. Please correct your mistake and run an article about rescus and puppymills immediatly before anymore harm is done by your magazine.
It's unfortunate that People Magazine would publish an article that features this young man selling puppy mill puppies as an example of an entrepreneur. This is an example of someone making money without caring enough about the consequences of his actions. I hope in the future People Magazine thinks a lot harder about the content and what these type of articles are saying about this young man's values.
You would think someone at People Magazine would be just as horrified as we all are and pulled the article. There are much better things to write about. Shame on you!
I cannot believe anyone would do this to anything!! I am such a dog lover, but regardless any animal, person or living thing should not have to go through this!! I am just shocked and hurt by this act of unkindness!!
I guess there are no pet lovers at People Magazine or this would of happened. This family needs educated along with the rest of the world about how many pets are at puppymills and in shelters.
I think that is an awful thing to do for puppies, I have a "rescue" dog from one of those and she was very mistreated, and has major emotional trama. She only trusts me, she will "fear" bite people. The people who had her, did the same thing, they sold dogs from their cars, and when they were raided, they found hundreds of cats and dogs and puppies. It was on TV about 9 years ago, people from all over came and rescued these dogs. These kinds of people care NOTHING about the animals, all they care about it their POCKET BOOK!
All of them should be busted for animal cruelty!
Before you print articles such as this, I think you need to do a little research. Go to the shelter and see all the faces that want to have a home and love but will probably get the needle instead. They come from places just like the one you are promoting with your article. Also check into the puppy mills. Shame on you.
Disgraceful - you should not be allowed to sell animals as if they were a commodity like a pair of shoes - they are living creatures - please respect that fact!
Are you and Timothy Hampson completely unaware how many dogs are put to death every year because no one will care for them? This is not responsible reporting.
This is so awful to promote a puppy miller and a child at that....you should be ashamed...I will never buy another People magazine because of this...didn't you all think about this before adding it to your pages....I do rescue and you are just aiding in the overwhelming problem of unwanted dogs....sure kid...keep selling those puppies and 6 months down the road when the owners get tired of them they end up in rescue, at the pound or dead from being hit by a car, or worse, like starving because they were just dumped on the side of the road...and yes, this does happen every day...we live in a disposable society and you are part of the problem....Lynn Constable TLC WEIM RESCUE
I agree with so many comments on this petition...16 yrs old and is totally clueless on the life these dogs' parents are living...only cares about "show me the money" - People Mag you should be ashamed of yourself!
Those of us who are active in rescue just can't be surprised by things like this anymore. Most millers are lost causes, not willing to see the damage they cause. Our only hope is to educate families, to open their eyes to rescue, and teach them what to look for in an ethical breeder.
This is a disgrace, and I have always thought that this magazine was much better in their choices. This young man needs to be stopped, and educated in his dealings regarding animals.
The magazine needs to allow information to be delivered and published showing that there is a better way to do things.
You DO need to focus on what really goes on with puppy mills and educate people about that. How about article on Dog auctions- that will come into play when you investigate breeders. After you publish that article, then you might want to write about rescue groups and all they go through to save these babies after they are no longer breedable or just plain neglected while in the puppy mill. Open your eyes and help others to see too.
I went to the boy's puppy site and I was appaled at the prices being charged for these dogs. Most of them are anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 each.AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN PUREBREEDS.How many perfectly healthy dogs do you think you could buy from a rescue shelter for that amount. There are hundreds of puerbred rescues every year that need new homes that are just as good as these dogs.PEOPLE MAGAZINE,STAND UP AND LOOK IN THE MIRROR AT YOURSELF AND SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING.Stop advocating puppy mills and concentrate on helping the thousands of puppies and dogs that are in America's shelters.HELP US HELP THEM.
I hope that you are indeed ashamed of contributing towards puppymils and puppyfarms. If a world renowned magazine support this, we serious breeder do not have a chance in hell... Please recitfy..
For a periodical publication such as PEOPLE MAGAZINE to print a story such as this is a glaring insight into what happens when factual research is ignored in order to sell a story, albeit charming to your average reader. I'm sure this young man actually believes what he's doing is harmless, but the damage you've done to the countless numbers who comprise your loyal readership in perpetuating this seemingly innocent "business venture" as a positive endeavor and applauding this practice is at best grossly irresponsible. Please do the research now which will hopefully educate your editorial staff that the glorification of this kind of activity will in all likelyhood lead to even a small surge in some percentage of your readership to attempt to try this now glorified attempt at breeding genetically inferior pups for profit.
As a veterinarian, I already see far too many results of these "entrepeneur's"pups sold to well meaning, but sadly uninformed consumer families, and the heartaches it causes the unaware new owners and short lives of these poor dogs these "businesses" produce is already devastating, your story's cuddly puppy view on a budding source of these heartbreaks looking for a place to happen motivated me to write.
People Magazine has the capacity with it's reputation for ethical journalism if a well researched and objective story were published which truly told the story of "Where Does That Puppy In The Window REALLY Come From?".
Plenty has been written already about the tragedy of puppy mills, and though I'm sure this article's intent was in no way meant to soften the deserved poor reputation of these entities, an educational and realistic expose on their practices and public deception could potentially save thousands of pet loving consumers thousands of dollars in vet bills, not to mention the mental anguish they endure due to purchasing these pups. It breaks my heart to ha
Betting a lot of these puppies are from puppy mills. A good breeder would never sell a dog without meeting the people - checking w/their Vet. This is just for $$$ and little if any thought is given to the puppies.
A dog is not a commodity item to be bought over the internet. There is no check on the dog's health or the owners ability to provide a safe and loving home. This horrendous money making scheme should be banned.
You are heralding this young man's efforts at selling puppies from puppymills to unsuspecting buyers, by saying he gets the dogs from reputable breeders. No REPUTABLE breeder sells their dogs to someone sight unseen, and allows them to resell those puppies. Rescuers work very hard to rehome the dogs we foster and care for, usually with our own funds, and 99% of these dogs originated in a pet store, whether in a strip mall or on the Internet. A story about what really happens to these dogs should be printed as well.
This article is an outrage to every person working to educate the public re: animal care & responsible ownership. How on earth could you be so plain stupid to promote this kind of business.? Would you now do an article on the amount of animals needlessly killed at shelters because of abandonment, abuse & neglect. Often animals obtained from this kind of 'mill'.in the first place,by people who soon tire of the responsibility. Genuine breeders check buyers carefully to make sure the animal is cared for,& will take them back if they dont settle in the home. This article has done such damage ,it is indescribable.
I can't believe People would be promoting this young man's "business"! I'm sure the editors of PEOPLE know better!
Why in the world would you help ANYONE sell "PUGGLES" etc? PLEASE, look into these websites and what they REALLY are before giving credit where credit should not be given. Instead of being PROUD of what this young man is doing, I'm sure you'll be embarrassed for giving him such credit!
You need to do an article on responsible breeding now, and the reason NO ONE should buy a puppy from sites such as cuddlypuppy.com or their local pet store.
This country has more than enough of it's share of the disgrace of puppymills without advertising those that have 'discovered' the business. It is a terrible business to promote. There are way too many homeless, abused, abandoned pets now. I too would like to see your magazine now do an article on all those puppymills out there and the terrible conditions they create.
Your support of this young man's dog breeding activities is totally irresponsible! Dog breeding is an art and a labor of love, not a money-maker for people ignorant of genetics, dog training and socialization, or the need to match home to dog. Shame on him and you!
Someone needs to take this boy to a Puppymill. Then they need to take him aside and have a real serious conversation with him about what kind of harm he is doing.
He obviously is not being guided very well by his own parents.
What a perfect venue you have to educate the public about the thousands of unwanted dogs, cats, puppies and kittens who are needlessly put to sleep every year. As I write this some poor dog or cat is suffering now due to neglect, cruelty or even lack of knowledge. Impulse buying should not include a poor hapless soul who is dependent on it's supposedly compassionate human for it's very life!!
This is discusting, to sell live animals over the internet. This is worse than any puppymill operation that i know of. I would hope that people Magazine is not supporting this kind of behavior.
I am so ashamed of People Magazine for running this article. Due to you featuring this article I think it's only fair that you do a feature on Puppy mills and how awful they are. Shame on you people magazine.
Until you can run an article on the evils of puppy mills. I will not be buying your magazine any longer.
Running a dog rescue for animals that are a result of this kind of business allows me to see all the pain, suffering and misery caused by puppymillers like this young boy. How can you run an article that allws him to be held up to the public as a good thing. You should be ashamed.
This is NOT a good feature re young titans. Puppy mill purveyors of this nature are abhorrent. Making money on the backs of animals and nor caring about the quality of life is criminal.
This is nothing but a puppy miller, and he should be put out of business. I feel sorry for all the puppies being bred just for him to get rich. I will call him and voice my feelings.
This is nothing but a puppymill with NO respect for life! I am sorry they are permitted to stay in business! I am sorrier that a national media organization feels this is an ideal to "show off" to the rest of the world! Makes me ASHAMED to be in the same country!!! We were founded on RESPECT! I don't see any here!!! ; (
Besides -- some of them are MUTTS! I know they are not studying pedigrees. Come to a show and see what work goes into having a litter the RIGHT way!!!!!
Peoplee Magazine...please counter this story with a story on the horrors of puppy mills and overbreeding of pets. This kid needs to be put out of business.
What's next for the young businessman. selling his overstock to laboratories? Breeders should raise no more dogs than they can live with in their living room.
Shame, Shame, Shame, on you People magazine. Do a little research before you promote something as evil, and cruel as the puppymills this young man is getting these poor defenseless puppies from. By applauding him, in your article you are promoting needless suffering, and pain, to thousands of innocent dogs.
