We have a wonderful rescue pug. Before she came to live with us at the age of five, she was used like livestock, kept outdoors in a small wire cage at a puppymill in WV. She did not have a name she knew; she did not know about being a pet. Puppymills are evil. they promote suffering. Please become aware and use your power for good by raising awareness in others.
Please write the other half of this story. The writer would be fully educated by spending one day in a high-kill shelter, assigned to the euthanasia room. Education cures ignorance.
Dogs are not chattel to be sold over the internet. It's disgusting that People magazine is glorifying what this kid and his family are doing. Puppymills are HORRIBLE places that sell sick (physically and emotionally)puppies and in which the parents usually live their lives in filthy, rusting kennels often with no heat, and just enough food and water to stay alive--al to make more money for the puppy millers. They should have to live in those conditions!!!!
Anyone who raises and sells puppies only for money and does not pay attention to the long term welfare of the dogs is a puppy mill and is making the problem of unwanted dogs worse.
I'm shocked and disappointed that People magazine would glorify anyone who makes big profits off of animals - especially when pet overpopulation is such a big problem. The article praises and encourages youngsters to make a quick buck on the lives of living beings. So much for teaching our young people about responsibility.
I don't know who is more irresponsible--this teen & his family or People magazine! To promote this entrepreneurship as exemplary shows a complete lack of pet ownership knowlege by the editor(s) of this magazine. Whoever made the decision to print this article must not be a pet owner. I can't believe that the "cages in the kitchen & laundry room" didn't raise a red flag. That statement brings a deplorable picture to mind. He needs to take a trip to the local shelter and look into the eyes of all the hopeful pets there. Let him help advertise them and find them homes instead of perpetuating the viscious cycle!
I am appalled at People Magazine for publicizing a story glorifying a budding young puppymiller. People need to be educated about the horrors of puppymills rather than having them glorified and promoting how much money there is to be made in this despicable industry! Shame on you People Magazine. Double, double shame.
Sick People do Sick things and the MOTHER of this Sick child is Sicker than he is, to suport his Actions of selling these poor pups on the inter net.
In the last 5 years THE HOUSE of ROTTS Rottweiler Rescue has taken in over 300 Abused Rottweilers and has found homes for 90% of them. No matter what Province or State we live in there ar laws against creulity of animals LETS inforce them and put more BITE on the ones who abuse them.
sadly your article on the teenage puppymiller will cause more damage than you can imagine. please do the right thing to try to correct your grave error in judgement and run a new story about the reality of puppymills. also please do a feature on rescue dogs and the heroic individuals who devote their lives to pet rescues.
You know, I went to that site! I am amazed at what they have to offer.. What the hell kind of dogs are these! Mini Rotties..NO SUCH A DAMN THING! These are suffering dogs shoved in pins and unable to live a life being bred to make this CHILD AND HIS MOMMY SOME MONEY.. GET A REAL JOB!!! This is so sickening! They even have on the web site, "think about adoption first before buying a puppy, and "we make sure our dogs go only to loving homes" OH YEAH SURE!! Please include a picture to the owners of their brand new puppies parents and see how fast they will run if they onlu KNEW THE TRUTH! Where is the thought process? My wife works so hard in rescue and goes to the shelters all the time to evaluate and pull dogs in hopes in finding them a home. There are PUREBRED dogs at the shelters EVERYDAY! PET STORES are only supplied by PUPPYMILLS! PET STORES, BACK YARD BREEDERS, and PEOPLE LIKE THIS CHILD AND HIS MOMMY are buying these dogs for less than $100 each and selling them for thousands! Why dont we breed you a million times before you are 5 years old and cant even **** because your hair is so matted to your ass BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO GO AND from IMPROPER CARE, and you cant stand up anymore because you haven't been let out of your little little cage except to have the poor stud dog in this try and get it on with you. You should read some of the stories of these puppy mills and pet store stories. The suffering these animals go through is more than you could ever imagine. If you think this is good publishing and that it is right to call this BOY A TEEN TITAN... you should really volunteer at a shelter and get in to the reality of life for these dogs out in the world with no one! You try living your life like these dogs do. This makes me more sick than I can tell you. My wife whom I mentioned above is a mess over this and believe me.. she and everyone else that is on this petition are out to let everyone they know and ever
Wow, anything for a buck is what message I'm getting from this 'teen titan' and by People Magazine.
I certainly hope that the magazine will give the same devoted attention to educate the public about the seriousness of unwanted dogs that are dumped off after they aren't cute anymore or how much heartache a person goes thru because these dogs from a puppymill have serious health problems.
I help with Border Collie rescue in Ohio. Too many good dogs are euthanized each year because people are not aware of rescue organizations, neutering and spaying, and puppy mill dogs. Irresponsible breeding is at the core of this issue. Please take the time to portray the reality of rescue--the happy homes and the not so happy side of dogs who never find a home, never get to rescue, or get euthanized.
I've always loved
People magazine but no more. I will never buy it again. You should be promoting adoption from the animal shelters and rescues. There are so many homeless, unwanted, and unloved animals as it is!
Puppy Mills should not be glorified or for children to be taught that this is OK. There should be a law that people cannot profit from animals. You would think in this day and age we would know better. Teach you kids to sell something that doesn't haven't feelings. Hey merchandise!
People Magazine, in light of your recent article that included information about cuddlypuppy.com, please include an article about the benefit of rescue dogs in a future issue. It is an atrocity that many people think only about making money rather than the lives of the dogs they breed. So many wonderful, adoptable dogs are put to death in shelters across the U.S. Many of these come from puppy mills, like those you features in your recent issue. It would be wonderful if you would write an article about the crisis of dogs being euthanized across the nation, and the benefits of saving dogs from death by adoption through shelters or rescue groups. I am a volunteer with German Shepherd Rescue in Los Angeles area and have taken an active part in having wonderful dogs given a 2nd chance at life in their new, forever homes. However, I have passed by many dogs in shelters who have not gotten a 2nd chance at life and have been needlessly, and very sadly, put to death. Please write an article in their defense. Thank you.
I'm a volunteer for a rescue group that does it's best to save and place these poor dogs who live hellish lives in puppy mills. I've also adopted 4 of them and no matter how much rehabilitation work is done with them, they will never be "normal" dogs! For shame on People Magazine for printing this horrible article! I will NEVER purchase that magazine again.
I think it is horrible to promote puppy mills in People magazine or any publication. Quality of life is never an emphasis in puppy mills. We need to educate the American public about what really happens in puppy mills.
We have rescue dog from a puppy mill and she will never be "normal". At age 3 she is still very jumpy/easily startled by noise or any kind of sudden movement from lack of socialization during a critical period of development. She is luckier than most in that she didn't have other health problems other than worms which were treatable and malnourishment which was resolved with proper feeding. She is a loving, sweet golden retriever. Hopefully there won't be future health problems from lack of proper breeding. Please provide a voice for these innocent creatures that can't speak for themselves.
As an active member of a dog rescue group, I often see the aftermath of what these puppymillers do to their "stock." These are not dogs to them. They are breeding stock and a source of revenue. They receive little or no medical care and are often substandard for their breed at the outset. Many of the puppymill rescue dogs that I deal with have severe medical problems directly related to the disgusting and criminal conditions in which they live. Please do not support the puppymillers. Please recind your praise of Timothy Hampson. He is not to be admired. He is simply profitting from the systematic criminal abuse and neglect of innocent animals. Take a look around on the internet. "Google" puppymills and see what comes up. The photos and descriptions you see are not exaggerated or doctored by animal rights fanatics. These photos and descriptions are factual accounts of actual puppymill situations. What happens in these places is criminal. Your article is praising a criminal. I respectfully request that you print a retraction of your article supporting young Timothy and instead provide information on puppymills and dog rescue groups. Thank you.
People magazine has lost a great customer! I cannot beleive they would publish something so irresponsible as this.Dogs are not toys...they are LIVING ANIMALS..just like HUMANS!
As a proud owner of 3 Welsh Terrier rescues I am disappointed that People would promote this young man as a "Teen Titan". This is abuse in the truest form and should not be flaunted. I will no longer purchase People Magazine.
Is there not enough puppy mills. Breeders work so hard to produce good canine citizens. This boy is doing a diservice to the canine community. I am appauled that you would run such an article. For shame on your magazine.
Shirley Newby-Tate
Puppy Mills are a disgusting abuse of innocent lives that have no voice or choice of their own. Those people make me sick to my stomach. They hould all be outlawed.
This is sooo wrong. we have way to many unwanted puppies and dogs, that to promote this type of puppy selling and buying is horrifying. People Magazine should be promoting adoption rather than these 'accessories' that are treated like inanimate objects to be aquired. this does so much harm to the shelters and people involved in helping abandoned animals. i dont get how you can promote this, as it is just as bad as saying it is ok and acceptable for backyard breeders to be doing what they are doing. this is disgusting that making money from breeding animals till they die and selling the pupies is an ok thing to do.
I am absolutely horrified that People magazine would encourage this kind of irresponsibility! Thousands of dogs and cats (and puppies and kittens) die every day in shelters across the country. Why-so irresponsible people can make a buck or two and then get patted on the back by those who should know better! Please run an article detailing the puppymill and damage of buying a petstore or internet puppy.
This young man and his mother should be ashamed of themselves. All they are doing is encouraging puppymillers! I do rescue and we are overwhelmed with dogs from puppymillers. Take responsbility and stop this heartless business.
This young man is making thousands of dollars on yes, cute puppys, BUT what kind of people are adopting these puppys!!??? PUPPRMILLERS!! Most of these puppys will not be going to nice loving familys...they will be used for breeding purposes! This is sick and cruel business! How could People Magazine promote such disgusting money making tactics? People magazine should be promoting the importance of spaying and neutering! Look at how overpopulated shelters are. Thousands are euthanized everyday because they are from unwanted litters! Please stress the importance of spaying and neutering. Adopt from a shelter!! Millions of animals are looking for homes right now!!! What about them? This teenage boy needs to be PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!!!! How disgusting!
As a former Time Warner employee, I am saddened that People Magazine would fail to look deeper into this issue before publishing an article that glorifies indiscriminate breeding and wholesaling of pets. Perhaps a feature on celebrities who have done the sensible (and responsible) act of adopting pets from shelters could be showcased in a future issue of People. At minimum, help us educate the public so we can eliminate the problem of abandoned pets.
I work with rescue... and every time we see an article like this, or a movie like 101 dalmations, we end up with multiple dogs to rehome. If not take into rescue, they end up at the local pound or they get put down. This is NOT a responsible business... there are no home checks. They don't take back the dogs if they don't work in the home. The breeders are not known. The dogs are not temperament tested. I would be very happy to endorse a business of a "homecheck for pound puppies", but not an internet system of sales of live animals. I know all too well that those of us in rescue will end up trying to salvage many of these dogs.
This is disgusting, and People magazine should be ashamed to encourage such practices as selling dogs on the internet. I spend countless hours working with Chesapeake bay Retriever Relief & Rescue trying to find homes for dogs. People like this should be arrested, not glorified!
You need to witness the "miracle of death" and the fate of the dogs used to produce and produce and produce offspring for profit in these puppy mills if you are going to promote them. Why not promote responsible dedicated breeders instead of money hungry people who use the animals' misery to make money and are not concerned about the genetics, the problems of each breed and instead care only for the almighty dollar!
As a veterinarian, I see the effects of irresponsible breeding and cruel suffering endured by animals by those out to make a quick buck at the expense of innocent animals. This story is an outrage and this young entrepreneur needs to spend some time at his local humane organization to wake up to the sad reality of animal abuse.
It makes me sick! People has no regards to human life how could they possiably care about a puppy mill. His mom should be ashamed and put in a kennel with 10 other humans and forced to breed until she can no longer stand up.
People Magazine you should be ashamed! This "16 yro old entrepreneur should be censored, not celebrated! Selling puppies under any circumstances is tantamount to selling babies for profit. If you wouldn't feature a young "entrepreneur" who made pin money selling babies you shouldn't be featuring this little misguided future puppymiller! These are living, breathing, FEELING, beings...not inanimate commodities up for grabs or profits! Do the right thing! Show the ugly face of puppy mills and the people who profit by them (yes, including this 16 yr old who I am sure is unenlightened and clueless) and save lives instead of selling them!
Did you know that a large precentage of pet store dogs purchased are given up? 30% of the dogs in shelters are purebreds.
Do a story on puppymills and BYB's that are in it for the bucks.
