I am very lucky to be involved in a breed that has few rescues and has an excellent network to handle those that do come our way. But in the visits to the pounds and shelters to claim my charges, I see multitudes of the breeds this particular website claims to be providing good homes for. It's an interesting coincidence that the breeds that you see most in the shelters are the ones that these particular sorts of website are selling. These are the breeds that seem to turn an easy profit. These aren't car parts or computer software; these are living creatures. Their potential new owners need to have more qualifications for raising them then the fact that their check didn't bounce or their credit limit hasn't been reached.
please listen to these rescue people! they need your help. so do their "clients"...if they don't grip you heart with their stories, nothing will...thank you d.mack
I am disgusted by people who sell animals to make a profit... it is irresponsible, heartbreaking, and shameful. If People Magazine wishes to continue to be respected, it should publish more respectable stories... if anyone has earned the right to be recognized, it is the people who volunteer with animal rescue organizations. They definitely aren't making money, but they are far richer in spirit than anyone who makes a profit at the expense of animals!
What a great way to make money, creating more problem dogs for repsonsible people to take care of after they've been dumped! Cuddly puppy? I think not. There's nothing cuddly about the results of this kind of irresponsible breeding. Unfortuanately, we also have this kind of numbskull in Europe. It's time to stamp on this kind of thing HARD!What's his next bright idea, cutebaby.com? I bet that would go down a storm.
Get a real job its obvious you have no compassion for animals health and well being. To sell a dog to any Tom,Dick,or Harry---That has money ---without checking to see if the dogs gonna get a good life
I can't believe anyone in their right mind would find this an acceptable "business" He should be labelled "Puppy Mill Entrepreneur" to give him the correct title. I thought his mother would have known better.I feel sorry for the boy with such a lack of adult guidance in the rights & wrongs of the world.
Lose the stupid music on your site. Correct your bad grammar (keep going to school).
Oh,...and quit sending innocent dogs into homes in which you know nothing about. These dogs will mostly likes live miserable, tortured lives. God help you.
It is my hope that you will do an article on the horror of puppy mills. I work closely with the rescue groups and go to the shelters regularly. Looking into the faces of these beautiful animals, many purebreds knowing that they will soon be put to death if not adopted in a few days. The shelters are over crowded. We need to raise our awareness of responsible pet ownership.
PuppyMills should be outlawed nationwide! Thousands and thousands of dogs are put to sleep every year due to irresponsible breeding; the poor doggies don't have a choice. It's up to us humans to be responsible for our wonderful 4-legged friends. Stop the Puppy Mills, and shame on the teen and his mom for caring only about money.
I run Cornish and Devon Rex Rescue NW, Sphynx Too. It is hard work to breed and raise healthy cats. I am sick of breeders trying to make money and dumping the old or sick cats. These poor animals deserve much better. Please educate the public as to the downside of breeding.
Praise should not be given to anyone taking advantage of a living creature. People magazine should be ashamed! I live in Germany and request my husband to bring back People on business trips - I will no longer be buying People Magazine.
I am a hobby dog show exhibitor...I buy my stock from reputable breeders who KNOW about temperament and other genetics in dog breeding. These people who are in the business to MAKE money are ALL WRONG and are not helping the pet dog population. There are too many dogs in this world at this time that have not homes and need to be put to sleep just because there are too many. WHY would any reasonable person breed more JUST TO MAKE MONEY? The true breeders do NOT make money on their litters, make sure the genetics are correct before breeding, make sure both parents are high quality and healthy and are willing to take back any puppy that is returned to them, even if it is an OLD dog that an owner can no longer care for. Are these money breeders going to be as responsible and honest as the REAL breeders are? Stop PUPPY MILLS, there are enough of them at this time without advertising and telling people to start more!!!!!
This is a worthwhile cause. Your previous article created a need for redress and as a fair and responsible journalist you really must give the other side a chance to present their casae.
Please stop all this now, think of all the heartache and suffering this boy and his Mother will cause. There are far too many puppies being born.EDUCATE THE PEOPLE TO BE MORE RESPONSIBLE.Puppiesare not inannimate toys, they are flesh and blood, susceptible to joy and pain.EDUCATE THE PEOPLE NOW.
People who breed for profit are merely providing more badly bred animals into an already burgeoning population. This "entrepreneur" should have been the focus of a puppy mill article, not praised for irresponsibility.
This is absolutely horrid !!! How can a respectable magazine even consider making this teen-ager into a modern day enterprenour. We need to have equal time as rescue groups so that you can se both sides of this issue.
Directly as a result of this young man's actions dogs and puppies are living in the most inhumane conditions you could imagine. Their only escape is sale to people who have passed no litmus test for proper pet ownership. People Magazine personnel obviously did not think this article thru.
Please help us educate the American public about the disgrace of puppy mills. I purchased a dog from a puppy mill once, and was horrified at the conditions I witnessed. dozens of dogs in a small area, and most of them were sick with eye infections etc... and they were walking on piles of their own feces. The females are usually bred every season and are used as puppy-making machines. There were actually a couple of pomeranian studs with their vocal cords cut so their voices couldn't be heard. Advocating such "entrepreneurs" and who are involved in this type of "business" is unwise and irresponsible, and the public needs to be informed of the negative side of puppy mills. Please take this petition seriously. I am not a radical PETA supporter, I just love animals and happen to know plenty about puppy mills and the torment these animals suffer. Please help us educate as many people as possible about animal sufferings in puppy mills and advocate the desperate need for people to adopt shelter animals!! Thank you.
I have done rescue work for 15 years. Since January I have rescued 31 dogs from puppy mills and it upsets me that a magazine of People Magazines repute would acknowledge this type of behavior as being a good thing. You have just set rescue efforts back by years.
What a sad state of affaris when People magazine supports a puppy milll at it's worst. Pet dogs and cats should be placed in qualified homes by reputable professional breeders. What about an article about a young person who rescues animals or works to support unwanted pets?
John Fraser
How sad that you have chosen someone who is exploiting animals as your paragon of a young enterpreneur. I look forward to your featuring a youthful volunteer at an animal shelter to balance your report.
Since when is it acceptable to praise someone who is doing nothing more than making money at the expense of an animal? This person and his mother should spend just 1 day at a shelter and see the misery some of these animals have been through. Obviously the author of the article didn't do much research. How about printing a story about the people involoved in rescue and some of the horror stories they could tell?!
This is outrageous! Shouldn´t educated people know better than helping those that doesn´t have the brains to understand that they are doing a terrible thing, when they help millers with their disgusting "work"! Teach them about how to take care of pets, instead of this.
We have enough problems with puppy mills without promoting a juvenile in the business of making money by literally killing millions of animal in shelters all over the country.
Those of you at People Magazine should be ashamed of yourselves! By touting the "entrepenurialism" of a family that wantonly exploits animals is nothing less than reprehensible. You (and your own collective consciences) would do well provide your readers a story about the horrors such animals suffer at the hands of "entrepenuers" like the ones you boast of in your article. Maybe if you weren't so obsessed with what Britney Spears did this week, you could provide your readers with some worthwhile news about something called "Puppy Mills".
If legislation were passed that would ban the sales of dogs and cats in pet stores, the puppy mills would go out of business. Purebred pets should be purchased from reputable breeders who screen their buyers and offer health guarantees.
Lynne Thomas
People need to be educated about breeding, not encouring it. People magazine should print an apology for publishing that and the mother of the teenager should be ashamed of herself for allowing more unnecessary breeding of dogs to go on!
Timothy or his mother doesn't care whom the dogs go to.Or were he gets them.It all about the money.Shame on Timothy, and his mom. But how can this magazine print such crap.I for one with not buy your magazine again for my teenage daughter.
DISGUSTING absolutely disgusting that your magazine glorifies this puppymill operation under the guise of recognizing a young entrepreneur. People magazine ought to be honoring the young people and their parents who volunteer their time and support animal humane societies and rescue groups.
To actively support the placing of puppies into homes with no guarantee of the homes ability to care for the puppy in unconscionable! People magazine is known for sleeze, but this tops the cake.
