Please rethink this issue. Your magazine must be responsible and act appropriately. The young man you are promoting is acting without knowledge and irresponsibly. Allow rescue to tell its side of the story please and perhaps this young man will chose a different route.
As you probably are seeing by the number of emails, etc. that you are receiving, you have hit a nerve in the animal loving public. There is a lot of cruelty in this world, a great deal of it directed at our four legged companions. Puppy mills, various animal rescue organizations, dog fighting, and even many shelters are places that most people don't want to read about, let alone see. But they all exist and are windows into the souls of many human beings. I know that many people do not consider People Magazine a news magazine, but this is an article that can make a difference, not just in animals lives but in future generations of people. I don't want to hinder Timothy Hampson from trying to do good, but I want him and others to pursue their chosen path with as much information as possible. Please be part of the dissemination of the full picture not just a small tasty slice of a very big, often bad tasting pie.
Thanks
!
I'm appalled! While Timothy may not be old enough to understand and appreciate what he is doing, his mother should not be setting this example. A true entrepreneur would not be involved in such a venture.
While I applaud young entrepreneurs, promoting this website is an atrocity that adds to suffering of our most defenseless friends. I’m sure if People’s research department looks hard enough they will find a teen with a few porn sites making a small fortune. Why not go there too. Please use responsible reporting least we have more copy cats and more suffering
Honour a puppy miller I think not. Have you any idea how many unwanted dogs there are in countries. He should be given the Sour Lemon award. As one that works rescue, this is not an award that should be given lightly and especially to someone that is living of some *****'s body.
Please don't let this exploitation of our animals be lauded. "People" is such an honorable publication, that it is the beest opportunity to speak out for those who have no voice. DON'T let animals be sold to faceless people in undefined homes. It is the helpless creatures who pay for this reprehensible practice!
Marsha Robbins
This is just awful that you should put such an article in your magazine.
Isn't it enough that there are so many unwanted, neglected and abandoned
animals in this world already. To put it out for more teens to see is
incomprehensible. I don't understand your justification to print such an
article in your magazine. I will not be purchasing your magazine in the future.
My dog is a rescue and is the best thing I ever did. The mother in the article should be ashamed of herself. People should be more ashamed for publishing it!

Many, many good dog breeders, fanciers, enthusiats, exhibiters, rescuers, and lovers of dogs are working countless hours to stop the sale of dogs without concerns to where they will go, how they'll be used (or misused), and how they'll live. This young man needs to learn about why these efforts are being made, and needs to learn responsibility to the animals in his care. Perhaps if he saw some of the conditions to which these dogs go, he would then come to understand why what he is doing is wrong.
When will puppymill operators understand that these animals are not machines for producing dollars? Although written with a different goal in mind, this article is bad for the dogs that are expected to produce volumes of litters without their health in regard, plus, who knows what kind of homes these puppies are going to? At least professional breeders are particular about who receives their puppies, no matter what the price. I hope someday, this young man understands he has acquired his money based upon the lives of these little animals. Please be responsible and allow the other side to be heard through an article regarding the puppymills and rescue dogs by educating people.
Shame on People Magazine! All the publicity that has been in the media about the perils and horrors of puppy mills, and they go and publish and article condoning the practice!
Puppy mills are unspeakably cruel to animals. THese animals not only live under cruel conditions, but many are inbred and have medical and behavior problems. They often wind up in shelters and lead horrible lives.
It is sad that you would honor someone that just wants to make a buck and has no concern for the welfare of these poor animals. Tere are plenty of more deserving animals at the shelters. ADOPT!!!!
Buying a dog is not like buying a book or CD - something that can be done on-line. It takes a lot of work and research to find a good reputable breeder. Anyone who is willing to go on-line and blindly purchase a puppy without seeing it's living conditions or meeting the breeder blatantly shows how irresponsible they are. These people would never be able to properly handle the monumental responsibilities that come with a puppy.
This is SICK!! These people only overpopulate the world with dogs that are not bred properly or cared for properly. They need to get a REAL
job, not live off of innocent animals.
With all the dogs being put to sleep in shelters to highlight this child's business is totally irresponsible. Puppy mills are truly a blight on the American landscape. To prompt this business is to promote the death of thousands of unwanted animals. Please reconsider your actions and consider instead an article regarding the true nature of puppy mills in this country and the horrible living conditions that dogs are subject to live in for profit purposes only!!!!
Breeds are not responsible for the problems we are currently experiencing with agression and bad manners. PEOPLE are. This is exactly the type of behaviour that BREEDS bad dogs.
As a golden rescurer this is just what we fight every day. Some one who only sees money at the expense of the breeding and health of a living creature. Do not promote back yard breeders.
Just when you think conditions just might be improving for creatures on this planet you read something like this. Someone needs to enlighten this young man and his mother.
Honoring a puppy mill???? I'm upset. Someone who runs a puppy mill doesn't care about the dogs-and selling over the internet?? How cab you find out what kind of person this is over the internet and if they will truly care for the dog? There are way to many dogs out there-many are put to sleep needlessly. Breed carefully and sell to those who are qualified-MEET THEM IN PERSON!
Since when is a living, feeling companion animal a commodity? The thought of perpetuating the deaths of so many shelter dogs in need of homes, by breeding for profit, is horrifying and inhuman. I wish people would look deeper into their hearts than into their pockets.
We don't need puppymills, we have to many unwanted dogs already. Not only that, I've seen one and could not believe the conditions these poor dogs live under and how they are treated.
What a shame that People magazine would applaud the efforts of a young man perpetuating the inhumane pet mills, while ignoring the entrepreneurial efforts of a youth selling drugs or stolen merchandise (read sarcasm-dripping!).
As a former SPCA Board Member the focus of this article about Timothy Hampson is especially disturbing to me. This is just another puppy-mill with no compassion or regard for the life of the pets he and his mother are making money off of. PLEASE allow an educational article about the horrors of puppy mills and "entrepreneurs" such as Timothy Hampson and his mother.
You should have a little knowledge about a business that you start. It is quite obvious that this is not the case with this teenager and his mother. Take a look at a puppy mil, take a look at a shelter. See the faces of the animals that will be put to sleep because there are not enough homes, or they got sick, or they are just not wanted. This really upsets me.
Sales of pets should never be governed by greed and ignorance. Our animals deserve better care, being sold by breeders who CARE where they are going and offer to take them back if their new owners can't care for them. The dogs and cats in animal shelters are living testimony to what happens when dogs and cats are treated as disposable merchandise. You owe our companion animals an apology and the buying public an informed article!
