I have been a subscriber to People Magazine since its inception, but I am now thinking of cancelling my subscription after the article featuring the teen, Timothy Hampson, who sells dogs on the internet for his own financial gain at the expense of the animals. Please feature positive articles promoting responsible dog ownership rather than profit above all else and the welfare of helpless animals. The Timothy Hamspon article promotes the cruel puppymill business. Shame on you!!

Please provide your readers the OTHER side of the story. Those puppies that are oh, so cuddly, and just too cute are a FULL committment for 9-20 years. Many people don't realize this, they tire of the cute puppy and resent being "tied down" and drop it off at the shelter. Please educate your readers about the number of dogs that are PTS and are waiting in shelters for a second chance.

It may be admirable in a business sense to build a profitable business breeding dogs that are healthy and conform to breed standards. The best professional breeders have a great interest in supporting and maintaining the highest standards in their particular breed(s). It is a reprehensible practice to breed dogs and then "sell" them on the internet, placing them with in uninspected homes with people who may or may not be well matched with a particular breed. Those who overbreed their *****es with little thought for their physical and/or emotional health and then "sell" their offspring to people whom they know nothing of save their ability to pay a certain price are not "breeders" in the honorable sense. They are puppy millers and should find another line of "entrepreneurship"

We have rescued a puppy mill puppy and he has had a very hard life. This poor boy lived in a chicken wire cage, stacked one on top of the other, outdoors in the south. He had never had socialization, good food, his own toy or bowl. He is a living creature, and he is now recovering. How can People highlight those who engage in such a disgusting practice? To sell MAGAZINES! How can those who create MORE MILLS in good conscience add to this overwhelming problem for the sake of the almighty buck? Please, consider a compassionate story to highlight teen entrepreneurs. People magazine should be more responsible.

I have a pure bred dog that I rescued. Why? Because the petstore he was purchased from did nothing to prepare or screen his owners to determine if he was an appropriate choice for their family. He wasn't!! He is a wonderful dog but he needed someone able to deal with his high energy and creativity. Since adopting him, I've become involved with rescue and am continually saddened by the numbers of people who throw away their puppymill dog because they just didn't know what they were getting. People should be raising the awareness of the abuse of innocent creatures for the sole purpose of making money. Please consider an article about puppymills, the shelters, and what happens to "man's best friend" under these conditions.

Your article praising Timothy Hampson's success selling dogs over the internet from puppy mills is amazingly careless. Puppy mills are cruel; they breed the females as often as they can, keep them in overcrowded, dirty cages, separate the puppies too soon, and don't provide socialization for the dogs. They don't care if the puppies end up as pit bull bait or starved to death, tied up in someone's back yard. No one should encourage their growth by purchasing dogs from them. Please research and publish an article reporting the conditions and lack of government oversight at these puppy mills; perhaps when people realize how hurtful they are, they will avoid them. I have two collies who were badly neglected, adopted from a rescue group; too many good dogs are being destroyed due to over population. Even more are living miserable lives. Responsible breeders screen homes prior to placing puppies, and do not use sick dogs for breeding, unlike puppy mills. I look forward to your article on puppy mills - Mrs. Abbie Schaub, RN.
