You should now research puppy mills, poor breeding, rescue groups, shelters, etc... and you will see how an article like the one you published has offended so many people. Volunteer at a shelter so you can see how many dogs are put down every day for no reason other than there aren't enough homes for them all. Talk to rescue groups and see how many dogs they take in that are abused and neglected... THe least you could do in response to this ignorant article is bring attention to the millions of homeless pets our nation already has. THEY deserve it!
I am appalled that People magazine would sensationalize what this young man and his mother are doing. How about sensationalizing the plight of dogs in puppymills and shelters - or are you just another rag that will only tell one side of the story?
All these puppies are cute now but they will end up in rescue or shelters when they are adults. Want to obtain a 'designer dog'? Go to a shelter or rescue, we always have interesting mixes. For the cost of one of these pups you can get a rescue or shelter dog AND make a huge contribution to the rescue or shelter.
Disgusting. I rescued my dog from a puppy mill, then did all in my power to shut it down. My dog almost died to rpovide another few hundred dollars to someone who only cared about money, and not the breed she was perpetuating.
Please do not promote the sale of puppies as a successful business. Breeding dogs is a labor of love that is often highly unprofitable if done responsibly. They are not crops. We would appreciate an article highlighting the negative side of commercial breeding, as well as any information you can share with the public on adopting dogs that need homes. Thank you!
Ok,People Magazine, how about a reality story on puppy mills showing the horrors the poor dogs have to go through to make money for the low life creatures owning them,
Is People Magazine so desparate for advertising funds that it would stoop to accepting ads from a puppymill supporter? Barnes & Noble stopped a puppymill from using their website service. People Magazine should maintain similar marketing standards. If this continues, I see no reason to support this magazine by purchasing it.
I am really shocked @ People magazine publishing such! Now let's see a Huge feature on the Importance of SPAY/NEUTER, owner responsibility, shelter animals & the ungodly # of animals PTS daily!!
I think it's great that a teenager is interested in becoming an entrepreneur but not at the cost of innocent animals. There are too many animals out there that need a good home and would love to be adopted. All puppy mills should be shut down.
By featuring this in your magazine, you are promoting the breeding & selling of poor quality purbred dogs as well as mixed breeds, we as dedicated Show Breeders are trying to breed for the betterment of our own respected breeds & are having to deal with puppymills & poor quality Back Yard Breeders & by you spotlighting this teenager, you in turn are giving support to all the people that breed souly for profit with LITTLe or NO regard to the dogs them selfs, I think you should now feature a artical on the puppymills that breed & pump out these poor unfortunet puppies.
Has anyone on your staff ever visited a puppy mill? Dogs packed into spaces no decent animal should be made to live in. They have to eat/sleep/relieve themselves/and often time give birth in spaces barely large enough for them to turn around in. The 'breeding pair' have ruined feet from being on nothing but wire for their entire lives. Health problems are so rampant with these dogs a number of the puppies die before they even make it into the store. And those that die at the store... well, you never hear about that do you? I have nothing but pity for the poor fools that buy dogs from pet stores. Many (including my great grandmother) think they are rescuing the puppy, what they don't realize is they are further funding these monsters and setting themselves up for a lifetime of trouble with the dog. My grandmother's dog started seizing within a few weeks of her bringing the puppy home. He also had a nasty temperament for what is supposed to be a friendly little dog. Anyone who endorses a puppy mill should be crammed into a 4'x4'x4' cage and forced to live with no clean air or exercise, let alone toiletry priviledges.
There are no responsible breeders providing this teen with dogs. He can only get his dogs from puppy mills. Buying a puppy from his website only unsures the continued suffering of that puppy's parents. His health guarantee sounds good to those who are ignorant of the dangers of this type of purchase. I see a future in politics for this young man - with lots of corporate contributions.
Enough is Enough. Talk to my 17 year old who is tired of having so many foster dogs because of idiots like this. Get a Life and stop taking those of these precious animals.
I am disgusted, horrified and shocked that People magazine would print such an article commending this boy and his mother on such an evil and heartless act! I will never buy or read another People magazine until you write another article letting people know the pain and suffering that people like this self centered boy and his insensitive mother bring to these innocent, precious animals! Acts, as these are not acceptable to society! I concider it to be up there with "Dog fighting". How humane is THAT? I truely thought more of People magazine until I read this!
In today's society with inofrmation literally at your fingertips, it is appalling that a magazine as well respected as People could be so negligent. Dog's are not breeding machines and it is truly disgusting that People magzine would encourage this venture.
This is irresponsible "journalism" by People Magazine. This is not an entrepreneur to be applauded but an ignorant person out to make a buck off the suffering of innocent animals.
Shame on People Magazine. This young "entrepreneur" is being taught at a very early age how to take advatage of people. Shame on his parents (who I dont believe have any conscience) for teaching him this.
This is not a noteworthy venture.
This is an example of a living creatures being used to make the allmighty dollar.
I think that kids that get involved in rescuing animals deserve much more attention.
The child should know better.
The parent 7 People magazine MUST know better.
SHAME ON PEOPLE MAGAZINE!! And shame on this "child" who is promoting mills and exploiting puppies at such a young age!!! What have we to look forward to
The public needs to be educated about Puppy Mills. Please do an article on them and give the public an insight on the importance of doing research about dogs and breeders before they make a committment.
PEOPLE needs to show the ugly side of breeding and then let their viewer's decide if this is a good business for a child or anyone for that matter to start.
I am sorry to hear your magazine is promoting puppy mills. Shame on you. With the dog overpopulation in this country you should be educating the public about the dangers of buying from a mill!
I am apalled that your magazine is promoting a puppy mill! There is no money to be made in properly breeding and selling puppies. How do these people screen their dogs for health problems, or do they??
How can you possibly believe the exploitation of puppies can be called a 'good thing' for a teenager's business? How dare this activity be condoned or allowed, by either the local authorities or People Magazine, let along encouraged!!!! This 'Teen Titan' should be stopped! How about a realistic article about the puppy mills that supply these inocent dogs. I'm sure the readership would be shocked and saddened by what is found, of course that probably wouldn't sell. . .
I am very disturbed that a puppymiller would be featured in PEOPLE magazine! Instead I think they should be featuring rescues across the country and the MILLIONS of animals given away after they are no longer puppies (or kittens). Or maybe a story on the millions of breeder dogs euthanized after they can no longer produce pups. Or a story on the conditions of puppy mills and the horrid cages these dogs live in! DISGUSTING that someone is being praised for running such a place and contributing to an already HUGE problem!
SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE MAGAZINE!!!...How many puppymills have you visited?....go spend a day with the ones sitting in their cages waiting for liberation from hell..
Having rescued a pug that came from a puppy mill in Missouri, this is such a slap in the face that dedicate their lives helping innocent creatures in desparete need. But it is truly a slap in the face to those innocent puppies. I cannot wrap my head around why this "entrepreneur" was so highly praised when it is clear he has what I hope are misguided intentions.
This truly saddens me that People would promote what appears to be nothing short of a puppy mill. If Timothy Hampson was a breeder and enthusiast for ONE breed and one breed only and truly cared for the betterment of that breed I certainly would not have a problem with him selling his dogs. I use to enjoy reading People but it's apparent your goal is about the allmighty dollar in promoting such a disgraceful business. Shame on you!
How disgusting to promote this kind of business. Shame on you People magazine. Why don't you take a moment to think about these dogs and what will happen to them or the fact that this is contributing to puppy mill mentality. I will NOT purchase people magazine anymore.
Barbara Walters has called puppy mills "Canine Concentration Camps" and she was right on target! This kind of promotion, for a horrible societal illness, has no place in a publication like People Magazine. I am shocked that you would promote such a horror to the general public.
I was appalled when I read my People Magazine yesterday. There are so many children out there doing good deeds, why praise a boy who is greedy and earning money by selling dogs from puppy mills. He is a dog broker and that is just as disgusting as puppymillers themselves. Now the boy claims he wants to get into exotics?
I am sure People Magazine is aware of the numerous of homeless dogs that are there. I am also sure that People Magazine is aware that exotics are very hard to care for and require extensive research PRIOR to obtaining an exotic pet.
I can not believe that People Magazine could be so careless as to have commended this child and his greedy mother for doing this. Why couldn't you interview the boy who helps save pets instead?
People Magazine should probably stick to celebrities because that is all you seem to have a firm grasp on.
Next time please do not be so thoughtless. If you need to get an idea about how many dogs/cats/and other pets are available for adoption, please click on www.petfinder.com and view just a few of them. Also note, that not all shelters post their available pets and not all shelters post all of the pets available in that shelter. Also, maybe People Magazine should donate its time and some money to a shelter in order to have a firm understanding of the problem they are contributing to by praising this ignorant family.
I will be ending my subscription from here on out with People Magazine.
This is terrible! What are the editors and writers at People magazine thinking! This is puppy brokering. If these breeders did not have him peddling their pups maybe they would stop producing them!
I can not believe that People magazine would feature a business such as this. I have always loved this magazine, but if this is not corrected by People doind an article about the horrendous effects of puppy mills, I will never buy this magazine again.
I'm sure you didn't research about puppymills before doing this article in your magazine. But you could correct it by doing an article on puppymills and mistreatment of animals. That would help correct this article.
Suzy Payne
Please reveal the real and honest picture of puppy mills. Small pups should not leave their mother before 9-10 weeks of age, and the parents need to be totally health tested. Please educate young people and older people!
These types of breeders must be stopped! There are too many innocent lives being sacrificed for the almighty dollar. Please help save the lives of all innocent animals.
We wonder why PETA has such a strong stance against pets? I believe organizations such as the AKC need to step up to the plate and publicize the importance of promoting the ethical and apporopriate way of handling pets both from a breeders perspective to the individual pet owner. I think it is time that we start taking more effort to educate people as to what ethical and responsible handling of pets is about.
Being in rescue - we have enough problems without more puppy mill or puppy brokers adding to it. Shame on PEOPLE for allowing this article in their magazine.
