The following is a petition against proposed Breed Specific Legislation in the Manhattan, KS area. Responsible dog owners must unite to protect their ownership rights of dogs, and their ownership rights of all domestic species of animals. Banning a specific breed of dog could only be declared constitutional if there were scientific genetic proof that a specific breed of dog is dangerous. There is no scientific proof that any one breed of dog is more or less dangerous than another. The breed bans placed on Pit Bulls and other breeds are clearly unconstitutional, which is why 11 states in the United States that have passed laws making it illegal to declare a dog dangerous by breed. Breed-specific legislation is opposed by the American Kennel Club, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the National Animal Interest Alliance, National Animal Control Association, the ASPCA, the National Animal Interest Alliance, and a host of national animal welfare organizations that have studied the issue and recognize that targeting breeds simply does not work.
