I support this petition. I don't want my taxes going to a CBC that attempts to be clever and hip. I want a CBC that is informative, inspiring, and interesting.
I do not support this petition.
The CBC is a joke and should have all its funding cancelled.
The CBC is only serving their own interest and the interest of unions and other self interest groups.
The work stoppage that the CBC employees caused this year proved we can live without a state owned broadcaster.
The billion dollars a year that the socialist broadcaster looses each year would be put to better use in the form of tax cuts to middle income Canadians.
The CBC may have been necessary decades ago but in this day and age of hundreds of TV and radio stations the CBC is nothing more than a white elephant rot with union corruption which has lead to a serious case of bias.
Down with the CBC.
CBC's new programming choices make no sense at all. Attracting listeners with generic pop culture? Better to create intelligent programs than aural wallpaper.
Radio One and Two have a crucial part to play in making good Canadian art and music. Their new emphasis on American-style popular music is in direct contradiction with their first and fundamental obligations in (and to) Canada.
Freestyle and the National Playlist lack substance and detract from the calibre of programming for which the CBC is known. The CBC should strive to excel at its social and intellectual craft, not attempt mediocrity in an arena already overpopulated.
The CBC has been steadily going downhill since I was a child, but this is definitely the straw that could break the camel's back. A national broadcasting service isn't out to win customers, but rather to provide an objective source for news and culture that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The idea of using our tax money to support programming for dentists' offices is incomprehensible.
And, there is no point to having a CBC unless it is distinctively Canadian.
I support this petition.
The changes will not win a new "younger" audience for CBC Radio. It is only in presenting the "original" voices of Canada that they will succeed.
I support this petition.
I am more worried about Radio Two, however. It mostly does not manage to speak to me, a listener who cares deeply about all manner of music, and one who will turn the radio off rather than listen to commercial stations.
The crucial point is that even if CBC's "old" way of doing things was not as 'populist' as it might be, it was and could and should remain distinctive. What threatens all forms of life at present -- ecological, communities, crops and tastiness of foods, security of nations -- is homogenization. Without a sufficient range of diverse ideas, sounds, places to play, building shapes, tastes, smells... everyplace becomes reduced to a kind of nowhere place. The worth and insecurity of human lives will follow suit. Maintaining diverse programming, such as CBC Radio One has always done, is a part of that equation. KH
I support this petition. The dumbing down of CBC programming - not only on Radio 1, but on Newsworld as well - is a blatant violation of CBC mandate, and an ominous threat to Canadian cultural identity.
I support this petition and have been very concerned that CBC has chosen to slide down the slope of mediocrity by deciding to program material that is no better than wallpaper.
In fact, if this is an example of the decision making ability of CBC management, it would appear that no one in management is capable of making truly innovative decisions.
The least that CBC should be doing is airing more Canadian music content and even this simple action appears to be beyond the abilities of CBC management and staff.
My tax support of the CBC is being wasted. The CBC is becoming less and less distinctive and more and more bland. Why should I pay for this?
