I support this petition. I want good music on CBC regardless of the style - the petition doesn't say anything about wanting more classical music does it? I like classical and pop - I like any music as long as it's good, and I don't hear very much good music of any style on CBC lately, including classical (or atleast the same 5 good classical recordings over and over again) particularly on Freestyle (crap) which I've permanently dismissed.
I support this petition. What distinguishes CBC from any other trashy pops station if they can't indulge in some prgoramming that's a little out there?
I support this petition. The Liberals decimated the CBC but cutting funding. The CBC now is little more than just another commercial station. After listening for over 30 years, I have stopped completely. Other than Ideas and Anna-Maria's show in the morning, the rest is commercial pap.
I support this petition. I want hard news, in depth discussions of social issues or other interesting topics, Canadian content. We can't get these things on any other station. I listen to the radio much less now because of all the light material. Keep some if you must, but much much less of it. Thanks for reading.
I support this petition. Less inane banter and air-puffed music. I say Brent Bambury, all day every day. And while we're on the subject, why not start to program music with some guts to it? Pop, classical, blues, country, world, whatever - just start taking some chances with the artists and songs chosen, Canadian or not. And one more thing (rant rant rant) I swear if I hear one more Arcade Fire reference from any one on CBC, just to prove how "with it" they are, I'm gonna scream like a girl.
I support this petition.
Please bring back quality programing like Sad Goat.
As an artist who (used to)listens to CBC while I work,I miss the varity, diversity and quality.
Thank you
I support this petition. The dumbing down of CBC across the board, not just on CBC One, is discouraging and shameful. The army of Eric Friesens et al, voices with little musical/cultural knowledge behind them, makes a mockery of the CBC's mandate and insults its audience.
I support this petition. The CBC is particularly important at this period in Canada's history, where we need a truly Canadian voice in culture and news, as an antidote to the US hegemony.
I support this petition. You don't need to supply musak-wallpaper, nor dj's who laugh at each other's inane off-the-cuff chatty un-jokes [if there are two of them] or at their own jokes [if there's only one]or swallow the ends of their sentences in a sort of breathy gabble [a technique originated, I think, by Jurgen Gothe] and least of all do you need all that wrapped around the top-40.
Both Radios One and Two need to be distinctive -- different, that is, from the all-too-easily-obtainable pacifiers found everywhere else on the dial -- in an adult, Canadian, direction.
I support this petition. You must be mad to alter the nature of programming at the CBC. People tune in from around the world now, thanks to the internet, just to hear some other radio format than that heard at every other radio station. Don't be dumb. Keep the CBC for those who care to know in time, not for those who are too lazy or dumb themselves to give a damn.
Radio One's National Playlist can't even fulfill CBC mandate in Pop Music! Why does David Byrne of New York City get the theme song for this show? Are there no Canadian talents worthy of receiving royalties on a theme song for a "National" show? Let the commercial stations do top 40. A CBC administration that does not believe in the mandate of the CBC as defined by the Broadcast Act, should not be hired or appointed.
I support this petition. It is one of the most absurd programming changes I have ever heard of. Since CBC does not sell commercials , it is hardly necessary to attract audiences with commercial pap delivered by a couple of airheads. I have had to stop listening to CBC over the noon and early afternoon time periods. Luckily in Toronto we have JazzFM -- a worthy alternative.
The CBC, despite being 'publicly' funded, plays a unique and vital role in most of Canada. It is signficant entirely because it NEVER has to be background music and can instead focus on content and being an independent voice. There will always be taxophobes who want to end the CBC and tryign to compete with 'music at work' stations only gives them fuel. Radio 1 is an excellent source of original news and culture, not a replicator.
I heartily support this petition and am especially dismayed at the 'dumbing down' of CBC Radio. I listen to learn about music that is NOT played on the A lists of other stations. To hear poetry, short stories read on the radio, and to listen to intelligent hosts, not chatty banter.
I heartily endorse this petition, and urge the CBC to stop downgrading its cultural content. Don't try to compete with (or imitate) commercial radio. Rather, maintain the distinctive programming you have always been known for, but seem now to be foresaking.
I support this petition. I'm also disgusted with your repeated promotion of that book on rebuilding the right in Canada, and the "interview" with a Walmart exec. to plug the new expanded offerings there. You people are completely out of touch with your listeners. Smarten up or get off the air!!!!
I support this petition. I'm also disgusted at the programming directions the CBC appears to be going in--including the Republicanization of
viewpoint seen across a range of programs. Yech. so much for independent public radio and TV.
I support this petition. For me in particular... I really , really miss the roundup with Tasuro. He *made* my drives home with intelligent his interesting and broadcasts.
Public service is not about making money. Some things- especially in our "advanced" western societies must be provided. Public broadcast is one of them.
I support this petition. CBC is currently the only station in my area to offer airtime and insight to classical and new academic music and its airtime does not need to be compromised by music already played on a number of mainstream stations.
I support this petition only with regard to Freestyle. Within the format of the National Playlist I believe that the musical content is not in any danger of becoming devoid of Canadian content. In fact, NP is bringing Canadian music to CBC in excellent new ways. They are finally playing AC Newman, Final Fantasy, The Stars, Arcade Fire and so on. This is an improvement in my books. But the music on Freesyle is soul-suckingly bad, as is the program itself. I support the petition conditionally.
I support this petition.Freestyle has such innane and random disconnected content. The hosts have neither interest in real topics nor even in the topics that their script has them speaking about. I have stopped listening to afternoon radio on CBC for the first time in my life. What is happening and who is making these decisions? Human warmth and Canadian content have left the Freestyle time slot. I am hearing the same feelings from many of my friends who reflect a real range of ages (for example 30-70 years--so this change of yours isn't capturing anyone! Please re-think what you are doing and the direction you are taking. Canadians who listen to CBC want and deserve more. Thanks.
I support this petition. CBC Radio One used to be an integral companion to my existence. Recently, more often than not, I find myself snapping off my radio in disgust at the irrelevant content provided.
