Where, oh where has The Roundup gone? Why in the world was it replaced with the boring tastes-and-sounds-like everything-else Freestyle? I long to hear the diverse calls of other Canadians from across the country and right-next-door yet again. Give me the wonderful Canadian stories and sounds of Canada yet again. Please don't take away the sounds and thoughts of Canada. Bring back Sad Goat!!
Top 40 music is the only thing you can hear on the radio anymore. I don't believe that this is what the majority of people in canadian society would like to listen to. This music is forced on us by corporations who are just trying to play music that won't bother anyone. Well it bothers me, I would rather not hear any music then have to listen to the same soul less Phil Collins song for the hundreth time, while sitting in a dentist's chair or buying something at canadian tire. I as well as many other young adults find this elevator mainstream repetitive pablum just as offensive, if not more so then any ganster rap or heavy metal, baby boomers may find offensive. Please CBC don't let these corporations(fascists of the 21st century) control every station on the airwaves. It's the quality of listener that's important (people that listen to music because they enjoy it) not the quantity of listener's.(people that are forced to listen to music at the office or in the consummer world)
CBC management has taken yet another step towards the extinction of CBC by rushing into a music policy which is already being well served by commercial radio, and it is interesting to note that many of the commercial radio stations trying to attract a younger demographic are struggling in their marketplace.
What makes CBC thinki they can be successful? I'd be much happier if they would emulate other public bradcasters (NPR being a shining example) by broadcasting serious music of whatever genre - jazz, classical or anything else that will interest the established CBC audience.
We don't need "pimple music."
I support this petition. The people I know who listen to 'popular' music couldn't find Radio One on the dial if their life depended on it. I want information about Canada and the world. I'll play my own cds if I want music. Don't tamper with SUNDAY EDITION (Michael Enright)!!
I whole-heartedly support this petition. I listen to radio daily and the ONLY stations I listen to are CBC 1 and 2 (98% of the time), with occasional deviations to nearby American classical stations that also do not bombard my ears with incessant advertising/drivel.Metro Morning, The Current, As It Happens, Ideas, Dispatches, the Massey and other lecture series, Out Front, the Wednesday gardening program, Music for Awhile, Andrew Craig's program, Northern Lights, Choral Concert, Michael Enright's program etc. are all marvellous and interesting. To ensure that I do not listen to CBC ever again, please demote its programming immediately to what its cometitors resort to: pop muzak and advertising. We have a jewel in this country in the CBC (both in music and commentary): I do not understand where the push to make it more like all the others is coming from. The others are inferior!
I support this petition. Not only is there too much forgettable fluff being played, but even if I did want to hear this kind of music, CBC does a rotten job of presenting it - devoting huge amounts of airtime to blabbering endlessly about each tune as though it were some kind of masterpiece, fawning over the composers or performers as though each one was a genius on the order of Bach or Pavarotti. I should soon lose patience with this breathless teen-age adoration and switch to any of the many other stations which simply pump the stuff out straightforwardly, interrupted only by commercials which are, in the final analysis, no more offensive than the nonsense served up by your National Playlist hosts. Talking about this empty-head music does not make for good conversation.
I support this petition. And I'm sick of hearing that tired old defence from management, the one that attributes negative feedback to new shows to listeners' resistance to change. Most people welcome change, as long as it's good. The problem is that CBC management, programmers and producers haven't been willing to acknowledge that the stuff they're producing these days is bad -- really bad. I'm talking embarrassingly, cringe-inducingly bad. It's not just that it's "pop"; it's not even good pop. There's a certain craft involved even in producing good fluff and the CBC doesn't have the talent -- so stick to what you do well.
I support this petition.
French language programming is now so poor that francophones are listening to CBC in English; sadly, they are finding that choice equally disappointing.
I have heard complaints about CBC's declining quality in both official languages over the last two years. Why not try putting the quality back, before you lose your entire base of public support? I find it very hard to defend the CBC's existence given the current commercialized and lowest-common-denominator approach.
I support this petition.
I find less and less which interests me on CBC. The National Playlist makes me want to scream-- it's all crap. I have always tuned into CBC (since I was a teenager) so I DON'T have to listen to that garbage. You are systematically dismantling the only place left on the dial for people who want to THINK and be challeneged.
I support this petition 100% I cannot believe I am actually spending more time shutting off the radio than listening to the clap trap I am hearing there now. There is no alternative by going to CBC2 as we cannot get the signal. Another peeve, I have.
I support this petition. The Canadian national public broadcaster gets further and further from that every year. There is a lot wrong with this "essential service" that needs fixing. Funding is not the only answer to the problem - intelligence is another major factor.

I support this petition. Trying to attrack younger audiences with the dumb banter of Freestyle is a huge mistake. Provide substance and they will come to you in their 30s.
I support this petition. If I want to listen to pop music I have at least 50 stations from which to choose in the
Vancouver area plus the digital channels on my TV, plus satellite radio. I do not need the CBC to repeat what others are doing. It needs to provide an alternative to the pablum that most stations broadcast.
I support this petition. I switch off & listen to CDs after our local noon show finishes. The Moveable Mosh which kids right across the country felt was their programme - gone - Do you think those kids will ever be loyal CBC listeners. I doubt it. Junk CBC2 when we have always had classical music during the afternoon?? Repeat after repeat after repeat - Why bother to go on and on.
You have/had so many talented clever people at CBC, let them do what they do best, giving us what we want - and what the country deserves.
I support this petition. The CBC is trying to attract a broader audience, but in reality is turning away its loyal audience. I admit I didn't become a CBC fan until my mid 20's, but I haven't listened to any other station since. There are many stations that cater to a younger audince. Be patient. Isn't it better to have listeners who remain loyal for 60 years or more? Don't sacrifice the quality of CBC programming to get a few more younger listeners.
I support this petition. One of the best things about the CBC is the lack of commercials, but Radio One has recently managed to create program promos that sound very much like the fast-talking, high-pressure ads that for years have made me turn off commercial stations and return to the haven of sanity of the CBC. With characters like "Promo Girl", how long will the CBC feel like a haven of sanity?
Of course I support this petition. I need the voice of Canada, not pop music. NPR knows how to cater to their niche with informative programs. CBC must stick to its mandate.
I support this petition. I no longer listen to CBC Radio 1 between 2 and 4 pm. I do not listen to the national playlist. The only remaining national daytime program with significant content is "The Current". I listen to that and the Edmonton Regional broadcasts. CBC is being systematically neutered!
CBC tries too hard to be all things to all people. Why not try focussing on what they do better (and differently) than anyone else which is to broadcast programming that challenges our minds and promotes our national identities. If I wanted to listen to Top 40 crap I'd be tuned in to CHUM-FM. Now I have to turn off my friends on CBC radio for the afternoon. It just isn't worth listening to. I'd rather hear silence than either Freestyle or the National Playlist.
I support this petition.
It would be nice to tune into the CBC and find something worth listening to. Spend some of our money on research and generate some information.
I support this petition.
I would also like to see the maintenance of proper language on CBC radio. Lately, there has been a decided devolution of proper English in favour of what I call the 'headline' variety of spoken english. I have noticed this primarily on the shows originating locally, but the mid-afternoon hosts are guilty of this also. Things like sentances without subjects or verbs. Like headlines are. No modifying words. Or simply modifyers without nouns. Well, you get the picture...
CBC's vocation is not to win a popularity contest; CBC's vocation should be to ADD value and meet demands unmet by the other networks. Please don't wreck Radio Two as well.
I support this petition. I find myself listening to American public radio more and more often, especially since the recent changes to CBC. Whereas I rarely used to move the dial from CBC, I find now that I tune it in only at specific times of day - and NEVER in the afternoon.
I support this petition.
I can't believe a "Top Forty" of the entire century when I turn on CBC while I am preparing supper. What next? Chuckles the Clown reading the National! It's awful. a CBC girl ssks listeners to get in touch with "the Corpse" --- and I'm not surprised. It ie becoming a corpse...rapidly....
While I wasn't surprised by the recent format changes, I'm dismayed by the depths to which the CBC has sunk. Freestyle is the worst thing on the airwaves, including Top 40 commercial radio. Scripted, shallow, stilted, pseudo-banter. If you're going to talk all afternoon, say something.
I know the CBC wants to increase its listener base but seems to me this is a misguided way to do it- replicating what is available on commercial radio - dont want my tax $ to go to that...just keep building on the past ..there will always be new fans who will find it..please stop the dumbing down too
I support this petition. CBC is about the only radio I listen to other than PBS. Why in heavens name should I have to listen to what often is the same garbage as is on commercial stations.
