As a long-time listener to CBC radio, I have noticed the gradual changes taking place, to the programs. I guess loyalty doesn't count anymore, but my question has to be, why would CBC want to change to be just like all the other stations, when it has a great thing going just now. These youger people are going to get older in a few years - by which time, CBC will not be offering anything completely different. Guess these comments won't make any difference, but the absence of some of the excellent programs CBC is axing, will make me turn my radio off!
You are destroying the atmosphere of my morning. Along with the loss of the music you are taking away the hosts and their voices who move us into the day. Where else on the radio in Canada am I going to find classical music. You say you want to offer a multicultural flavour but you are airing tired overly familiar pop and elevator music instead of world or ethnic music.
I am sure the Million Dollars that it costs to keep the CBC Orchestra going can be found cutting through the list of CBC overpriced management and by illiminating some truly marginal radio shows.
I do not think that the CBC will attract more listeners with these changes. It will simply alienate its existing audience who will then have NO alternative to the trivial banter and music on local and commercial radio stations. CBC is a way that I keep in touch with serious issues and I enjoy the classical music.
PLease don't let the 'grey-suited bottem liners' turn our internationally acclaimed cultural heritage into an ersatz pop music clone. All of us who love the CBC must take action to prevent this by make our lobbying CBC executives and our parliament reps.
Some changes have been good but too much now popular culture shows, annoying and do not have the heart that cbc hosts used to have nor the connection thru Canada that the best ones had. A shame, are we to have popular music all day?UGH!
Radio One has been turning off its core listeners for some time now, particularly in its afternoon and late morning Saturday programming. It's time to return to quality programming with educated and informed hosts.
I live in a small francophone village in Quebec. CBC is my lifeline to the broader world. I can listen to pop music and water-cooler chat on any number of stations and choose not too. CBC 1 and 2 programmes challenge my thinking, or us too. Now I am turning the radio off more and more because I can not stand listening. Please reverse these programming decisions.
enough dumbing down of what was once excellent public radio. I want thoughtful intelligent radio...not more mindless chatter that the private sector does so well.
I feel very strongly about this, as it deprives those of us who do not enjoy the current barrage of noise which now comes from the only station I was happy to tune in to.
CBC is part of the glue that holds this country together. Perhaps that is why the powers that be would like to destroy it! We pay for it. Listen to us!
I'm see no transparency in this process as exercised by the public broadcaster. Were it not for the Globe and Russell Smith I would not have been aware of plans to continue the dismantling of one of our greatest entertainment and musical resources. If this continues I might change my mind about Tory policies and let your signal fade away to nothing.
The recent changes to Radio 1 and 2 are so bad that I occasionally find myself turning to the god awful crap on commercial radio. Q drives me crazy. It has no depth and leaves me with an empty feeling.
There are more than enough pop stations out there. The wide variety and different selection that CBC has is one of the reasons I listen. The repetitive pop on other stations is why I hardly ever turn on the radio.
You have tampered with the actual obligation of the corporation to provide a full roster of entertainment to listeners in all the country (to say nothing of listeners in adjoining US states).Your destruction of radio drama is a denigration of both writers and actors in some wrong-headed attempt to only serve a background function beyond newscasts. You should be ashamed.
We hear mainstream pop in every dentist office, shopping mall and hospital waiting room. There are so few stations now that offer interesting music. CJBC used to have exquisite programming, but now relies on classical warhorses and French pop music. NPR is tempting but the signal is weak. Where is Danielle Charbonneau? CBC two is so disappointingly watered down.
I completely agree with the sentiments expressed by this petition concerning the programming featured on "Freestyle", as well as the opinons expressed by those who have signed this petition expressing their thoughts on the recent programming changes made to CBC Radio Two. As can be seen from the comments made here, CBC Radio listeners are searching for a web site where comments can be made that will be seen by CBC Radio management. Unfortunately, there is no such site on the CBC radio web site. If you have comments to make concerning the recent programming changes made on CBC Radio Two, please see cbcradiotwoandme.blogspot . All posts that are not derogatory, defamatory and that do not use profanity will be posted and submitted to CBC Radio management as evidence of the great concern that Canadians have over the direction that their public broadcasting system is taking under the current management.
Given the lack of options that fans of classical music have on our airwaves, can't CBC understand that it makes commercial sense for them to continue to specialize in classical music rather than send us off to our CD's and records, resulting in the radio being turned off more often?
I am very, very tired of the "commercial radio style" that CBC Radio is trying to copy. There is more than enough of it every where. I pay taxes to be able to listen to thoughtful, intelligent, creative radio. The current management of CBC radioi seem more interested in using our public institution as a jumping off point for careers elsewhere in broadcasting. They should leave now and return the network to those whose priorities are simply excellence in the spoken workd and in music. CBC isn't hip and isn't supposed to be. It just needfs to be good. Stop the slide to mediocrity now!
